Do yourself a favor and download this album. Here, it's free . And while you are at it, go ahead and download Thursday and House of Balloons off of the website too. Just click that little arrow to the right of the album art. They are all free, and they are all really, really good. Before 2011, The Weeknd barely even existed. But within a year, and with some help from Montreal pal Drake , Abel Tesfaye released three full-length fantastic mixtapes, each of which has received well-deserved attention. [...]

Reissued with three bonus tracks twelve days ago, but never covered on Earmilk, DropxLife 's newest mixtape, Furthur , is worthy of all the promotion it gets-- even if it's a little late coming. Having been a co-producer of The Weeknd 's "Initiation," and worked on Drake 's latest album, Take Care , it's obvious why Abel Tesfaye and Aubrey Graham picked him up for the job. A master of hazy, mind-numbing, chilled-out beats, Martin Wong, is able to knock you off your feet with his wickedly beautiful sounding instrumentals. The guy is really a [...]

A late entry to our 10 Biggest Band Beefs Of 2011 list was the developing issue between Common and Drake, which may or may not have been based on general jealousy surrounding Serena Williams, of all people. Common started things out, huffing and puffing at Drake on his song " Sweet ," and each one had made pointed comments about the other in various public forums. That particular pro-wrestling storyline has continued into the new year. Drake, sounding more legitimately tough than he ever has before, served up some impressively regal disdain for Common on his verse from [...]

Tweet Abel Tesfaye, the voice behind Toronto-based The Weeknd , has had quite the year. In March, he released "House of Balloons", a dark collection of songs that emphasized his strengths as a prolific, melody-building crooner. Tesfaye oddly stayed out of the direct spotlight, which raised the anticipation from his fans for new material, that came in the form of another mixtape entitled "Thursday". After the two mixtapes, and appearing on Drake’s "Take Care" multiple times, Tesfaye dropped his final mixtape [...]

A few nights ago while fucking around in his studio, "The Renaissance Man" MeLo-X , recorded and shared this live video of himself re-editing Drake and The Weeknd 's killer track "Crew Love". While the resulting product is pretty solid in its own right, the coolest part is watching MeLo essentially create this new version on the spot. You can check the vid and also download the re-edit below. Props out to MeLo-X for the creativity and skill. If you'd like to hear more from him you can pre-order his new project Fewture [...]

The first round of the NFL playoffs is upon us, and let's be real Bronco fans, there's no real expectation for the home team. The Donkeys are an 8 pt underdog at home. It's in this type of position that my beloved Donkeys excel the most when there is no expectations. The underachieving team wasn't meant to get this far. Three to Four victories were expected and now all of a sudden they've backed into the playoffs as the AFC West champions. It's the Las Vegas equivalent of going into a casino and putting in a [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Danielle Da Silva for The Come Up Show, Flickr With the secrecy regarding releases and rare live performances adding to their heavily cultivated mystique, Toronto group the Weeknd appears ready to take its avant-R&B on the road. As noted by Exclaim! , the outfit fronted by singer Abel Tesfaye took to its Facebook page Jan. 4 seeking musicians who are [...]
Sharing the playing field with artists like The Weeknd , Frank Ocean , and even Drake from time to time, you really have to come out swinging if you plan on bringing home the dirtiest of the Dianas. Well, as Masspike Miles shouts, "Baby, I just want to make your love come down," on "Love Come Down" in the soulful, charming way that you can imagine a young Usher would, you can't help but imagine the amount of panties he's dropping. Just like his competition, there's something unsettling and beautiful about the way, [...]

We love MeLo-X . Its been stated on here before and we have no qualms that will be iterated again and again. He is famous for his instrumentals and production, but he is also infamous for his live remixes. Using his MPD and pre loaded samples and cuts of his own, he brings together his take on 'Crew Love' from Drakes 'Take Care' album, featuring The Weeknd. You can pre-order his latest instrumental album now. Stay in touch here .

Following on (belatedly) from Eclectic Eavesdroppings Favourite Albums of the year, here are my Favourite Songs of 2011 . Compressing the musical year into a mere twenty-five songs is a tough task for a music junkie like myself. Listing the songs in order of preference is near impossible. But either way, I’ve done my best to get a list together and even though it’s incredibly subjective, it sums up a very good year in music. Stream it as a playlist on YouTube over HERE or download a copy of the whole mix over HERE . [...]

Tweet Listen to Pawncho 's new song "Furthur" below. 2011 was the year of The Weeknd , the Torontonian R&B artist who took most of your local music scenes by storm by releasing three free mixtapes between March and December. Lesser-known is the OVOXO crew of which he's a part of, featuring many an artist including Drake . Pawncho [...]

Here is a couple of photos from inside the studio during Drake's time working on his latest album "Take Care." The photos were taking by Ruben Rivera and highlights Drake, 40, and The Weekend. Thanks to Octobers Very Own for the pics.

One day we’ll all look back on what The Weeknd accomplished in 2011 and our jaws will drop in wonder and amazement. That’s assuming, of course, that we somehow get over the initial shock of how a 21-year-old from Toronto without a record label or any sort of prior claim to fame dropped three mixtapes in a nine-month span that, to put it politely, embarrassed basically everyone else releasing music in the same timeframe. It’s like if all three Lord Of The Rings movies came out in the same year, weren’t butt-numbingly long, and oh yeah, they’re all [...]

So here it is...in no real particular order, my best albums of 2011 list. It was definitely a great year for music. I had many of these albums of repeat for several days, if not weeks, straight. 2011 was also an amazing year for Canadian musicians - check out Spinner Canada's article, " 2011: The Year Canadian Music Broke ."
