As we sit in what can only be described as an overcast nightmare, last week's sun seeming like a distant memory, it's important to try and maintain some kind of summer spirit, which is why Washed Out's return couldn't have come at a better time. Frontrunner in the 'chillwave' movement back in 2011, Ernest Greene's intricate brand of electronica made waves on his acclaimed debut 'Within and Without', and August will see his long awaited return, with follow up 'Paracosm' announced earlier today. Along with the tracklisting and details of who Greene has worked with on [...]
You gotta respect the hazy chilled-out, psychedelic sounds of Washed Out, a group we've come to love over the past few years and who now [...]

With Washed Out's 2011 debut album, Within and Without, proving a resolute success we are always eager to more from Ernest Greene and his band of synths, bleeps and dreamy soundscapes. Which all works out perfectly as his new cut, which comes courtesy of a Phillips advertising campaign called 'Sound of Creation', is exactly that. A gorgeous instrumental track, this washes over you over the course of its three-and-a-half minutes. Whets the appetite for more music from Greene.

Washed Out , aka Ernest Greene, aka that band that does Portlandia's opening theme song, has unleashed new music for the world to enjoy. That's the good news! The bad news is we don't yet have any hints of a new record. This was created for a Philips Electronics campaign. http://soundcloud.com/conseque nceofsound/washed-out-the-soun d-of Consequence Of Sound via Prefix Mag

Ernest Greene's ( Washed Out ) newest track, "The Sound of Creation," may have been commissioned by Philips the electronics giant, but it belongs in Phillips the museum — because this dreamy three-minute soundscape is a work of Art with a capital A. It's also Gorgeous with a capital G. Indie-meets-industry collaborations don't always produce these kinds of results. But in this case, we can thank both Greene and Phillip's The Sound of Creation campaign for a gem. Enjoy. MP3: Washed Out - "The Sound of Creation"
As part of a promotional deal with Phillips, bedroom-synthpop impressionist Ernest Greene, better known to all but his parents as Washed Out, was assigned the task of making "autobiographical exploration of his music influences." The result, "The Sound Of Creation," is a short but deeply pretty instrumental that Greene made with foley sound effects; I'm pretty sure cricket-chirps are a part of the rhythmic track. In one year from today I will be getting married to a very nice woman. The party will be in the mountains at a heli-skiing lodge (pictured above). Here are a few songs that are leading the way out of the gates for our official wedding theme song. I probably won't get my way. 1. John Prine & Iris Dement - In Spite of Ourselves [...]
Stereogum Next week, My Morning Jacket will release their Outta My System – Remixez Y Friendz EP. They've recruited people like Washed Out and Dave Sitek to remix "Outta My System," a track from their 2011 album Circuital . And they've helpfully posted the Washed Out remix, which turns the track into smeary synthpop and includes a sample of some philosophical ramblings. Listen to it below. Read More... [...]

By this point, if you follow more than just one music site or blog, you'll have no doubt heard about this new Fleetwood Mac tribute album that's been getting a fair amount of buzz. That buzz is due largely in part the sheer quality of the artists taking part in the tribute with St. Vincent , The New Pornographers , Antony Hegarty , Lykke Li , Washed Out [...]

The indie rock tribute album to Fleetwood Mac, Just Tell Me You Want Me , got considerably more timely with last week's announcement that the Mac would be reuniting for a tour. So this is a good time to celebrate the band's evergreen catalog, which we've been doing a lot lately, with posts on Best Coast x "Rhiannon" (better than Cosentino's non-comp take on "Storms" ), New Pornographers ' reverent and great take on "Think About Me," Lee Ranaldo Band with J Mascis on "Albatross" , The Kills on "Dreams," [...]

In the middle of August we'll see a compilation release of covers of classic Fleetwood Mac songs by the likes of MGMT , Tame Impala , Antony , St. Vincent , Washed Out , The New Pornographers , and a bunch more. Today a flurry of the covers showed up online, though some of which have since been yanked, presumably for being [...]
