Merrill Garbus's late night TV debut, on Fallon last summer with the Roots at her back, was probably the 11th Best Late Night TV Performance of 2011 . Last night tUnE-yArDs brought the good stuff to Jimmy Kimmel, or should I say brought the business. Or, even better, "Bizness"! Merrill Garbus was the guest of choice last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! bringing two performances to the audience and the viewers at home. So much has changed. Merrill Garbus. Jimmy Kimmel. Bud Light banners. A year ago, few fans could have conjured up that image, but here we are in 2012 and an act like the tUnE-yArDs has gained quite the approbation. Good riddance. Last night, Garbus & Co. delivered one of 20112s best tracks , "Bizness", all to perfection: horns, syncopated beats, neon makeup, you got it. I'm surprised when she performs in a room this small that the room doesn't combust, or at least change colors or something. I mostly wanted to post this for any folks out there who have never seen how tUnE-yArDs operates in a live setting...pretty cool stuff. When Merrill Garbus (vocals and all kinds of shit), Nate Brenner (bass), and "other rad musicians that join them at times" get together, magic is sure to follow. I caught AA Bondy last night at the Parish in Austin. Bondy and his band played their new album, Believers in full and followed that with a handful of selections from American Hearts and When The Devil's Loose . Openers Gold Leaves were a nice surprise and would be a welcomed listen to fans of Fleet Foxes and My Morning Jacket. Spin interviews Bradford Cox.
