Roe O vs Monk O - Extra Special Category In between the cracks of the James Lasts LP's (never the good ones) and Bunkington-Squigley Town Orchestra do Chopin records at your local charity shop, you can occasionally... occasionally... find something worth picking up and listening to. The great coming of the internet has meant that you're not going to find an original pressing of Black Monk Time for 49p, these tend to get swooped up by collectors and sold for proper money. However, there's still some gems to be found [...]

One of my favorite 70s Modern Soul Album. So pure, So sweet. Columbus Ohio Soul, from Norman Whiteside. His lone album, under the pseudonym Wee, is firmly ensconced in Innervisions-era Stevie Wonder, with nary a trace of his work as a writer for Bill Moss' Capsoul label a few years prior. Smooth, sexy, and synthy, You Can Fly On My Aeroplane is a peerless sprawling psychedelic soul concept album. The original nine song LP has been expanded to nineteen, including seven previously unreleased panty soakers. Lovers rejoice. WEE - I WANT TO [...]

Formed at a Chicago High School back in 1967 led by Patti Hamilton, the group was made up of Hamilton and her sister Rozena Petty and their friend Barbara Peterman. Hamilton was not only the trio's lead vocalist but also its main song writer and the force behind the group's success. PATTI & THE LOVELITES - WE'VE GOT THE REAL THING

2nd ep from kill laura, another belter. 12" released by klee in 1994? get.

second single from frog records, and i remember really rating this at the time, but now i'm struggling to get past the singer's voice. still, some nice elevate/slint style instrumentation. the drummer's next band was the wonderful ganger. 7" released by frog in 1994. get.

first and only 7" by shiva affect, featuring an alternative version of the title track to the one that appeared on the album. if you've never heard this band, then hopefully the info that the record was produced by graham sutton of bark psychosis should tell you all you need to know. 7" released by frog in 1994. get.

Sorry for delaying on the blog people. I've been really busy working on new projects, plus my Happy Hour "Haight & Soul" Fridays has been taking some of my spare time. I've noticed a large amount of traffic already this year, and I thank all of you who continue to read this blog. THANK YOU!!!!! If we've recently met this track goes out to you. Sorry I'm bad with names. This situation calls for some "Leon Ware" and the title says it all LEON WARE - WHAT YOUR NAME [...]

brilliant third (?) single from nottinghamshire "miner" mc pitman... 7" released by son records in 2003. get.

File under: why I love the internet; and it doesn't really get much better than this, does it? Our friends at Slicing Up Eyeballs have saved our Christmas by unearthing some pretty amazing unreleased demo tracks and instrumentals spanning the entire Smiths catalog. A Smiths die-hard ripped the vinyl and posted tracks and downloads to Morrissey-solo.com . You can also download it here . Also, check out streams of a few of the tracks after the jump. You'll be treated to a reggae-like early version of "Girlfriend In A Coma" and "There Is A [...]

I don't post enough reggae up here at all. This has been getting a hammering from me recently, I got it on this Greensleeves double vinyl comp . Junior Reid - Boom Shack-A-Lack [320 vinyl rip] The bassline is just killer, even sounds kind of boogie-funk-esque. I'll be bringing some reggae to Discotekken in the New Year. Keep it fresh an ting.

excellent first offering from cassette boy, a cheeky cut & paste job lampooning the melodrama surrounding the death of england's rose. 7" released by barry's bootlegs in 2000. get.

the internet barely remembers this band, which is a shame. mind you, i found a review i'd written years ago of a carter usm gig that told me i'd seen goty supporting, and i don't remember them either. hm. i had the first 2 girl of the year singles, and liked them both, but somehow managed to misplace them somewhere, possibly about the house, possibly in a skip. anyway, i got this (3rd?) one off ebay recently... 7" released by badlands in 1995. get.

the debut - and possibly only solo - release from want, an indie pop from trondheim, norway. also the first release on mykdroner, a 7" only label that embraced norway's noise and indie scenes beautifully. 7" released by mykedroner in 1996. get.
