"It took you guys 16 f**king years to get here. But that's ok, we're glad you're here," was Dave Grohl's greetings to all the fans who were experiencing their first Foo Fighters concert, on November 11 th , 2011, at the Verizon Center. There is perhaps only one adjectival phrase in the music world that can describe the scope of the Foo Fighters' show; of Springsteen proportions. The Foos hit the stage at 9 o'clock sharp, following impressive, if not slightly poorly amplified, opening sets by The Joy Formidable and Social Distortion (for you classic rock fans, Social Distortion closed [...]

Donned in a black button down, black pants, tangled locks, and blue Gibson, lead singer and guitarist for the Foo Fighters Dave Grohl confessed, "[this is] the first time I've sold out the arena in my hometown," to an at-capacity crowd last Friday at the Verizon Center —located just miles from the DC suburbs where he grew up (and where he notably recorded his Grammy-nominated album, The Colour and the Shape ). With a set longer than most major motion pictures (just under three hours… yes… three), and more energy than a Capitals vs. [...]
Last Thursday, I went down to Washington D.C. to see Lady Gaga on her tour, The Monster Ball. I've always had a real appreciation for what Lady Gaga does, from writing exceedingly catchy pop songs to crafting her appearance and shows like a piece of performance art, but seeing her live and then talking to [...]
God bless the Scissor Sisters for continuing to pump out awesome music after ten years. It was a twinge of saddness that I watched this band whom we have loved for years open for a girl a decade younger than them when it has always been my opinion that they should be selling out arenas. [...]

Scissor Sisters played a super safe opening set - perhaps gearing up for their March 7th sold-out date at 9:30 Club or perhaps due to strict Lady gaga management guidelines, who knows. At one point the band decreed "if you've never heard of us you're probably not gay or British...so, all of you gay Brits tell everyone what's up". After that they burst into "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" off of Ta-Dah . Their set was a nice hodgepodge of their three disc-spanning career. Personal favorites included "Take Your [...]

My review of Roger Waters performing The Wall live is up over at The City Paper today. Photogs were allowed to shoot up to "Another Brick in the Wall" so I did manage to get the plane and the scary teacher props. Waters also brought on a bunch of kids (a local children's choir?) to sing the aforementioned. The photo pit was right in front of the stage so it was tough to get more of the full-stage shots like I wanted, but I did manage a few. Additional photos can be [...]

1991. Not only was the last time Jane's Addiction and Nine Inch Nails shared the stage, but it was also the last time all four original (or most popular) members of JA toured together. This year marked the inaugural Lollapalooza tour, which was Jane's frontman Perry Farrell's design to send off his band in style. Fast-forward 18 years later… the ever-changing lineup finally returns in original form to front the NIN|JA tour not only to commemorate the band's return, but this time to send Nine Inch Nails off in style. Opening for both bands is Tom Morello (Rage Against the [...]
