(photo taken from Lesley James' facebook ) The Black Keys donated a signed guitar that will be auctioned off leading into this year's Andyman-a-thon on CD102.5 . The Andyman-A-Thon is a Holiday tradition that is entering it 19th year. The late Andyman Davis would stay on his radio station's airwaves, awake for 48 hours straight to raise money for children's charties in Columbus.CD102.5 Listeners were encouraged to call in to request songs and donate money. Last year's Andyman Tribute Concert at the LC paid a great tribute to the dearly-missed Columbus icon. The show, featuring six of Andyman's favorite Columbus bands, was filmed and the resulting footage will be premiered tonight at Studio 35 Cinema and Drafthouse . Doors open at 9pm and tickets are $7 (all ticket sales go to Andyman-a-Thon charities). DVDs will be available at the premiere (and hopefully afterwards for those who can't attend) for $15.

CD101 (@102.5)'s Brian Phillips and Watershed's Colin Gawel have teamed up for "Reelin' & Rockin'" at the Gateway Film Center . Basically, the third Wednesday of every month Gawel and Phillips will screen a classic rock 'n roll documentary on the big screen. (The bar opens at 6 and the movie starts at 7.) It's Gawel's hope that the series turns into a "nerdy music gathering once a month with beer but no live music." Last month was Gimme Shelter , and Wednesday's film is I am Trying to Break Your Heart , [...]
Congrats to reader Peter Eisenberg. He correctly identified last week's logo as belonging to the band Aposepsy, and for his troubles, he wins five CDs from the MetalSucks Mansion archives. Enjoy 'em, Pete! This week we have a really super awesome prize: a copy of the CD booklet for Opeth's Watershed that has been signed [...]

I'm not a big fan of drone but this track from Warning Light's forthcoming album Wild Silver touches enough ambient reference points to make it dreamy, rather than dull. This is another track (like Jad Cooper's here ) where the picture of the sea matches the feel of the track. Last time it was sun on glittering sea. This time it is gentle swell and autumnal sea haze. The drone ebbs and flows until waves finally lap on the shore. To listen and download. Warning Light's new album [...]

Colin Gawel has a new Christmas EP out called I Still Love Christmas , available at his website and all the usual digital retailers. Title track ($1): You can also find Gawel's "Try a Little Faith" (featuring Marcy Mays of Scrawl) on A Very Ohio Christmas . Earwig is giving away the song "Next Christmas" off Lizard McGee and crew's 2010 release Gibson Under Mountain : I also noticed that Lizard is giving away an acoustic version [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. MP3: Earwig - Trees Every year around the holidays people in Columbus have rallied around Andyman Davis to raise money for CD101 for the Kids , and that hasn't changed now that Andyman is gone. In fact, Andyman's buddies from bands of Columbus past (and present) are stepping up to reunite for one night at the LC Pavilion just to raise money for CD101 for the Kids and the Andy Davis Memorial Fund . A [...]

Colin Gawel (Watershed) loves Cheap Trick, so much so that he ranked all of the band's songs (apparently 184?) with some notes about most of them, links to videos, etc. Check it out here . Colin Gawel and the Lonely Bones will kick off the Goodale Park Music Series Sunday afternoon, free at the gazebo from 12:30-2.
You know Colin Gawel from Watershed, or maybe his coffee shop in Columbus, or maybe because he's a solid dude. He's been releasing a lot of solo material and I was really impressed with the Ready-for-VH1 production quality for his latest video for the song "Superior." Click here to view the embedded video. This is what Colin has to say about the video: I would love to take credit for the video but the guys at Palestra Creative really did [...]

John-Scott Croly skipped along to Wimbledon's Watershed to see Band Of Skulls ( above ) support some people called The London Punks t'other day week. Hotly-tipped Southampton blues-rockers Band of Skulls were this show's not-so-secret support act, squeezing in a quick one on their way back home for a well-earned weekend off. They blew the sweaty roof off the Watershed's dank back room - not that any of the 20 or so glass-eyed punters noticed. Without their own following, the trio had to make do with the headliners' early crowd [...]

Colin Gawel, better known as one of the principal singers and songwriters of veteran local rock band Watershed, has more than an album full of solo material, but he's forgoing the traditional record-release model for his debut. Instead, Gawel's releasing a CD single on producer Mike Landolt's Curry House Music label every six months or so, beginning with Chemotherapy this Friday at the Rumba Cafe. The show will feature his backing band, the Lonely Bones. Admission includes a CD. Music at 9:30 pm. Judging by the rootsy title track, along with two other originals, Gawel still [...]

In this week's paper, you can check out my review of the seven-year anniversary concert at Skully's featuring seven local bands: the Whiles, Two Cow Garage, Deathly Fighter, Good Company, Bush League All-Stars, Psychedelic Horseshit and Unholy Two. I also wrote a feature about all the behind-the-scenes turmoil accompanying this year's Hate Michigan Rally with the very much alive Dead Schembechlers, Watershed, and, oddly, the All American Rejects. For some reason that one isn't online yet, but I'll put a link up when it (hopefully) goes live. Oh, and preview blurbs for Marnie Stern [...]

The Watershed, 2008, digital art as giclee print, 203x203. Limited to a single print. This started out as a series of smaller panels where the man involved went through a spectrum of emotions, culminating in this piece. The smaller pieces didn't turn out so good, but this particular one was golden. It wasn't until last night that the term watershed seemed fitting, but once it came out there was no changing. It fit as well as anything else in this piece. The Watershed is all about beating [...]
Duffy was supposed to pass along a promo copy of Watershed's new live CD - Three Chords and a Cloud of Dust II - to me to review before the big sha-bang tonight at mini-Polaris (aka outdoor venue The LC located in the heart of Columbus) but the pass off never happened so now I just have to write about how damn swell I think the live album is even though I haven't heard it yet. The details: Watershed / Earwig / Two Cow [...]
