This past sunday I headed over to the Virgin Mobile FreeFest at Merriweather Post Pavilion and proceeded to have a day full of great music, friends, and weather. First off it's amazing that Sir Richard Branson was able to put on a free festival for that many people. Sure he probably made out non-monetarily, and even monetarily if he was involved with concessions, but regardless of that everyone there was being entertained all day for free, which is pretty bad ass. The festival grounds themselves were small in comparison to the likes of uber-fests liks coachella [...]
The details for the 2009 Ontario edition of the Virgin Festival has been announced. The two day festival will take place August 29th and 30th.My first question is where the hell is Burl's Creek Park (off Hwy 11 in Oro apparently). That's the crappy news. The good news is the line-up is pretty solid. Day 1 will be headlined by Ben Harper while Nine Inch Nails close out Day 2.The rest of the
This year the (1 Day) Baltimore Virgin Mobile Festival will take place at Merriweather Post Pavilion on August 30th and will be FREE. In return they ask you to donate $5 for Youth Homelessness. The full lineup is: Blink 182, Weezer, Franz Ferdinand, Girl Talk, Jet, Mates of State, Public Enemy, Taking Back Sunday, The Bravery, The Hold Steady, The National, St. Vincent, WALE Dance Tent: Danny Howells, Holy F*ck, [...]
Not a real animal, but some dude from side stage rushed Liam and tackled him in the middle of a song! Security swarmed, Liam got some shots in, the band stopped and went off stage. 10 mins later, the band came back. No encore though. More on this tomorrow, I'm dead tired and I need by film festival sleep.
Chris: "I'm a Virgin Festival media pass virgin. Looking forward to that first time". I'll be walking around the festival asking that same question, can't wait to see what kind of video responses I get. Super pumped to check out this weekend's Virgin Festival in Toronto . 2 days, 3 stages, 1 DJ tent, a crapload of great bands and DJs and a slew of logos, endorsements, gadgets, booths, sunburns and stylish sunglasses. If you're going, you might find this handy ( map ). Bands I'm Looking Forward to seeing the most. [...]
Here's a look at what you should be attending this week...if you have good taste: Ra Ra Riot, Sept. 4th, The Horseshoe Syracuse, NY indie rockers bring their Arcade Fire sound to our fair city. The internet buzz around the band has been overwhelming. www.rarariot.com Virgin Festival, Sept. 6th & 7th, Toronto Island [...]

Last weekend, ( Jason and) I decided that Day 2 of Virgin Festival was worth my $90-something dollars, due to the amazing convergence of Andrew Bird, Martin Dosh, Zooey Deschanel, M. Ward, The Go! Team, The Black Keys, Iggy Pop and Bob Dylan at the same place. I'm not sure I'd do it again (Pitchfork is starting to get pretty high on my agenda for next summer), but it was still a good time. (photo courtesy of DaveGolden ) The day began with The Go! [...]

For hypem clickers, etc. you can get Part One here . (Reuters) After getting out of the incredibly squished South Stage (Lil' Wayne, don't be late for your own concert!) it was time to see Iggy Pop and the Stooges. Soon, I discovered: Iggy Pop is insane, and a total queen. Somehow, listening to his albums growing up, I never picked up on this. With lyrics like "shake appeal / is so hot and low / hot and low baby/ hot [...]

You all know of our anniversary shows Friday and Saturday night at IOTA. For those uninformed, check out here . If you must got elsewhere or just can't make it to our parties, here is what to check out. Another summer weekend, another festival. I sound like a broken record. Virgin Fest is at Pimlico this Saturday and Sunday featuring a wide array of acts. Saturday features Citizen Cope, Wilco, Bloc Party, Cat Power and numerous others. Sunday has the likes of Bob Dylan, Iggy and the [...]
Despite living less than a half an hour from Baltimore, I've never actually made it out to Virgin Fest. I know, it's pretty shameful, but when monetary funds are limited, what can I do. Anyhow, a bunch of really great bands will be there tomorrow and day after so you should check it out or watch some of the performances on youtube. I'm particularly excited about the variety of performances: Cat Power, Lupe Fiasco, CSS, Beastie Boys, She & Him, The Go! Team, Gogol Bordello, Rodryigo Y Gabriela, Bob Dylan , and plenty more.
There have been a bunch of additions to the Toronto Virgin Festival show September 6th and 7th on the Island, so I thought it was time to update you on the line-up: September 6th Foo Fighters (headline) Bloc Party The Kooks Spiritualized The Fratellis MGMT Against Me! Wintersleep The Constantines Shudder To Think The Midway State The Airborne Toxic Event [...]
