By Kenny McMurtrie April 02, 2013 From Dunedin (NZ) to Dunedin (UK), as was, Die!Die!Die! hit town to promote new album Harmony & bring it home to me that now's maybe the time to invest in some earplugs for gigs. This was a damn loud show. They perpetrate this sonic terrorism at breakneck speed, battering out such selections as 'Blinding' (from the Promises Promises album of 2007) with barely a gap for any light to get in between one song [...]
Yes that -> is a picture of Edinburgh in the warm sunshine. Yes, I am doing this just to irritate you. I didn't write this post last week, due to travelling back from Austin and so on, and unfortunately there happened to be loads on. This week, unfortunately, I am here and eager and ready... and there ain't all that much happening in Edinburgh that I can spot. Or that I personally happen to like the look of anyway. Unless of course I've missed something, which usually happens at least once per week - corrections and frustrations in [...]
Hello Cleveland! Are you guys ready to rock? Giving these a theme is quite fun, so here's another themed post for today. See if you can guess what it is. Orange Juice - Rip It Up Fun fact: this is the first Orange Juice song that I can remember hearing. Thanks, older brothers with good records! Peaches - Fuck the Pain Away May as well make the blog gloriously NSFW today. Prefab Sprout - [...]

It's quite busy this week, although perhaps not in the way you'd thing. Is today the day Jeebus was crucified, the day he was plonked in the cave, or the day he rather creepily rose from the dead? One of those anyway, because it's definitely Easter, although how rabbits and chocolate eggs relate to zombie hippies rising from the dead I have no idea. I suppose that's the best thing about your entire worldview being based on 'making shit up' - if you want chocolate eggs, then dammit you can have chocolate fucking eggs, balls to it if [...]
Is it just me or is the gig calendar around these parts taking ages to shudder back into life after Christmas? I know there have been good shows here and there, but most weeks I find myself looking at a list of one, rather than the more plentiful goodness we can usually count upon in Edinburgh. Ah well, Mrs. Toad's two new cats are capering about the house like loons, so I suppose they'll keep me entertained in the absence of significant musicfun. What's fucking happening in Edinburgh anyway? Neither the Liquid Room nor Cabaret Voltaire [...]
If you're already getting sick of all of this talk about albums of the year, then you might want to stay well away from this site for the next two weeks. Continuing on from last week, here's the second out of four scheduled Artists Albums of the Year. This is the bit where I get folk who've done interviews for me over the past two years to tell me a bit about what's been tickling their fancy in 2012, we even have one of our artists choosing an album by someone else who's writing about their favourite album - I [...]
Smalltown America Records From: Belfast, Northern Ireland Smalltown America is an independent record label based in Belfast, Northern Ireland who have been bringing an eclectic mix of artists to the attention of the wider world since 2001. They are a truly independent, and at times belligerent, label in the grand tradition of Postcard, Creation, Factory, Zoo, Cherry Red. Labels that sought out the new, the different, the exciting and the original and released their work with scarcely a thought to their commercial prospects. They are about [...]
Words by Will Where does a band name come from? It could be from anywhere or it could come from a moment of pure serendipity. Could it come from some childhood memory or a goofy reference or pop culture allusion? Just when you think all the good band names are taken (we are looking at you, T he Rural Alberta Advantage , and also at you, Yuck ), you encounter something completely and utterly unexpected. Again, I am not talking about Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (which is a fantastic [...]
I'll give you that this is a little bit abrasive, compared to the music I usually post about, but I still have a penchant for the heavier side of things. Unlike most bands in their area, Glaswegian group United Fruit are here to give you a swift kick to the teeth. The guitars are shredding and the vocals are reminiscent of the olden days of Trail of Dead , so you know we Austinites are going to have a liking for that. These kids have just released their new album, [...]
OK. So I have a confession to make. I am massively late to the party here. Fault Lines , debut album from Glaswegians United Fruit , dropped way back on May 30th. And as such I cannot write this review and pretend to be right at the cutting edge of modern music. However, I can and do write this review on the premise that someone might actually read it, and then listen to United Fruit , and then buy Fault Lines . [...]

Gig News: Tourty Fruity - United Fruit UK/France Tour
Will the tortured puns never end? No, probably not. Following a busy summer of gigging, including performances at T in the Park and King Tut's, we could forgive United Fruit for putting their feet up for a bit. Instead they've decided to head off on tour again for most of September. Admirable work ethic there gents. If you haven't heard United Fruit before then, well, why not? Debut album Fault Lines has been on pretty heavy rotation around here since it was released at the end of May, and has a pretty good chance [...]
