Stream: Fergus & Geronimo- Funky Was the State of Affairs On it's sophomore effort, Funky Was the State of Affairs , Fergus & Geronimo seem to pull out all the stops with a series of abrupt tracks, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and some weird spots of spoken word. I didn't think the duo could get any stranger after last year's "unlearn." , but I was wrong, very wrong. It's not necessarily a bad thing, though. The strangeness of artists like Zappa have always been a reference point, [...]
I've never quite been able to pinpoint Fergus & Geronimo. Upon first listen, I saw them as healthy additions to the world of garage, fuzzed out guitar bros from Texas. Unlearn though was some other beast altogether, the fuzz turned on it's head, a new, amalgamated blend of rock and pop and doo-wop, that took [...]

Formed in London last year, newcomers Cymbals have attracted something of a buzz which has built around their debut album, Unlearn . The trio's press says they wanted to "avoid the familiar routes ploughed by other bands" and this is certainly something they have succeeded in achieving when you listen to their debut album. Cymbals - Unlearn Opener 'Summer Jobs' is a snappy start. The guitar slices through some quick fire drumming. Synths kick in, the bass drum pounds [...]

Download: Fergus & Geronimo Daytrotter Session When Fergus & Geronimo dropped their debut LP earlier this year, it was a reason to let out a sign of relief. It was nice to start off the year with a band who didn't take themselves so seriously. F&G have a new Daytrotter session out. I didn't think it was possible, but it seems they found different ways to bring their outlandish personalities to a new level. Singing about movie sequels and sex with older women are just a few tricks of the [...]

Unlearn è l'album di debutto dei Cymbals, previsto per il prossimo maggio. Single Printed Name è il loro primo singolo. Enjoy. Cymbals > Single Printed Name

Phonies beware: Fergus & Geronimo are on Holden’s side, and they come armed with the powerful weapon of Rock N’Roll, wielded forcefully , as it should be. But the force of Jason Kelly (Geronimo) and Alex Savage’s (Fergus) full-length debut, “unlearn” , does not come from face-melting guitar riffs or head-banging drum solos – they use the term Rock N’Roll more in the social, “stick it to the man,” sense than in the strictly musical sense. The Denton, Texas duo instead draws their power from aiming past the superficial façade, straight to the core; they [...]
Baby, Don't You Cry Fergus & Geronimo have recently released their album Unlearn, which I've been listening to a lot over this past weekend. Absorbing the experimental pop infused music they put out in this album, there are elements of 502s doo wop, rollicking 602s and 702s punk, british invasion, tribal percussions, to say the least it's wide ranging, eclectic but also just a lot of fun. At first it may feel a bit jarring and strange because of all the stylistic changes, but it doesn't seem to effect the overall quality of the album. It's [...]
MP3s: Fergus & Geronimo- Baby Don't You Cry Fergus & Geronimo- Powerful Lovin' Interview w/F&G @130BPM -
I've been trying to suss out the sound of Hardly Art's recent signee Fergus & Geronimo for a while now. They've attacked the sort of lo-fi/garage sound in a similar way White Denim has. That is to say, with a torrent of activity which stretches their musical wings across a vast expanse of musical sounds. [...]
A new video from Fergus & Geronimo. The song is from their forthcoming album, Unlearn , which is set for release today on Hardly Art . Enjoy a few tracks from the Texas duo here and here .

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars Almost two years ago, I caught Fergus and Geronimo here in Austin; they were just visiting from Denton. Everything they did on stage was energetic and sharp. A few 73s came our way, and now the band have released their debut, Unlearn , for Hardly Art . After honing their chops, it seems like the band have finally landed on some consistency with their sound, and it's one that fits in with the [...]

The Texan duo Fergus & Geronimo are still at that stage where they're yet to completely define their sound, but after hearing the "Never Satisfied" / "Turning Blue" single from them earlier this year, I'm ready to listen to anything these guys put out, literally. Next year, they'll be dropping their debut album, Unlearn , on Hardly Art , and the band recently released a track from it: "Powerful Lovin'." Here, F&G maintain the lo-fi sound from their previous tracks, but bring it down a familiar road with [...]

You can't deny the buzz of a band, and right now we're stil supporting local Texas act Fergus and Geronimo . In preparation for their new record, Unlearn, which will be released by our pals over at Hardly Art on January 18th, just a two days after my birthday. This one's a little bit less post-rock jam, and a little more grab-your-lady-swing, though the vocals still have that throaty yelping quality. As of right now, expectations couldn't get any higher for this band's [...]
