Video of the Moment #707: Ok Go
Someone should just give Ok Go the Godlike Geniuses of Video award already. The latest example of their inventiveness in the visual musical form is their new one for 'Needing/Getting'. I'm not even going to try to explain what's happening in this video, it'd not do the band justice. Watch it below and prepare for the smile on your face. (Also, it sure beats Spector's 'Chevy Thunder' out of the water, I think you will agree.) Click here to view the embedded [...]
Video of the Moment #705: Dry the River
The new video from Dry the River , for their forthcoming single 'The Chambers and the Valves', doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you consider they're indie folksters. If anything, it proves deep down they're lads underneath, are rather fastidious when playing dress-up and would be fun party guests. This single will be out on the 27th of February.
Video of the Moment #703: The Whip
While it may have Brave New World overtones, the video for the Whip 's new single 'Movement' (out today on Southern Fried Records) stars some imaginative kids...being kids and having. Without being on the internet. What a concept. Except there is a bit of technology involved here, oops... The single includes remixes by The 2 Bears and In Flagranti. The band's 'Wired Together', released in September of last year and reviewed here , was one of my top 5 albums of 2011. You can read more about my [...]
Video of the Moment #702: M. Ward
M. Ward (1/2 of She and Him , he's pictured on the left of course) has a new video for 'The First Time I Ran Away'. This is the first song to be released to the public from his forthcoming album 'A Wasteland Companion', due out this spring. Beautiful animation. Click here to view the embedded video.
Video of the Moment #701: M.I.A.
While Lana Del Rey has been playing the submissive 'bad girl', M.I.A. proves in the promo for her new song 'Bad Girls' that being a bad girl in the Middle East involves not wearing a burka, wearing your bra over your clothes, setting fires in the middle of the desert and having your mates perform crazy tricks with their cars. More 'Rock the Casbah' in real life, as it were. Click here to view the embedded video.
Video of the Moment #700: Bombay Bicycle Club
To round off a long week nicely, how about the whimsical new video from Bombay Bicycle Club ? This one's for 'How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep', from 20112s 'A Different Kind of Fix' ( review here ). It has a Night Before Christmas kind of feel and you can tell it was so lovingly made. To see more on how it was created, head over to Anna Ginsburg's Tumblr. As for the song, it's definitely one of the more underrated tracks on the album. Enjoy your weekend, [...]
Video of the Moment #698: Skint and Demoralised
The theme for the video of Skint and Demoralised 's 'All the Rest is Propaganda'? The power of the written word can be used to win the one you love. Well, almost. Watch the promo below. By the way, if you're keen on S&D and want to lend your support, this very song is up for Steve Lamacq's Rebel Playlist on 6music this week. (In case you aren't familiar on how Rebel Playlist works, the track with the highest number of votes of the three song nominees are played every [...]
Video of the Moment #696: exlovers
The new exlovers video for 'Starlight, Starlight' is a series of grainy home videos strung together for a definite feeling of nostalgia. Watch it below. The band's new album 'Moths' is set for a spring release, so stay tuned. We offered the song as a previous MP3 of the Day freebie but that link has now expired; you can however still snag it for absolutely nothing on their official Web site. Click here to view the embedded video.
Video of the Moment #695: Phenomenal Handclap Band
The Phenomenal Handclap Band 's new video for 'The Right One' is trippy but not in the conventional sense. For example, this is entirely in black and white. While New York's Baeblemusic thinks you should be on something to enjoy it , we don't necessarily agree. (And if you were wondering, the band replied back to Baeblemusic, saying it was a "very rare substance" anyway. Ha!)
Video of the Moment #694: Lower Than Atlantis
Ever felt like Big Brother was watching you? Lower Than Atlantis 's new video for 'If the World Has to End' has a voyeuristic quality that plays into those fears. Or dreams I suppose, if you're the self-centred sort and think your life played out on tv would be interesting to everyone else. Click here to view the embedded video.
Video of the Moment #693: Heavyfeet and Nate James
Just in time for the weekend is the new video for Heavyfeet (pictured above) and Nate James ' 'Back Foot' (single out the 18th of March on dance label Champion Records). Effective use of animation with lyrics plus kung fu ninja moves make this promo as slick as the song itself. If these mad beats don't get you in the mood for the dance floor, I think my friend you are hopeless. Have a fab weekend, folks! Click here to [...]
Video of the Moment #692: Spector
Spector 's new single 'Chevy Thunder' appears to be about the love for an certain make of American automobile. To my knowledge, the band don't have a US tour planned - yet? - but this video plays into the idea of the band traveling across the West in a Chevy van and the messes they get into. Click here to view the embedded video. 'Chevy Thunder', the new single from Spector, will be released on the 27th of February.
Video of the Moment #691: Laura Marling
The promo video for 'I Was Just a Card', from Laura Marling 's third album 'A Creature I Don't Know' released in 2011 , features an ensemble young dancers interpreting the song in movement. I get confused with these kinds of treatments but whatever floats your boat...watch it below. Click here to view the embedded video.
Video of the Moment #690: The Twilight Sad
The Twilight Sad have released the new video for 'Another Bed', the second single for forthcoming third album 'No One Can Ever Know' ( review here ). As should be expected from the Twilight Sad, this is one creepy visual. I'm shuddering just thinking about it after watching it once; it's not for the faint of heart. Watch it below, if you dare. Catch the Sad on tour in February. 'No One Can Ever Know' drops on the 6th of February on Fat Cat. [...]
