Between the music studies and the day job creating flower arrangements (for Valentine's Day, miss Valentine even held a flower bouquet stand at the Maison Kitsuné Paris boutique!), classically trained Alison Valentine crafts feminine laptop pop just like the delectable and tropical "Circles and Triangles" featured on the new Kitsuné AMERICA 2 compilation! We asked [...]

"I'll do anything twice." That's long been my personal motto. But as it turns out, not everything -- and not even once . 1. I'll never ride in a hot air balloon. For as long as I can remember, helicopters have been at the top of my list of ways not to travel, but I might now have a new No. 1 transportation don't. I'd never even seriously considered going up, up and away in a beautiful balloon until a couple of nights ago. Something about it always seemed so late 19th [...]
1:43 by Native Racket on Mixcloud I would like to publicly apologize for taking so long to put this up. It's just so great that I unfortunately decided to selfishly hoard this mix away from all your greedy virgin ears. With that being said, It's a little late for valentines day but its never too late for music that you love. This is a mix from my personal favorite MUSIC (not just house; don't be so narrow-minded) aficionados, [...]

If you like The Vaccines... even a little bit, then you should make a point to see them live. It's surprising that the band haven't gotten much US radio support, and like so many other succesful acts in the UK, their stateside ascendency hasn't happened nearly at the same rate. The Vaccines' recently performed for a sold-out crowd of 1,200 excited fans at the Henry Fonda Musicbox in Los Angeles on Thursday night this past Valentines Day. What the band has lacked in airplay, they clearly make up for with fans and sizzling live shows. The Vaccines [...]

The Magnetic Fields - No One Will Ever Love You I'm second choice with the dog even. Third, really. Rawles prefers either roommate over me. If we're alone in the apartment, he's affectionate. He'll burrow into my chest as I'm watching soccer, or prance around in excitement as I put on my shoes, or sleep in my bed, his chin resting on my stomach. But when someone else is around, the pecking order is clear. Sometimes, when we the humans are sitting on the couch watching Modern Family or something, [...]

Ricco (from Slowdjs.com ) has whipped up a buttery little mix for us that features some of the chilliest, laidback, R&B-meets-electronic jams. Inspired by the act of sex (actually), we encourage this mix to be played whilst getting down, before getting down, or that moment after you’ve gotten down and you’re trying to break that awkward silence, (which may ultimately lead to more getting down). Regardless of when played, we approve and hope you enjoy this very special mix. Check it out below. posted by @clarkbs

Whilst we're on the subject of Valentines Day, it looks like we forgot a present that was sent to us (aka everyone) from all around lovlies - THE XX. Whilst you were off smooching your partner or attempting to pick up at some terrible Valentines Day club night or even wallowing in self-pity. The xx were busy uploading a special video for all their beloved fans who would probably give up their date for one night alone with the British triplet. The video is a [...]

Joe writes: Go to Wikipedia to read the amazing story of Shadow writing of Remember (Walking In The Sand) which was the breakthrough single for The Shangri-La's and is also my favourite single of theirs. I also learnt from Wikipedia that Billy Joel played piano on the demo.

Hot off the presses! Ain't No Love just released their sophomore EP Tears of Joy on iTunes on Valentine's Day and this one definitely caught my attention. The song has elements of dreampop, 802s dance, rap, and a certain Linkin-Park-esque vibe at times. That's one spicy meat-a-ball! Anyways the video is set to release sometime during the week of February 18th, so keep them peepers popped. Like Ain't No Love on Facebook Follow Ain't No Love on SoundCloud

Today I've got rejection on my mind. Not so much outright rejection as romantic indifference from a person who is just not that into you. Or vice-versa: harboring romantic indifference for someone who doesn't quite make your heart go bang. I have friends who have been on both sides of this equation. I've been on both sides of this equation. When I'm on the wrong side (and I disagree with the school of philosophical thought that claims the only thing worse than not having what you want is having what you don't want -- it's [...]

Last night I had another Blanche Devereaux moment -- which, once again, was unexpected because of all The Golden Girls girls, I'm a lot more Dorothy Zbornak and Sophia Petrillo. Don't worry. It didn't involve peaches and cream or sex toys. Remember the Valentine's Day episode when Blanche unknowingly counseled a gay man on how to propose to his boyfriend? Well, last night I had the same experience in reverse. It began when I went to Pinocchio, the Italian restaurant down the road from my apartment in South Yarra, to celebrate the end [...]

New Zealand is the greatest country in the world, and their music is good enough to take the world by storm. @Peace are a personal favourite of mine. Tom Scott from Home Brew , which is part of the Young, Gifted and Broke collective, fronts this smooth piece of genius. @Peace released their second album, Girl Songs , on Valentine's Day, and what you see is what you get: peaceful, melancholy drops with true love flows. Sweet, but brutal, honesty is brought to our attention in the raw raps and open lyrics. Within the [...]

Today is a day of giving. No, it's not Thanksgiving and no it's not Christmas. It's Cupid's special day that only comes once a year on the 14th of the beautiful month of February, which can bring the most shy of lovers together or the most rambunctious partners side by side. It's that day of candy, chocolate and teddy bears; the day of sonnets, 4 line poems, and random acts of love and embarrassment. But, it's also the day that all of our favorite musicians decide "Wait, let me give something to my fans!" and the internet blows up with [...]
Let's take a stroll, you and I, down [my] memory lane. It's been exactly one year to the day since a fateful night that I would not hesitate to describe as "life-altering." Some of you who have been reading this website for a while will no doubt find this tale to be familiar, as it [...]

The xx @ ACL Live earlier this week ( more by Tim Griffin ) Whilst on tour in Texas , we decided to cover a song by a Texan. She is one of our favourite artists of all time, Beyoncé. This song has always meant a lot to us and was written with another artist we really admire, Frank Ocean. Happy Valentines day to you all. Lots of love, xx The xx Check out The xx's cover of I "Miss You," below. As mentioned, [...]
