String Cheese Incident @ United Palace Theater - December 3 Photos : Jeremy Gordon Words : Brian Bavosa After four-and-a-half years away from the Big Apple, the String Cheese Incident finally returned to New York City for a two-night run uptown at the United Palace this past weekend. Following the formula of several bands in our scene over the past years, SCI took time off the road in recent years before regrouping for smaller runs and mini-tours as of late. As this weekend proved, and especially the Saturday [...]

You couldn't help but be surprised at the lack of guests over the first four nights of the Allman Brothers Band's annual March Madness run as previous runs at the Beacon featured a slew of sit-ins at nearly every show. Tonight, for night number five, the guest spots came back in a big way with guitarists James "Blood" Ulmer and Eric Krasno as well as keyboardist Rob Barraco all joining the band at various points during the show. Ulmer, who was the first electric guitarist in free jazz legend Ornette Coleman's band, sat in for Get Me [...]
The Allman Brothers Band March Madness run continued tonight at the United Palace where the band played their fourth of eight shows in Uptown Manhattan. Once again, the evening was guest-less as the only sit-ins on the run so far were Susan on Friday night and Bruce Katz on Saturday night. The band delivered another varied setlist that didn't rely on the big guns outside of a fierce Jessica that contained a nice jam on Will The Circle Be Unbroken We followed the action live thanks to Moogis and the quality continues to improve [...]
As torrential rain fell & hurricane strength winds howled outside, the Allman Brothers Band continued their annual March Madness run at the United Palace tonight in New York City. The Allmans dusted off a number of their big guns for the first time on the run including Whipping Post, Dreams & In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. The latter was played with Gregg Allman Band & Jaimoe's Jaaasz Band keyboardist Bruce Katz, who also sat in on The Sky is Crying. Katz, who was recently profiled for a Jambands.com feature , took over keyboard duties for Gregg [...]

As we've previously reported due to a scheduling conflict at the Beacon Theater, namely Cirque de Soleil being booked at the newly renovated theater for an lengthy run of shows through the end of the May, the question of where the Allman Brother Band would be playing come this March seemed to be on a lot of people's minds. Well the answer to that question was revealed as the legendary Southern-rock band will move things about 100+ blocks uptown to another one of the Manhattan's historic venues, the United Palace Theater. [...]

NEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 9, 2008 The United Palace seats 3,293 people. It is a grand theater that was originally built for movies and vaudeville shows. This is surprising considering the theater's aesthetic (majestic chandeliers, beautiful flower patterned carpets, and plush red seats), which gives off an orchestra/ballet type of atmosphere. It therefore goes without saying that seeing Beck and MGMT play at the ornate venue was quite an experience. MGMT took the stage exactly at eight o'clock. After a few songs, it became clear that a good amount of the show's attendees were there to [...]

Full post coming soon. Svefn-g-englar - Sigur Ros Inní mér syngur vitleysingur - Sigur Ros Gobbledigook - Sigur Rós

photos by Rebecca Smeyne Sigur Ros United Palace Theatre Wednesday, September 17 I'm convinced that Sigur Ros exist as one of the more weirder (American) success stories of the decade. They don't use English, or even a need to confine themselves within their native tongue, Icelandic. And if you try to pay attention to them live, like you would a regular band who uses words as vehicles for meaning, you might get lost—muddled up in sounds that could be choruses, or possibly not. Any band that [...]
