For months, I've been telling all my friends that ska legends Madness would be announcing a northern California date the week of April 16th. How could I be so sure? For years, The Coachella Festival has provided a bounty of shows in its wake. This year was bound to be a banner crop of shows [...]

This uke is for rock music.

The Sounds rocked The Warfield on Saturday night. Plain and simple. I say rocked, because there is really no other way to describe. it. Admittedly, I've listened to very little of the bands full length material, and considering myself a casual listener, I didn't know quite what to expect of their live show. No doubt I found myself moving my feet, and generally, feeling their message and energy throughout the performance. Maja Ivarsson has something engaging about her. She entered the stage with a burning cigarette in hand, sporting an american flag cut off top, and tiny shorts that most roller [...]

Leslie Feist's performance at The Warfield changed me. I had slighted the petite singer, known for her bubbly song "1,2,3,4" (featured on an iPod Nano commercial and later on Sesame Street), as a pop star lacking depth. Her 2004 breakout album, Let It Die , was a masterpiece of sweet, bright folk, with catchy hooks like on "Gatekeeper." But one album never warrants pure adoration, and in 2007, The Reminder , took a dramatic and unsatisfying shift towards forgettable pop music. As if responding to doubters, Feist returned with Metals, a triumphant bridge in her career. [...]

Light beams dancing across each cube while a cavalcade of sound erupts through the speakers, an inorganic noise buffet that makes you think "this is what it must sound like when Transformers have sex."

My buddies all made it out to see Amon Tobin last night as he played the second of two nights here in San Francisco at the Warfield. If you haven't followed along with the body of work that this genius has put out or you're just not into it , I beg you to employ a fully fresh palate when checking out his work on this ISAM tour . Visually and musically he's been stunning audiences nationally and he's got plenty more tour left (if it's not already sold out in your city)...(cough* Boulder [...]
Though the stage set up was grand and impressive, Two Door Cinema Club didn't need anything besides their talent to draw a crowd that size.
After reuniting for a handful of shows and an appearance at this years Coachella , Caifanes have announced a couple more show dates on their schedule here in the West Coast area. While none are taking place in Los Angeles (so far), we are sure all those hardcore Angeleno fans out there are willing to make the trip. Caifanes will be performing at the House of Blues in Las Vegas on September 16th, Valley View Casino in San Diego on September 17th, and then up north in San Francisco at the [...]
The L.A.-based band rocked San Francisco on June 22, 2011.

I'm a Bunnyhead. At various times I've tried to deny it. For a while I thought that it was just a phase of my youth, but alas, I am what I am. I first saw the Bunnymen perform Friday September 7th, 1984 at The Berkeley Community Theater. Over the past 25 years I've probably seen them perform 20 times in various incarnations, with and without Ian, Ian with and without the rest of the band, and as Eletrafiction. I've road tripped and flown cross country, crept and crawled under bleachers and even made a pilgrimage to Liverpool. I've gone backstage [...]

![[Live Review] Crystal Castles @ The Warfield](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3265177_lg.jpg)
Photos by Victoria Smith Written by Erik Thybony First impression on entering the Warfield lobby: holy fuck, this band is popular. The place is packed to capacity and I'm elbow to head with frantic, giggling high school kids. It's like a dwarf convention, but with hipper haircuts. Relax, you weird little munchkins. If you're lucky, you'll keep growing. The opening band is called Suuns. They're from Canada, and they pronounce their name "Soons." Hey, we're all adults here—I'll let you make your own Canadian jokes aboot that one. [...]

Crystal Castles The Toronto duo, Crystal Castles , was back in the Bay Area at The Warfield to melt faces on Friday night. The sold out venue was filled with enthusiastic fans looking to start their weekend off right. If you read our review of their performance at The Fox Theater last summer or know anything about them, then you should have an idea of how this show unfolded. Their noisy, "no apologies" electronic music blasted from the venue's sound system and bright strobes pulsed in varied colors as the crowd seemed to [...]
If you missed Iron and Wine's show at the Wiltern last month, there's news regarding his return to the West Coast for another opportunity at seeing him live. Unfortunately it's not in Los Angeles, but if you feel like taking...

Recently I wrote a review of Interpol at the Warfield . Didn't have a chance to include pix or a review of SVIIB. So here you go! You can catch the full School of Seven Bells photoset on flickr .

If you've been a fan of Interpol since their early post-punk days of Turn On the Bright Lights then you know what creative shift the band took with their third album, Our Love to Admire , and even more so now with their recently released self-titled album. Anyone who believes that the band has gone downhill since their first record, surely missed a revelatory experience at the Warfield on Monday. The show kicked off with their latest albums' opening song, "Success", a whirlwind of guitar slides courtesy of Daniel Kessler's unique guitar work; Sam Fogarino's [...]

Interpol played The Warfield Theater in San Francisco last Monday. If you've ever seen Interpol live, the three point executive summary should come as no surprise: The band was tight and well-rehearsed, their live renditions sounded identical to the recorded versions, and you couldn't really see the band because it was dark and they were primarily backlit. I could wax on about these three points, but why? My husband and I are long-time interpol fans. We knew the above when we bought tickets. I knew they'd be playing in the dark when I [...]
