Yeah, I know...it's March. Presidents Day has passed and McDonalds is already selling Shamrock Shakes...a little late for the Best of 2009, but here we are. I never claimed to be one for timeliness, especially of late. For simplicity sake, the numbers associated with this list are just arbitrary...it's pretty hard to rank things objectively, but the following is what I liked best about the shitty year that was 2009: 1. Dananananakroyd - Hey Everyone! Cheeky band name aside, Hey Everyone! is an [...]

So I know this isn't exactly timely for the end of 2009, but after the jump, I'll rank and briefly discuss my Top 5 alubms from 2009; mostly because my list is almost completely different from BVaz's. I only am doing five because I feel like after my top five, things get muddled. Who is 6? Who is 10? Woods? Real Estate? Atlas Sound? Phoenix?! Are those albums even worth of a top 10 of the year? Not sure! The five I have listed here are all fantastic, though. One thing is for certain - loved me some chill albums this year. [...]
This year at Hidden Track, we concocted a little experiment for our year-end Best Albums of 2009 list. Instead of picking the old fashioned way - subjectively - we opted for something a little different: a collaborative, collective list that incorporates the opinions of everybody here at HT. To begin, we devised an all-encompassing list of around 100 nominees and populated it in a Google spreadsheet - essentially anything that anybody who writes for Hidden Track liked at all, made the list. Then we invited our crew of writers to independently vote on the [...]
Veremos [...]

It's gonna be weird writing 2010 in the top left hand corner of my lab book but I'll get over it. 2009 was a great year for music and is partly why I started this blog. Here (as promised) are my top albums of 2009. 11. Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster It took a while but Lady Gaga has a knack for a CHOON and she's a very talented lady. Fair enough she cribs from the best pop songwriters (ABBA, Ace Of Base WTF haha) but I really can't wait to [...]

GSL's Top Albums of 2009 revealed!

Our finest 20 records of the year are the ones that are closest to our collective hearts from a San Francisco band's debut to a Kosmische pile-up between Tangerine Dream, Sunno))) and proggy ambient techno to the return of some French Anglophiles, to our highest charting Irish albums, a band on their 13th release, an icy Swedish enigma and a slew of Brooklyn based bands. Albums of 2009: 75-51 | 50-41 | 40-31 | 30-21 | 20-1 [...]

CANT - Ghosts Don't know how I let this one slip by for so long. This is a glimpse at what shape the solo work of Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor is set to take: ethereal harmonies, immaculate production and a gorgeous sound perfect for Sunday evening. Not too different from GB, then. Can't wait to hear more of this. You can buy the track as a 73 with an unreleased Arthur Russel track on Taylor's Terrible records. Photo by christian.greller [...]

Here's an alternate version of "All We Ask," off of Grizzly Bear 's Veckatimest . It's a piano demo that was released as a bonus track on the Japanese version of the album, and it's pretty saucy. I hope you like it. Grizzly Bear — All We Ask (Piano Demo) Amazon / iTunes –Chris
The Warp debut by Glaswegian Ross Birchard is certainly one of the most interesting albums that 2009 has dropped in our collective laps. Butter is a beautifully chaotic swirl of influences: L.A. glitch-hop, smears of Warp's spacier back catalog, and at its weirdest there's charmed allusions to 1970's prog/experimental masters The Mahavishnu Orchestra. It's a wonderfully experimental affair, something far more worthy of the Warp branding than the label's current top seller Veckatimest . Trying to pick a song to feature here was a bit [...]
Directed by Allison Schulnik. There just isn't enough creepy claymation going around these days. The mutating faces freak me out the most. For more on Grizzly Bear, go to grizzly-bear.net. Also, check out this podcast to hear cuts from their latest LP, Veckatimest.

Grizzly Bear have premiered yet another music video of a track off their latest album, ' Veckatimest '. This time the band are releasing the video for " Ready, Able ". The claymation video was created by artist Allison Schulnik . ' Veckatimest ' is out now. Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear made a really interesting claymation-style video for "Ready, Able." By my count, that's the third official video from "Veckatimest," although there have been some cool fan-made videos, too. Check out more videos , including the fan-produced ones, on Grizzly Bear's Web site. Ready, Able - Grizzly Bear
Directed by Allison Schulnik , the latest Grizzly Bear video is as haunting and beautiful as any of the band's previous videos. "Ready, Able" is taken from Veckatimest , available now on Warp .
