"I am heavily biased towards Irish artists, athletes, authors...I'll defend Enya and Martin O'Neill like they're family members!" The G-Man chats with the multi-talented Rachel Zeffira ahead of her upcoming Irish dates... Canadian composer, opera singer and now indie starlet, Rachel Zeffira has been busy since she was accidentally deported a few years back. The moronic mistake by English customs may have caused heartbreak at the time ( Zeffira was in London to sing soprano at a [...]

Win tickets to Rachel Zeffira in Cork... The best band in Ireland at this moment in time played a sell out album launch in Dublin's Unitarian Church and it was a spectacular gig consisting of amazing musicianship, friendly crowd banter and awesome visuals displayed high into the ceiling of the church. Friday's gig officially launched the band's debut album 'Making Trails'. Traditionally bands roll out aunts, uncles, distant cousins and anyone they passed on the street to their album launch gig but there was a genuine feeling that the 'Sold [...]
I made my mind up at 5pm. I didn't think there was any way I could make it to the Troubadour to see Pallbearer at 9pm then back to the church in Koreatown by 10:30 to see Chelsea. So I stayed at home and drank until it was time go. It was way more relaxing [...]
Last Friday, The Chapters performed their first headline Dublin gig in a long time with a really nice performance of new material in the Unitarian Church on St. Stephens Green, Dublin. The setting was perfect for a band looking to build a profile after a change of line-up and a new musical direction. The Unitarian Church provided a nice warm listening atmosphere for an audience hearing a full album of new songs for the first time. The new direction finds The Chapters slowing the tempo right down with a country folk feel and embedding varied [...]

Christian Fennesz is the artist I probably write most about on here. He is a true compost heap hero. He'll be playing Dublin tomorrow (October 20th) in the Unitarian Church at 7.30pm, where he will surely create sheets of grainy cubist music to fill the darkened air. Donal Dineen will provide the visuals, but your mind's eye will probably bring some visuals of its own (I always listen to Fennesz with my eyes closed: true story). Get there on the button to see the talented [...]

The Promise Ring at Irving Plaza in May ( more by Joe McCabe ) As mentioned , Riot Fest East (aka the one that happens in Philly) was just postponed to a TBA date. The reunited Promise Ring who played Bamboozle and a NYC show at Irving Plaza back in May, were scheduled to play day one of Riot Fest East. Instead they'll play their own Philly show at First Unitarian Church on July 19 , the same day they would've [...]
The venue for recent memorable gigs from the likes of Delorentos and Halves, the Unitarian Church on St Stephen's Green in Dublin is to pay host to Ham Sandwich next month. Following their stunning show at the Academy earlier in the year, the band will play a more low key, acoustic set on Saturday 16th. Tickets priced €13.50 are on sale from the WAV box office.
Here's one record I'm definitely going to pick up on Saturday for Record Store Day. Before Christmas, Halves played the Unitarian Church in Dublin. They recorded the gig and are releasing it on vinyl on Saturday. We've already had a video of the performance, 'Darling, You'll Meet Your Maker', and [Read more]

It impressed us as a venue for the recent John Vanderslice gig and now the Unitarian Church on Stephen's Green in Dublin is going to pay host to three more live events. Elevens kick things off with an EP launch show on November 11th, followed by Delorentos on 25th and Halves (pictured and surely a band born to play such a venue) with special guests Jennifer Evans and the 3epkano string section on December 9th.

Beat-boxing in church? There was a time when you’d get your ears reddened for that but as the sweet tones of Elaine Mai rang through the Unitarian Church on Dublin’s Stephen’s Green they only served to soothe. Mai is a young girl from Galway with a striking voice, accented and melodious; her songs are cute and in time they will match her potential. She normally performs a cover in her shows and upon deciding that ‘No Diggity’ mightn’t suit the serenity of the venue she opted for a gorgeous rendition of Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop’, the musical layers and [...]
