In the UK spot selling Sony TV's, Alice Cooper shares his former love of tossing them out hotel room windows, noting it was easier to do in the '80s because "they bolt them to the wall now." He adds: "I once threw out my own TV. I thought I was in a hotel room." A song by the band Barcelona was used without permission in a short production by Vancouver documentarian Jon Rawlinson that went viral on YouTube with 911,000 plays and climbing. But instead of the calling their lawyers to sue for unauthorized use of their wonderfully textured original song "Please Don't Go", the band watched their iTunes sales climb and even did a short video (below) explaining their reaction and thanking the filmmaker. Watch But Don't Listen Popular internet meme "the keyboard cat" showed up in a video mashup that also includes the song "You Make My Dreams Come True". The song had been shipped off to oldies heaven until someone mixed a keyboard playing cat into the original Hall & Oates video. 350,000 YouTube views into it's resurection, WMG had a enough and forced a takedown. Who lost? WMG who lost any the chance to monetize new interest in the mothballed track.

ASCAP sent a collection letter to Jason Calacanis seeking payment for YouTube videos embedded on his Mahalo site. Based on what the group told Valleywag , many music bloggers should also be concerned: "ASCAP does not offer licenses to – or require licenses from – those who simply make their personal blogs available on purely noncommercial Web sites. Mahalo.com is a larger venture than simply a personal blog, and therefore ASCAP is engaged in discussions with Mr. Calacanis concerning the use of ASCAP members' music on the site." [...]

Halifax musician Dave Carroll went viral to protest the behavior of United Airlines and its treatment of his Taylor guitar. "United Breaks Guitars," which was posted on YouTube Monday has already exceeded 600,000 views. Carroll was flying with his band, saw a United crew member tossing their guitars while loading them into the plane and then spent a year fighting the airline to get them to replace his $3,500 broken beauty.
