Video of the Moment #163: The Moog

The Moog are an indie rock quintet from Budapest, Hungary. And yes, like their name suggests, their singer/keyboardist Tonyo Szabo plays a Moog. How they came upon the instrument: it was given to them by the good people of Moog Music , the folks who make those fancy synthesisers; they said the band could use their name as long as they always precede their name with 'the'. (Apparently the band's name is homage to a bar they frequented when they were younger. Bless. ) The band has the [...]

Video of the Moment #116: Donora

Click here to view the embedded video. Donora - I Think I Like You I hadn't heard of Donora before I checked out this video. It's simple, kinda twee and a lot of fun. After checking out the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania band I think I may have fallen in love with them a tiny bit - they have a cute frontwoman, great tunes and a sense of fun that so many bands seem to forget about these days. Watch this and enjoy the last [...]

Video of the Moment #104: Jack Penate

I might as well admit it to the world: I'm a sucker for a well-written pop ballad. (Maybe this has something to do with my two X chromosomes?) But it was quite a shock to me that Jack Penate , the London soul singer who earlier this year brought us the decidedly tropical-themed 'Tonight's Today' and the dance-poppy 'Be the One', should come along with a tear-jerker of a tune to win my heart. Filmed in the Jordanian desert solely on a Super 8 camera while Penate was on holiday, the [...]

Video of the moment#102: Golden Silvers

Hot on the heels of their headlining spot on the NME Radar Tour this September and October , Golden Silvers are back with a new single, 'Please Venus', and a video to go with it. It's no 'True Romance': this one is black-and-white themed, but it's not without its moments of colour and humour. And the " bah bah bah "s will get into your head. The 'Please Venus' single drops in the UK on 31 August. Click here to view [...]

Video of the moment #101: The Airborne Toxic Event

Click here to view the embedded video. The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime After Midnight Atmospheric SoCal pop rockers the Airborne Toxic Event are coming back to the UK in November . But you may not yet have seen the music video for the paean to lost love, "Sometime After Midnight", which involves singer/guitarist Mikel Jollett getting his angst on in what appears to be a Los Angeles flat while having flashbacks of his ex, and his bandmates are there too, [...]

Video of the Day #100: The Doves – There Goes The Fear

Click here to view the embedded video. The Doves - There Goes The Fear 100 Videos of the Day. Wow. So, what would be a fitting "big 1003 then? Well, I've dug up an oldie, the one that started it all. Doves' There Goes The Fear, after which I named this blog about 2 years ago. Yes, the quality isn't fabulous, but watch and enjoy a great song by a great band. Here's to the next 100 videos.

Video of the Day #99: Arctic Monkeys

Click here to view the embedded video. Arctic Monkeys - Crying Lightning ( read Jess' review ) The lads from Sheffield are back with a dark new sound. The music makes you feel like lumbering back and forth with a mug of stout and drunk enough to sing a sea shanty, so how appropriate that the boys find themselves on...a rickety old boat.

Video of the Day #98: Imogen Heap

Click here to view the embedded video. Imogen Heap - Canvas Ahh, Imogen Heap. The toast of the digital world, innovative and with great tunes to boot. I first came across her on the soundtrack of Garden State (possibly one of my favourite films ever), and am super excited about her forthcoming new album, Ellipse , which is out in two weeks time. This is the video for "Canvas", which is one of the tracks on the new [...]

Video of the Day #97: The XX

Click here to view the embedded video. The XX - Basic Space I've only come across this great London four piece a few days ago, having spotted their name seemingly coming up everywhere . And boy am I glad I did - just like most of the blogosphere, I'm in love with their hazy, spaced out tunes that owe as much to The Cure as they do to some R&B legends. This video fits the mood perfectly of [...]

Video of the Day #96: The Gossip

Click here to view the embedded video. The Gossip - Love Long Distance I didn't think that the Gossip's new tracks could ever live up to the genius of their breakthrough "Standing in the Way of Control", however it seems I was wrong - this great track has a bit of tongue in cheek feel to it, fun and funky and sees a great progression from the famous trio. Love it.

Video of the Day #95: Mirrorkicks

Click here to view the embedded video. Mirrorkicks - Lego I'm not a massive fan of Mirrorkicks, but we've got to agree that this video is pretty immense. It is apparently entirely homemade and took 6 months, 10,000 photographs and over 100 lego men to make it - definately a far cry from the usual "performance" videos we see released by lazy bands. The song is perfectly fun spiky pop-rock stuff, but nothing amazing. The press release says: The [...]

Video of the Day #94: Mew

Click here to view the embedded video. Mew - Introducing Palace Players Lasers, murky forests and strange objects? Well, it can only be Mew's new video for their lead single from their forthcoming album . Genius.

Videos of the Day #93: Richard Walters (and Tegan and Sara)

Click here to view the embedded video. Richard Walters -True Love Will Find You In The End (Daniel Johnston cover) Now, I know this is a slightly morose tune, but I really quite love the bauty and introspectiveness of this new Richard Walters track. Some of you may want to slit your wrists, but I personally love it. To go with this, I've not been able to stop watching this great video for Tegan and Sara's "Call it Off". I only [...]

Video of the Day #92: Friendly Fires

Click here to view the embedded video. Friendly Fires - Kiss of Life Yes, I love Friendly Fires a bit too much . This is their new single, a sort of stop-gap between albums. It's no "Jump in the Pool" or "Paris", but it is amazing, and the colours on this video are just amazing - so vivid, so bright, just how they should be for FF. Watch and enjoy.

Video of the Day #91: Lissy Trullie

Click here to view the embedded video. Lissy Trullie - Ready for the Floor (Hot Chip Cover) There's something alluring in Lissy Trullie's rock n' roll mystique and androgynous good looks, and we've written a fair bit about her here at TGTF, and love this cover of Hot Chip's Ready for the Floor. MP3: Lissy Trullie – Boy Boy MP3: Lissy Trullie – Self Taught Learner

Video of the Day #90: The Answering Machine

Click here to view the embedded video. I went through a stage earlier in the year of loving The Answering Machine a bit too much ( here ), and sort of run out of energy. However this video re-ignited my passion for them, a perfect fit to their new single, Oklahoma, which is out on 11th August.

Video of the Day #89: Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom , who I've caught supporting both Silversun Pickups and Red Light Company this year have just shown us their amazing new video for their limited edition single "Chalk Stars". It's hauntingly beautiful, and rather amazing. (Please note: I was going to feature this next week, however an advertiser is paying me to display it earlier, and I get paid a small amount (under 5p) for each view).

Video of the Day #88: Golden Silvers

Click here to view the embedded video. Fresh from being announced as the headliners of NME's Radar Tour later this year , this video for Golden Silvers ' new song is amazing. Looking like it's straight out of the 80's, I love it.

Video of the Day #87: Delphic – This Momentary

It's no Counterpoint, but still, this new Delphic song and video is sounding amazing. Slowly building into a great anthem, I love it but find it disconcerting. What do you think? Click here to view the embedded video. MP3: Delphic – Counterpoint

Video of the Day #86: Passion Pit

I'm not gonna lie. This week I've been hideously slack with writing here. Sorry. I've been dealing with some non-musical stuff of late, so hopefully come next week normal service can resume. I caught Friendly Fires on Wednesday night, Mew last night, and tomorrow I'm going to Lovebox in London - good times. I'll be twittering from Lovebox all day (phone signal permitting) and hopefully a few blog posts as time (and phone signal) allows. In the mean time, and before we get back to normal service, enjoy this amazing video from [...]
