Tonight we've got two awesome bands, Ra Ra Riot and Motel Motel, throwing record release parties in Brooklyn. Ra Ra Riot will be DJing alongside their buddies Vampire Weekend at Brooklyn Bowl, which is free and has some kind of Cabo Wabo tequila deal. Motel Motel is having their party over at Union Pool with DJ sets from Chairlift and Violens. That one costs $8, which is kind of a bummer. Link:
Ra Ra Riot's The Orchard is out today. This is their second LP on Barsuk Records, and as NPR's Stephen Thompson stated, "The result is a record that feels both big and personal — just the right recipe for a band looking to jump to arenas in the months and years to come." So, [...]

When Vampire Weekend producer, composer, songwriter, and sometimes vocalist Rostam Batmanglij remixed - under his remix moniker Boys Like Us - OK GO's "White Knuckles", he had only one thing in mind - to trick us into thinking this was a brand new Discovery track. Maybe it's the spine-breaking back breaks or the astute synths, but Batmanglij has done a terrific job spinning an admittedly mediocre track into a golden experimental indie pop number that made this guy earn for another Discovery album. And hell, now that both Vampire Weekend and Ra Ra Riot [...]

Ra Ra Riot's sophomore release, The Orchard , finds the Syracuse-based quintet growing from scrappy, chamber poppers to soft rock virtuosos. Their first record, 20082s The Rhumb Line , was loaded with would-be hits and served as the perfect compliment to Vampire Weekend's self-titled debut LP, and what The Orchard lacks in instantly memorable tracks, it makes up for with polish and assurance. "Boy" and "Too Dramatic" are arguably the finest tracks on the album, both upbeat, surprising, and immensely precise. From the synths on the back half [...]

Nice dubby remix of Vampire Weekend. There are a few more remixes of this song that your can find over at ChromeMusic . Vampire Weekend "White Sky" (Cecile-Remix) Another good remix floating around is the Ra Ra Riot Remix of 'Boy' by RAC. Ra Ra Riot 'Boy' (RAC Mix)

Here is the newest from Ra Ra Riot's forthcoming LP, The Orchard (which is a whole lot of fun, by the way), due out August 24 on Barsuk Records. Hold on to your frail indie hearts as I say this; but "Too Dramatic", a bouncy write-off of overtly dramatic girlfriends, sounds like it's influenced equally by the Dirty Projectors' pop-ier material and Vampire Weekend 's Rostam Batmanglij . Of course that's not really a far stretch is it? Ra Ra Riot's frontman Wes Miles and Vampire Weekend 's multi-instrumentalist and producer/composure joined forces [...]

Rebecca Zeller of Ra Ra Riot It was another busy week here at FP, debating coffeeshop soundtracks, seeing Grupo Fantasma and The Amazing Jew in New York and Jack Johnson in DC, and continuing to suffer from World Cup withdrawal . Meanwhile, this week saw new singles from Ra Ra Riot and Deerhunter. Both bands have albums on the way.Ra Ra Riot's new record The Orchard drops August 24; Deerhunter's Halcyon Digest comes out September 28. Ra Ra Riot, Boy [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive Barsuk For some bands, sharing a house can lead to constant battles over the smallest issues. Still, Ra Ra Riot singer Wes Miles prefers it to being on tour, especially when it comes to creativity. "It's actually a lot easier to do than the touring because there was a house," Miles tells Spinner. "If anybody wanted to work on something on [...]

Max Fishkin provides a second look at Tokyo Police Club's new album, Champ, to follow up our earlier interview of their keyboardist, Graham Wright. The album lives up to the high expectations Wright set forth in the interview (he claimed it was their "best record yet"), and the standouts make it easy to see why.

Ra Ra Riot have announced a few details about their forthcoming album. The band are set to release their latest effort, entitled ' The Orchard ', on August 24. The album, which is the follow-up to 2008's ' The Rhumb Line ', features 10 tracks including ' Boy ', ' Massachusetts ', and ' Kansai '. ' The Orchard ' was co-produced by the band and Andrew Maury with track mixing done by Death Cab For Cutie 's Chris Walla and Vampire Weekend 's Rostam Batmanglij . [...]
The Very Best are a deliciously odd trio. The band formed more than four years ago, after DJ Gods Johan Karlberg and Etienne Tron of Radioclit met Esau Mwamwaya after buying a bike at Mwamwaya's used furniture/junk store in East London. In 2008, the group released a mixtape, Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit are the Very [...]

If anyone out there is still reading/following, I apologize for the lack of posts. The past few months have been a gigantic ball of stress and calling them an emotional roller coaster would be an understatement. It was mostly due to school, but now that I've nailed down an internship for the summer (and it's FUNDED!), I'm a much happier person. But enough about me, here's what's been keeping me happy and what I'm looking forward to: The FOLK FESTIVAL . I never officially wrote a response. Well, it was BALLER. Even though Doc Watson couldn't make [...]

Filed under: News Rostam Batmanglij, keyboardist for chart-topping New York band Vampire Weekend , has confirmed to Out magazine that he's gay. Speaking to the publication, Batmaglij spoke about introducing homosexual perspectives into some of his songs, as evidenced by the 'Contra' track 'Diplomat's Son.' Batmanglij calls it "a six-minute dancehall song about a gay relationship," but his POV also informs 'I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend,' a song he penned for Discovery, his side project with Ra Ra Riot 's Wes Miles that he describes as [...]

Ra Ra Riot ’s singer Wes Miles and Vampire Weekend ’s keyboardist/guitarist/singer Rostam Batmanglij combined their indie rock/pop musical powers to create Discovery , a quasi-grungy electronic side project. Discovery’s “LP” came out over the summer and included, reportedly by coincidence, a cover of Michael Jackson ’s (ok, the Jackson5’s) “I want you back.” When the weird one died, Discovery boomed. That said, I think the attention is relatively well deserved. Their music fit the lingering heat of summer perfectly, and I continue to tap my toes to their beats amidst this thunder/lightening/rain [...]
