MTV VMA Awards @ Barclays Center (08/25/13) In case you hadn't heard , MTV is holding the 2013 Video Music Awards (VMAs) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on August 25 . While last week’s MTV Video Music Awards saw a significant drop in television viewers compared to last year’s (6.1 million vs. 12.4 million – due largely to the Democratic National Convention taking place the same night), the awards were the top social media event of the year according research company Trendrr , seeing more than triple the Internet conversation as last year’s awards. It's less a surprise that they still do the VMAs, as that there's an MTV any more. Do they even show pop videos on the channel any more? Aren't the categories impossible to judge because you'd ask an MTV viewer what they think of a video, and they'll just go "who... is... video... is... it... Snooki's... baby?" Even though MTV sort of lost it's music mojo, there are still videos being played early in the morning and each year they continue their award show, or the VMA s as it is called. Yet, the VMA 's have really gotten weaker and weaker over the years, but it's okay. Anyway, the highlight performance of the night was Frank Ocean , who did a stripped down version of his hit, "Thinkin Bout You." It's that time of the year again and stars are currently arriving on the red carpet at the Los Angeles Staples Center for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. Expectations were high for Frank Ocean 's debut performance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards Thursday night (Sep. 6). And the breakout R&B star exceeded those expectations with an intimate and beautifully art-directed performance of his Channel Orange lead-off track, "Thinkin' Bout You". Behind tall grass and before a starry, moonlit backdrop, Ocean pivoted into his falsetto for the song's heartsick lyrics as a guitarist offered the simplest accompaniment in shadow. The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards took place tonight in Los Angeles, and featured performances from Frank Ocean , Green Day , and Rihanna with ASAP Rocky. As "Where Have You Been" fades from the charts, Rihanna & Co. moves onto single number five, the Bangladesh -produced "Cockiness (I Love It.)" Rihanna enlists "A$ap Rocky" for an opening verse to the exotic and bass-heavy track. We like Rocky but his verse isn't all that necessary but I guess for the "male" appeal, it works.
