Apparently, The Walkmen were unable to find enough space on their latest excellent LP Heaven . Two new tracks have surfaced titled "Dance With Your Partner" and "Vermeer '653 from said album sessions that did not make the final cut. Both are mellow affairs that are not some toss away tracks that you might expect given they did not get placement on the album. They make you wonder what other kind of unheard goodies might be out there. The limited edition of 1000 73 will be [...]

Known for their expansive recording sessions and globe traversing writing techniques, The Walkmen have never been short on new, diverse material. This year's album Heaven was a masterful number, a lesson in what it means to let go of inhibitions and attack your craft with no preconceived notions of what it needs to be. But it was also mature and introspective in a lot of ways. In talking with the band just after the release of Heaven , that was mostly what they emphasized, that Heaven is a record made without expectations or [...]
The Walkmen often talk about recording twenty or more tracks for a record then cutting the finished product back to ten, which is pretty excruciating for fans out there, but on their latest record Heaven they've said they went into the studio, recorded the record's ten songs, and called it a day. Turns out there are two unused tracks they recorded during those sessions, which the band are now releasing on a limited edition 73 on tour this fall. "Dance With Your Partner," with its moody jumps and echo-y guitar, reminds us a little of some of [...]

"The House You Made" is The Walkmen 's b-side to their very excellent new single "Heaven." As we're sure you know, "Heaven" is the title track to the band's forthcoming seventh studio album, out May 29th. "The House You Made" is another soaring ballad with a slow and steady build up from The Walkmen - something we suspect will happen a lot on Heaven . In describing his band's forthcoming album Heaven, Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser has promised a record documenting the band's maturation and a "bigger, more generous statement." With "We Can't Be Beat" the band seems to be delivering just that. The song begins with a mesmerizing and soothing fingerpicked guitar coupled with Leithauser's equally languid vocals. Fabulous vocal harmonies join in soon after giving the track another fantastic layer of detail, growing more powerful around the midpoint of the song. It is at this point where the song masterfully changes form into something a bit punchier but equally pleasant. You [...]

Following up " Heaven " and " Heartbreaker ", The Walkmen have offered up another track from their upcoming LP, Heaven . We've already heard quite a few cuts from The Walkmen's upcoming 7th album, Heaven , which is due out in June. And now we have another. Not that we're complaining. 'We Can't Be Beat' is a lovely acoustic lament that builds into a warm-hearted foot-stomper in its closing stages. When describing Heaven , singer Hamilton Leithauser says: "The detachment you can feel throughout our younger records is gone. We felt like it was time to make a bigger, more generous statement." Hurry up June the 4th.
Mark your calendars if you haven't already; The Walkmen are taking out their Heaven LP on May 29 via Fat Possum. Every song we've heard off the album has been really great so far ( "Heaven," and "Heartbreaker" ), a pattern they certainly do not intend on breaking with third sneak peak, a lovely, soaring ballad called "We Can't Be Beat."
