Cover songs are still my favorite way for emerging bands to put their own sound on a hit song and get easy attention. However 2012 was for some reason a slow year for cover songs. One thing I can safely say is that The Weeknd was higher than Ellie Goulding when creating the original "High For This". It doesn't matter too much though, as Goulding has linked up with Xaphoon Jones for a dope cover of The Weeknd's "High For This". Ellie Goulding covering my favorite neo soul singer... this sounds too good to be true. And to top it all off we get Xaphoon of Chiddy Bang on production... yep, these names are building it up to something I don't think they can even live up to. And as much as I love the concept, it's going to take some time for me to fall for the actual product. I like the overall mood and what Ellie does with her part, but it sure doesn't spark the emotion that The Weeknd's original does [...]
So apparently Ellie Goulding and Xaphoon Jones were just hanging out one day and came to the conclusion that they should make a cover of blog sensation, The Weeknd's song, "High For This". With Xaph in the producer's seat and Ms. Goulding behind the mic, you know you are going to be pleased. The music plays perfectly to Ellie Goulding's vocal style. It's great. Enjoy.

Since the release of her debut album a few years back, Ellie Goulding has been just about everywhere. Toured the world and even played the Royal Wedding in the UK last summer. Not bad eh? Since then though it has been a little quiet from the Goulding camp. She's now teamed up with Chiddy Bang -producer Xaphoon Jones to cover The Weeknd . I like the sound of this already.
