The Presets are performing at the Odgen Theater tomorrow co-headlining with Dragonette and openers Classixx. In all honesty, the three could be headlining the evening with strong new(ish) albums from both the Presets and SoCal's Classixx. The Presets' latest release, "Pacifica," has a tinge of Darren Emerson from Underworld sprinkled for good measure on Australia's best hope to follow in the footsteps of Cut Copy. "Pacifica" is a step in the right direction of using more instruments versus leaning too much on the electronic element with a more organic feel compared to previous efforts. Classixx's "Hanging Gardens" [...]
Weekend - the fuzzed-out noisemakers responsible for 2010’s excellent Sports - will return this July with Jinx (a ballsy name for a sophomore album if there ever was one). The record reflects a series of big changes for the band. In addition to relocating from San Francisco to Brooklyn just after the recording of the album, the record also finds the former trio adding a fourth member (bassist Nick Ray) to the mix. Those worried that that these changes might temper the band’s sound need not fret. The songs on Jinx - as evidenced [...]

That's how stacked this comp is, yo, I don't have to skip names on it. It's called Garage Swim and here's hoping that we get more of these in the future. The tracklist and a stream are below, get to it. [...]

Adult Swim has been on a roll with music lately. If you recognize the name at all, most know Adult Swim from their late night spot on Cartoon Network, giving home to cult classic TV like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, and Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, and also ridiculous parodies including Childrens Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV. But last year, Adult Swim curated an excellent Singles Program , giving viewers a free compilation of 13 exclusive singles from some fantastic names on the indie scene, including Wye Oak, Wavves, Flying [...]
Not my usual album review here, but I liked this single that came across my inbox. "Mirror" begins with some ambient sound and marches into an effective mix of distortion, simple percussion and a driving baseline, setting the stage for a dreamy guitar and vocals. The tune grows more complex and triumphant as it goes along, leaving the listener satisfied. The song has a little bit of an 802s feel, but this happens organically and isn't sought after, in my view. A grittier, modern version of The Police was my initial impression. Anyway, check this single out here!

Jinx will see daylight shortly. Follow Weekend on Twitter. Like Weekend on Facebook. Follow Weekend on Tumblr. Purchase Weekend items via Insound. 1. What sort of goals did you have in mind while recording Jinx ? This time around we really wanted to focus on making something hard-hitting, emotionally unguarded and more immediate. Our songs had always come from an emotionally volatile place but the shrouded production style covered up a lot of the storytelling possibilities of the vocals, and [...]

La plateforme Adult Swin nous présente aujourd'hui, non pas un épisode inédit bien marrant, mais sa nouvelle compilation nommée Garage Swin . Une très bonne compilation disponible en téléchargement gratuit dès maintenant ici .

Photo Credit: Sprengben [why not get a friend] via Compfight cc My apologies for being a tad late on last month’s mixtape; my listening/exploring last month was heavily skewed towards pop/electronic pop and that’s reflected in the April 2013 mixtape as well. It includes music by new discoveries like George Maple , Mr Little Jeans , [...]

After experimenting with three formats for the Monthly Mix - MP3 zip, Spotify playlist, Soundcloud set, etc. - in March we finally came upon a solution that pleased everyone: all of them. And so, for you, here is the month's music, whittled down to its very best, via each of the aforementioned mediums, limited only by its availability on said mediums. This means a 13-track zip, a 12-track Spotify playlist, and a whopping 54-track Soundcloud stream. And somehow, falling through all the cracks and not represented on any is one of the month's finest: The National's straight-to-Youtube " [...]

In anticipation, stream the scuffy dance floor madness of Thee Oh Sees' inclusion, "Devil Again". We stress that you find a greasy wooden floor for this one. [...]

Former west coast and now Brooklyn based psych rockers Weekend are preparing to release their sophomore album "Jinx," this summer. In advance of that comes the recently released lead single "Mirror," which hints at sonic explorations different from what was presented on their debut album "Sports." Standout tracks from that initial record like "Coma Summer" emphasized a deep reverberation and warped aesthetic (in both attitude and sound). Their latest track, however presents a cleaner approach with fewer layers, an ethereal synthesizer wash (especially as the track opens) placing emphasis on more clearly audible vocals with echoy guitar lines [...]
