Tweet Click the image to enlarge it Today Listen Before You Buy turns two years old, which may not sound like that big of a deal (things turn two all the time), but considering that I never expected anyone to really give a shit about the site besides myself and my cat, it's pretty fucking huge. Last year on our first anniversary I made an annual report of sorts, laying out all the stats and numbers and [...]

Things are cooling off for the holidays and the music is getting interesting. The pickings seem slim upon first glance, perhaps, but prove to be quite bountiful when given the chance. For this we should be grateful. That's how we're supposed to feel this time of year, isn't it? This week gives us much reason to give thanks a few weeks early. The music never stops coming in from every neck of the woods, and what a blessing it is. -Winston Robbins Senior Staff Writer

Liz Harris, the Portland-based queen of ambient drift who records as Grouper, has teamed up with fellow PDX musician Ilyas Ahmed on a new project that they're calling Visiter. Together, they've recorded a new EP for Social Music's Record + Tape Club . Stream the dizzily pretty untitled opener below. Read More...
Noisy and epic, 'Visits' is a proper debut for the post-punk band Tammar. Read more » http://rpc.blogcatalog.com/
In an ambitious series of events that will continue through the rest of the summer, the mixed-bag event GenreBeast launches at the warehouse behind Nick and Eddie tonight with performers that span fr
My good friend thereisnogrey just blogged about a band close to Melon and my heart. Had to reblog: Division Day - "Reservoir" off Visitation

On an a sunny summer afternoon I met up with Ashkahn in the heart of Los Angeles where he lives and works in his cozy apartment that he just moved into. The prolific artist showed me plenty of his recent works, along with some new pieces that he has planned in the mix. We then walked down the street to Reform School , an incredibly charming store where Ashkahn is currently curating a pop up shop selling his artwork on pins, prints, pillows, pencils, and even thongs. Yes, thongs. After going through the store, we ended up [...]

MP3: :visited - Touch Your Heat Toyko's :visited must've loaded up West Hollywood on his virtual reality headset (red convertible: check!), starting out this new one floating in some Dam Funk stasis before letting loose with that wiggly, futuristic groove, bringing more to mind the commercially-minded (but retro) instrumental beats Matrix Metals made for LA Vampires to warp/mess with than the streamlined, skyling dwelling dreamwave of "Sunset Article" . bandcamp

Hur som helst, här kommer :visiteds senaste retro-funkiga skapelse - Touch your heat :visited - Touch your heat

Justin Bieber met with Japanese children whose lives have been devastated by an earthquake, tsunami and an ongoing nuclear crisis that has forced thousands of families from their homes. In Japan for several concerts, the 17-year-old singer spoke briefly with nearly a dozen kids. Justin walked into the room with the children and squeezed onto a couch with them. The girls and boys, all representatives of some of the hardest-hit communities in northeastern Japan, shyly peered at Bieber as [...]

Dayuuuummmmm. One year, eh? When I started the site I initially had a much broader and further reaching plan for it (which is being worked on by myself and my resourceful writers and I'll reveal to you all very soon), something that was nothing like how the site is now (a cesspool for sarcasm and snide comments). I bought the domain name back in late 2007/early 2008 and putzed around with it, first off playing with Joomla and Seeqpod (anyone remember that?), then letting it sit and then as it was about to expire a buddy (shoutout to [...]

:visited - Sunset Article ( mp3 )

For this festive edition of the Pingcast we emailed ourselves to Tokyo for a Japanese music special. It's called Winter In Japan (the name took us a while). We put together a mix of our favourite new acts and got our buddy Tiger Reid in as special guest host. Tiger will be presenting her own radio show on Tokyo-based pirate radio station, Vincent Radio this Boxing Day. As well as working for awesome record label Hostess Entertainment , Tiger contributes to Monchicon and runs the amazing Tora Tora Bura Bura . You can download [...]
