Sole was one of my musical heros growing up. He is one of the most highly overlooked cats in the underground scene, but is truly brilliant. He is an artist that has moved around a lot, and found fans in many different cities, but still seems widely unknown. I am really glad I rediscovered Sole, and even more glad that I can share him with everyone.

Photograph of Pete and the Pirates by Tad Last week, I discovered that Tad Lancucki , a ubiquitous and much-loved regular of the London gig scene had sadly passed away. I can't remember the first time I spoke to Tad (although most likely it was at one of the half-dozen Broken Records sets we'd both attended), but I'd certainly seen him around at countless shows over the years, dependably occupying the front row of the Luminaire or Water Rats or any number of the city's smaller, more intimate venues. A [...]
Drake - So Far Gone [download] So much has been said about So Far Gone that there really isn't much left to be say. Few would fathom that a half-Jewish former actor from Canada would be the most buzzed about artist in hip-hop this year. Even fewer would believe that it was all because of a [...]

Colin Munroe hails from Toronto , Canada. In January of this year, he dropped this mixtape, Colin Munroe is The Unsung Hero , that had dope artists from the likes of Skyzoo , Wale , Black Milk and Drake on it. The man knows a thing or two about hip-hop, but his music leans more towards the pop genre with a heavy dose of hip-hop and electronic music. Here is a video for the second track from the mixtape. Go download it [...]
The eighth annual Ponderosa Stomp show, which aims to showcase the "unsung heroes of American music" and showcases, well, pretty much any type of music you could tie to its locale of New Orleans rece... Continue reading "Bobby Patterson and Waco's Classie Ballou To Play Ponderosa Stomp" >

Ok so when I first heard some tracks from this mixtape I thought, dope production and guest spots (Black Milk, Wale, Mickey Factz to name a few) but not so crazy about the indie-kid vocals. Sounded like some ex-emo boy trying to jump on the mixtape bandwagon courtesy of a hot producer. BUT when I found out that the 'indie kid' himself was responsible for a lot of the dope production, I had to give him props. And even though I would prefer a more soulful voice over this kind of production (call me stuck in a rut...i like what [...]

Colin Munroe is the Unsung Hero dropped today. This is the guy that put out "(I Want Those) Flashing Lights" over the Kanye beat. He's alright but I must be missing something, 'cause I don't see what other people are seeing in him. I don't think it's bad, I just haven't heard anything from him that's particularly good. If anyone can explain what they see in him to me, I'd love to hear it. Regardless, here are a few songs that were better than the others on Unsung Hero. At least this dude gets some good guest appearances. Stay [...]

EDITORS NOTE: Over the next few weeks I will be chronicling some of the bands that I like to refer to as unsung heroes of the Indie Rock world. Bands which are, by no definition, unsuccessful, just bands that don't get the amount of praise and/or recognition which they deserve. These columns will be lengthy, but I encourage you to read them in all of their self-serving glory in order to better know me as a music lover . The way that I love Centro-matic , South San Gabriel [...]
