feature photo credit: Marc Vanocur A "rise in the road" connotes a challenge that needs to be met, and certainly a band that's been around for thirty-two years has seen its share of them: line-up changes, major label drops, staying vital through the public's changing tastes in music and of course, the alarming overall lack of interest in jazz. The [...]
Lorde "Swingin' Party" Lorde's cover of The Replacements' "Swingin' Party" is extremely minimalist – aside from some subtle percussion and a keyboard drone, it's basically a cappella. And though the sad guitar arpeggios are one of the best and most beautiful things about the original, the silence of Lorde's version is just as moving: The space where there would be a guitar solo is filled with nothing but vague nervous tension, which is exactly right for the sentiment of the song. Lorde's voice is gorgeous – technically lovely but effortlessly soulful, investing Paul Westerberg's neurotic, self-loathing, [...]

It's Tuesday, which means it's chart day! In the past few months some of the worlds biggest electronic acts like Daft Punk, Major Lazer and Disclosure have treated us to new material in album form. There has been new ep's from some old favorites, and some new ep's from new favorites. This week's chart isn’t going to be genre specific but it’s going to highlight some of my choice picks from the last couple of months. Motez - Call My Name Adelaide bro Motez is only a few weeks away from releasing [...]
Marky has unleashed this typically epic set of music on the free dl. Probably not often that one hears Tom Tom Club, T99 and 'Casino Royale' in the same set! See below. 1 / Jorge Ben /... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

"Improvisation is my biggest artform ... A loud life needs also a quiet part, but when the fire's on, the fire's on." A legend in his own time, a cultural leader and dark prince of the Techno underground, Sven Väth and his Cocoon parties metamorphosized Ibiza's musical landscape. With an uncompromising passion for his art, the self-proclaimed "vinyl dinosaur" sticks by his setup; with "two decks and a mixer" he has no need for high tech frills and will never tire of going to record stores. For [...]

Indie artists, we love you. You're totally the reason why either/or and websites like it exist: in amongst posts about the Foo Fighters or Radiohead, there is a metric truckload of musical gold from all the independent artists that have sent us songs over the years. Amanda Zelina, of the Coppertone, has a bit of a problem. Her catalogue of songs is currently stuck with a record label that she backed away from, after a less than wonderful contractual agreement finished. So, unless she forks over $20,000 to them, they'll own her work. That is total [...]
If you've been following us, you know that we're a fan of all types of music. We love hip hop, we love soul, we love folk, and we love EDM. When it comes down to it, we love just about anything, so long as it's good. For myself, I'm a huge fan of folk music. Throw on some Devendra Banhart or Angus Stone and I'm a happy camper. I also love to get down when the time comes. With that being said, I was admittedly a little confused by Avicii's uber controversial live performance. After the party vibe [...]

With his memorable features on both Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" imprinting his name at the top of various singles charts worldwide, it's looking like we've begun to enter another Year of Pharrell , an era in which releases in the coming months both big and small will be tapping his rejuvenated Midas Touch within their respective credits, more than eager to enjoy the potential chart-scaling benefits of whatever fascinatingly unique direction the super-producer/ artist is looking to steer the sound of 2013 Pop. For the Neptunes-ian [...]

There's probably a hundred and one reasons why Robyn's "Dancing On My Own" is a representative of pop perfection, but mainly the track rules in the way it so vividly illustrates the devastating grasping of finality in seeing with your eyes your ex moving on with another from across the dance floor. From the lyrics that bring forth striking visuals ("There's a big black sky over my town"; "Stilettos on broken bottles") and lump-in-throat-sparking emotional details ("Does she love you better than I can?"; "I'm in the corner...watching you kiss her/ Ohhh/ I'm right over here...why can't you [...]
I feared Mac Miller sudden abrupt talent increase was by treating Asher Roth like the Monstars did NBA players in Space Jam. Luckily, my suspensions were wrong and Asher has finally returns to remind that he hasn't dropped a sophomore album, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have rhymes to spin heads Jack Daniel style. His latest display if eloquent rappity rap-ness is " Treat Me Like Fire ", where Roth flows like a Hawaiian surfer during hide tide over Lion Babe' s well known single. R.Kelly in the name of love two step music. The Greenhouse Effect Vol. 2 is [...]

A trip home to Philly this past weekend has me in an Illadelph state of mind. Maybe it was all the “gritty montages” shown during the US Open telecasts. Or maybe it was the goosebumps I got after seeing The Doctor , the excellent and enlightening doc on Dr. J that debuted last week. Either way, I was balls deep in Philly nostalgia when I saw this story about Iverson’s latest caper. Ever since AI [...]
If you don't understand the cultural significance of the Kame house used in the Flatbush ZOMBiES artwork for " Palm Tree " i weep turtle tears for you. Back to the song, "Palm Tree" is a release from the ZOMBiES forthcoming sophomore mixtap e " BetterOffDEAD ". I love the elegance of the production, the loop sample echoing adds a wave of alluring druggy etherealness, a sound the Flatbush rappers have been tweaking and perfecting. Rap wise, the song is fairly unfocused, sporadic versus from the 3 rappers all approaching it with there very own insight and stream of consciousness. The hook is my favorite aspect of the [...]
WordSpit forthcoming project entitled "Wrath of the iLLes t" title allows us to foresee a project driven by revenge, and "Tough Love", the first single, is 100% pure released aggression. You can feel the early 902s Staten Island gruesomeness in the production, it's strolling down a dark Harlem alley at 1:00 am grimy, allowing Spit to attack brutally with punch lines that hit like hay-makers. Wordspit's wrath is coming and there will be no prisoners. The post WordSpit The ILLest - Tough Luck appeared first on TAPEDECK .
Hilariously embracing of the one role no man pride will accept is the subject of praise from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis . Brilliantly picking at the stereotypical idea of what a "Stay AT Home Dad" is, the opera watching, lasagna cooking, mini van driving, and of course the carpet munching to inspire wives bacon winning. It's witty and perfectly produced, easily a memorable father's day ode. Prepares to write the "Stay At Home Blogger" remix. Marquee Las Vegas has been a staple on the strip throughout the rise of EDM. Perfecting the day party, and revolutionizing the nightclub, they host a constant stream of larger than life names. This summer is no different as they sit in the center of it all with a massive lineup at based around the famed Electric Daisy Carnival. With Insomniac literally taking over the town this week, Pasqualle's camp has a plethora of club events, a dance music conference, and of course the festival massive. If your trying to get some sun before the big show make [...]

Jerome LOL produced a new track for the Sound Pelligrino compilation album. Formerly of the LOL Boys, Jerome is the hands down the most ecclectic producer in the WeDidIt Collective based in Los Angeles. Jerome samples some retro sounding vocals for his ardent and soulful track "Tell U." Jerome LOL - Tell U The post Stream: Jerome LOL - Tell U appeared first on Vibe To This .
