After the release of Upper Air , I am pretty sure that anyone who has had a listening experience with Bowerbirds has fallen totally in love with the group. They create sweeping folk songs, carefully crafted and destined to delight listeners. You might have to wait until March 6th to hear the Clearing , the group's new record for Dead Oceans , but you can preview a track from the album right now. It's a really incredible track with [...]
Tweet Listen to and download an MP3 of the new Bowerbirds song "Tuck The Darkness In" , taken from their upcoming album "The Clearing" . North Carolina band Bowerbirds have announced that they're getting ready to release their third album "The Clearing" in the early months of 2012, and in doing so have given away the first taste of new music from [...]

6am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day. An old favorite here, children. "You may not believe but even we were scared at first..." The Bowerbirds :: In Our Talons [MP3] [...]
If your looking for that perfect song for your summer playlist, look no further than the hazy, laid back folk sounds of Northern Lights from the Bowerbirds . The song, which comes from the North Carolina based act's 2009 album Upper Air , now has a brand new gorgeously shot music video... Bowerbirds - Northern Lights
We all braved the cold winter night for a chance to catch Bowerbirds and Julie Doiron Saturday night. Luckily, the wintery weather seemed suitable for the music, and with Lone Stars in hand, we caught a solid set from the North Carolina crew. Follow the jump for the full review. Julie Doiron was pleasantly surprising. For some reason, she recalls a more raucous Kimya Dawson . Her lyrics are as simplistic, [...]

Today's song comes in from the Raleigh, North Carolina indie-folk (sometimes described as nu-folk) band Bowerbirds . Consisting of members Beth Tacular, Phil Moore, and Matt Damron, Bowerbirds have released 2 full-length LPs since their debut EP "Danger at Sea" in 2006. Ghost Life can be found on the band's most recent album Upper Air , released on July 7th of this year. The band is currently in the throws of a US tour that is scheduled to wrap up in Atlanta, Georgia on February 12th of next year; a full tour schedule can be found on the [...]

Bowerbirds are coming to Louisville's 930 Listening Room on Monday, November 16, 2009. If you recall, Backseat Sandbar was super excited when Bowerbirds were supposed to come to the 930 with Bon Iver back in August 2008 , but the show was canceled by Bon Iver when he was added to the Wilco tour. While last time around, the show would have been supporting the re-release of Hymns of a Dark Horse on Dead Oceans, but this time they're out for Upper Air (Dead [...]
Bowerbirds are the latest band (and arguably my favorite to date) to get p4k's Cemetery Gates treatment. The band plays a splendid 4-song set highlighting their newest album including my favorite "Northern Lights." Enjoy.

It's warming and charming and [...]
Bowerbirds - Northern Lights Early this past month Raleigh, North Carolina outfit Bowerbirds proudly released their latest record Upper Air . Being a recent discovery of mine, I don't know the evolution of the group, but it feels like they really push their sound on this recent album. Sure, their sound is not exactly edgy, but it is polished and brilliantly composed. Most notable is my favorite "Northern Lights" with its essential rhythm guitar and syncopated piano that build up throughout the song. Like many other tracks, this song delivers the [...]
So much of Bowerbirds' material hinges on their affection for extensions of nature. On their primary release, Hymns for a Dark Horse, Phil Moore's rich, versatile voice intertwined with a lover's tryst among the moss, and artillery against the winter winds. In delicate harmony with Beth Tacular on backup vocals, accordion and keys; they personified leopard frogs and crows.Their initial craft was

So the sun has finally decided to come out in Massachusetts, and it's about time. I glanced at my calendar today and discovered that it is in fact already mid-July (I'm still not entirely sure where June went), and that means we are over halfway done with 2009. In celebration here is a rough list of my 10 favorite records to be released to date. Have your own list? Feel free to post it as a comment. 1. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest [...]
A few years back the freak-folk scene seemed to be all the rage with acts like Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom and Sufjan Stevens helping to cultivate a new brand of "Cosmic American Music". With the former helping to pave the way, a new crop of acts - that includes Woods , Megafaun and Papercuts - are percolating to the surface that are worthy of your attention. Among those bands that are melding acid-drenched, sun-baked vocals with hazy, psychedelic acoustic music is the Raleigh, NC-based band Bowerbirds . [...]

So I'll be the first to admit that videos of artists performing in unconventional locations are growing a little, how you say, stale lately. With Take Away Shows , Black Cab Sessions , and about a hundred other guerrilla-style video sessions, the novelty of seeing popular artists playing in baseball fields and shopping malls has run its course. Regardless, there is just something right about the Bowerbirds performing outdoors. The band truly are children of nature, and their newest album Upper Air is just a further - and [...]

The Bowerbirds in Vienna with the wind blowing through the trees and water trickling from a fountain, performing the second song off their new album Upper Air for They Shoot Music .
New song by the trio performed solo style by Phil Moore. If you haven't already go out and buy Bowerbirds new album Upper Air that dropped today [really yesterday if you want to be a technical douchebag] on Dead Oceans . It's real nice. Take that from a blogger who blogged about them almost constantly earlier this year. Technorati Us

Bowerbirds [photo by Nick Helderman] I first wrote about Bowerbirds back in April , around the same time that it was announced that the Raleigh-based duo of Phil Moore and Beth Tacular were set to release a new album this summer. Titled Upper Air , the new record just hit stores today (July 7th) via Dead Oceans Records . And while I don't yet have a copy of the new album, I'm hoping that that should be remedied in the very near future. [...]

[MP3] Bowerbirds: "Beneath Your Tree" Stark favorites, the Bowerbirds , took to the Daytrotter studio with a raw forcefulness, offering three tracks from newest their record Upper Air which dropped today on Dead Oceans! Enjoy their session here , as it serves as a delicious cap off to what has been a technologically shitty, and extremely busy Tuesday.
