Why You Do This – A Musician's Take On Touring

Why You Do This – A Musician's Take On Touring . . . Click here to view the embedded video. The above video is Michael Dafferner's hour-long documentary Why You Do This . Dafferner is the vocalist of the Long Island math-metal band Car Bomb, and his film follows the band on three tours in the late aughties (2007, 2008, and 2009). Why You Do This originally came out in 2010; Dafferner posted it in its entirety to YouTube in December 2011. Why You Do This raises an uncomfortable [...]

Slow Southern Steel – Southern Fried Metal Documentary

Slow Southern Steel – Southern Fried Metal Documentary . . . Watching Slow Southern Steel as it was screened at Asheville, North Carolina's The Orange Peel a few nights ago, left me with a strange mix of satisfaction and a degree of skepticism. For those unaware, this is a documentary of the Southern metal scene; in particular it is an explanation through interviews and the odd sound clip of where that distinctive Southern Metal sound came from, why it sounded the way it did, and the rationale of the culture behind it. In short, this is a documentary about a regional sound, something [...]

IO Album Giveaway: Goatwhore's Blood For The Master

IO Album Giveaway: Goatwhore's Blood For The Master Blood, skulls and crucifixion have been major themes in metal for quite some time; however, I have never seen a band amp up the grim and create an album cover that shows the slitting of Jesus' wrists as the blood pours into a skull. (Not even Cannibal Corpse!) So imagine my surprise when this is the image that greets me on the front of Goatwhore 's new album Blood For The Master , to be released on Valentine's Day. Taking things to the next level of gruesome translates past the artwork on this album and pertains to the music as well. Relentless riffs, blackened thrash [...]

FUTURE ISLANDS – In Evening Air (2010)

Plus de la moitié des morceaux d' In Evening Air touchent au sublime. Il aurait été dommage que je ne rencontre pas cet album dans les bonnes conditions, et il aurait été encore plus dommage que je ne vous invite pas à l'écouter.

You can blame Fine Tune Friday on your circumstances

You can blame Fine Tune Friday on your circumstances Tennis, "Robin" find it on Young & Old (2012) Tennis is never going to win any awards for variety. They'll play their la la shit for you anytime, and you'll like it or...you won't. But their new album has a little bit more of what the French call production , and said production comes from Black Key Patrick Carney, and rounds the edges a bit more than on their debut, so it's a little easier to...y'know, actually tell the songs apart from each other. This [...]

Fan reviews of TOANWTS

Fan reviews of TOANWTS Just had to share some of these great fan reviews I've received for the new album. After all the real critics are the listeners: Sofia Talvik's mastery of the acoustic has never been more evident than in her latest album - The Owls Are Not What They Seem. Her fifth album, in which Sofia has 'gone back to basics' is a stunning display of her vocal prowess and lyrical talent... unpretentious, yet powerfully moving. I have had TOANWTS for only a few days now, [...]

Album: Abigail Williams – Becoming

Abigail Williams Becoming Candlelight Records 23 January 2012 by Andy Parker Abigail Williams is the sole brainchild of Ken Sorceron, a man who has purged and rebuilt his empire several times over in the search of his "true" sound. Becoming sees the band's creator and leader finally making some serious headway into [...]

Live Report: WITTR, Chelsea Wolfe, Harassor at Echoplex

Live Report: WITTR, Chelsea Wolfe, Harassor at Echoplex Without retreading what has already been beaten to death here , there , and everywhere else , Black Metal has come a long way. As time marches on we break down the changes into waves, then scenes. USBM, Cascadian Black Metal, Post-Black Metal-they're all outgrowths of what has come before and the way creativity continues to push artists and musicians endlessly forward. As the mainstream media gradually acknowledges Black Metal and its many-headed offspring, it is inevitable that the genre will bleed into other, more commercial styles. And vice-versa. Tonight's show at the Echoplex, in the Echo [...]

Night Manager- new 7″

Night Manager- new 7″ It's curtains for you Shadowy shoegaze dream-punk/pop band Night Manager released a perfectly-formed 73 via Japanese label Big Love two months back, and yesterday it became available worldwide via Rough Trade. The three-song release captures the essence of the Brooklyn-via-Paris-and-San-Fra ncisco band's succinct pop with echoey melodies and doo wop-style vocals aching with an on-off nonchalance. Coming across as a softer, day-dreamier Be Your Own Pet or a more complex Best Coast, Night Manager heaps layers of scuzzy guitar reverb over [...]

Brooke Annibale

Brooke Annibale Today's feature is one my favorite discoveries of the last few weeks. Brooke Annibale is an acoustic singer/songwriter from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. She took up the guitar at the age of 15 and began taking lessons, improving her skill and establishing her own style of playing. She eventually began writing her own songs. As a junior in high school, she released her first EP, "Go Unnoticed" to be sold at her shows and at the venues she'd played. At 17, she recorded her second album, the full-length "Memories in Melody" . Vocally, she has a smoky quality [...]

[TUP008] VA – Resurge One EP

[TUP008] VA – Resurge One EP Four newcomers to the netlabel in four original tracks on this new This Side Up release. Traveling from Greece to the United States and all the way back to Berlin, this transatlantic EP delivers prime house music. Thomey Bors, on his debut track release, provides the big, fast-paced opener Zarpa, a detroit influenced driving piece with a distinctive lead bassline, and hands it over to Synaptic Flow who delivers a loop based hypnotic dub tech number based on solid drums and a square bass. No Sense sings the Athens' Money Blues, a steady tech house tool with a big bassline [...]

X Factor Usa stagione 2: Fuori Nicole Scherzinger e Paula Abdul. Si cerca il cantante vip come giudice

X Factor Usa stagione 2: Fuori Nicole Scherzinger e Paula Abdul.

Album Preview: Cannibal Corpse – Torture

Album Preview: Cannibal Corpse – Torture . . . Cannibal Corpse were writing songs for their twelfth album last spring when guitarist Pat O'Brien got the call of a lifetime: come play for Slayer. O'Brien had written several songs for the upcoming album Torture , but his bandmates weren't about to hold him back. "It happened right in the middle of writing," drummer and founding member Paul Mazurkiewicz said recently. "The first two songs were Pat's songs. He has four songs on the record and got the call [from Slayer] in April. We were in the thick of writing, but we [...]

Chad VanGaalen/Xiu Xiu Split 12″

Chad VanGaalen/Xiu Xiu Split 12″ Pirates of the Weird and Wonderful The excitement of 9 new Chad VanGaalen tracks landing in my inbox is a little bit overwhelming, especially when it's delivered with news of a split 123 with the ever evolving and extremely weird Xiu Xiu. The 123 is the second release in a series of amazing collaborations being pedalled by German label The Altin Village & Mine Records. The first release came in March 2010, featuring the primal drone of Oneida and the [...]
