Recently, Rock it Out! Blog caught up with Unknown Mortal Orchestra frontman Ruban Nielson in a back alley in Chicago, Illinois. But this wasn't just any ol' alley; no, it was the one where infamous gangster John Dillinger was shot and killed back in 1934. Besides discussing the famous assassination, Ruban also shares his thoughts on how the band's music should be described, tells how they nabbed actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse to star in the video for "So Good At Being In Trouble" , and reveals what musicians he'd like to see remix their material. Unknown Mortal Orchestra released their psychedelic-r&b album II last month via Jagjaguwar. The last music video we got from UMO was for "So Good At Being In Trouble" and it had McLovin', so that was pretty cool! I'm not certain who directed this music video that we have (below, duh) for Unknown Mortal Orchestra's wonderful "Swim And Sleep (Like A Shark)". Whoever did, good job! There's all sorts of puppet nudity in this but it tells a very romantic, beautiful tale that is relate-able to any human being on planet earth. Or maybe not I don't [...]

Unknown Mortal Orchestra's video for "Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)" features some puppets doing some pretty wild things. The song is great, and even though the video features some odd subject manner, it somehow works with the song. Catch the video below.
So when I got the email about this, I thought "Hey, I think I already posted a video for this song! Am I crazy?!?!" Turns out I just posted the mp3 embedded inside a youtube video thus only making me partially crazy, but not for anything that has to do with this song and or video. I am crazy because of the voices in my head telling me how fancy a lady I am. BUT... whomever made this video IS crazy because of this video. It's a crazy video.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra have finally issued a video for their excellent single, "Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)", and yes - it's packed to the brim with puppet nudity, voyeur, and autoeroticism. Enjoy! "Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)" is the first single off the band's sophomore LP, II .
What makes the Unknown Mortal Orchestra so enjoyable to listen to is their ability to mix seemingly divergent styles together to arrive at a heady blend of hazy psychedelic-soul music, that's perfect for late-night listens and lazy Sunday mornings. Last Tuesday, the Portland, Oregon-based trio released their sophomore album, simply-titled II , via Jagjaguwar. UMO also dropped the music video for the record's lead single - So Good At Being In Trouble. The clip features Christopher Mintz-Plasse (aka McLovin) trying to rescue his girlfriend [...]

Next Wednesday, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Foxygen , will take the stage at the Great American Music Hall. And while everyone is abuzz about the two bands, it's worth taking note of the other band on the billing: Wampire. The Portland band signed to Polyvinyl, home to Unknown Mortal Orchestra and STRFKR, and a perfect fit for their reverb drenched and 80s rock nostalgia. In addition to making good music, the guys have a great sense of humor (see image above). Ok, I know what you're thinking: what's with the name? SF Critic [...]

Unknown Mortal Orchestra release video for "So Good At Being In Trouble". Unknown Mortal Orchestra understand that cults are bad, mmmkay. That's why they're using their new video for "So Good At Being In Trouble" from their sophomore album, II , as a public service announcement. [...]

Unknown Mortal Orchestra released their second LP II this week via Jagjaguwar. Danny Perez directed the video we have below for Unknown Mortal Orchestra's second single from II, "So Good At Being In Trouble". Before we move on to that, some things must be said. II is a quantum leap forward for UMO and deserves your money and attention. Front to back. It goes everywhere it ought to. Tinges of R&B and funk blend together with Ruban Nielson's oddball psych tendencies extremely well. Then, the video. Chris Mintz-McLovin-Plasse (DO U GET IT?) is the star [...]

Unknown Mortal Orchestra releases the video for one of the tracks off their album, II . Delving deeper into an experimental sound with elements from psychedelic rock, r&b, and hints of jazz the group presses onward with exciting momentum. The video for "So Good At Being In Trouble," dropped today so enjoy it before scooping up the album. You can scoop it here.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra know celebrities now. In the Danny Perez-directed clip for "So Good at Being in Trouble", Christopher Mintz-Plasse - aka, Superbad 's McLovin and Kick-Ass' Red Mist - plays an angry bat-wielding passerby in what appears to be vintage, 602s era Venice Beach. (Truth be told, however, that area always looks like Jim Morrison just hazily strolled off, so who knows.) Check out the clip and get psychedelic below. The band's new album, II , is currently available through Jagjaguwar (order a [...]

Unknown Mortal Orchestra waltzed on the national stage from anonymity in 2011 to release one of the year's most critically acclaimed albums. As Scott McDonald wrote for Aquarium Drunkard at the time, "every sound falls right out of the sky." In 2011, critics spent more time discussing the shroud of mystery that cloaked the NYC-based trio of Ruban Nielson, Jacob Portrait and Gregory Rogove than they did wrestling with the sounds that made the act so compelling. Those that addressed the album itself spoke mostly of its cohesive, hook-driven aesthetic and the band's effective use of distortion [...]
Good news on the Unknown Mortal Orchestra homefront. The band has signed to Jagjaguwar. And they're set to embark on a bour with Grizzly Bear, who just released their best album yet, according to Earbuddy's review of Shields . The band has shared a first taste from their [...]
Kody Nielson, aka Opossom and brother to Unknown Mortal Orchestra 's Ruben Nielson, has released a new video for his Opossom song "Fly". The song appears on the upcoming Opossom release Electric Hawaii. The video for "Fly" certainly follows the footsteps of UMO's quirkiness as it involves scientists, controllable androids, and a UFO. Watch [...]

What happens to reckless drop outs from Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters? Unknown Mortal Orchestra captures such fiends in their new video for "Nerve Damage" from last year's self-titled debut . Director Daniel Portrait clearly has a passion for purple, neon, and possibly static electricity, because it's all over this joint. Though, between the aquatic vocals, surfy guitar lines, and that hammering percussion, all of those ingredients work fashionably well. Check it out below for your morning mind drop.
Wednesdays are always a great day for a spooky video. That is because of science you know.

New visual from the Portland group.

Watch this clip for Unknown Mortal Orchestra's "Nerve Damage", directed by Kamp Grizzly, features skulls, upside-down peace signs, neon-colored veins, and glowing eyeballs. Unknown Mortal Orchestra are one of the most unique-but-familiar-yet-still- interesting-sounding acts that have come of that lo-fi wave. > UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA [FB] VIDEO | Unknown Mortal Orchestra -- Nerve Damage www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqfWtq C4dZk Posted by Celebrity Sex Tape.
