Deerhunter Microcastle/Weird Era Cont. (Kranky, 2008) You can't seperate Microcastle from Weird Era Cont. It isn't that they don't have their own nuances and individuality, but together, referencing one another, they are simply divine. Deerhunter's simplification and whole hearted embrace of pop on this (these) release(s) provides some of the most gorgeous moments of straight hooks of the decade. There is bliss around every corner. The release of Microcastle/Weird Era Cont. cements Deerhunter as one of the most important bands of the [...]

MP3: Deerhunter - Calvary Scars II / Aux Out Alright here is how this is going to go, and I'm probably only going to say this once: Every day until we finish, myself and Matt Giordano are counting down the very best albums of the decade. We each have our own awesome fucking lists and sometimes we share a few picks. Either way, both lists are the official stance on the music of this decade. Matt is kicking us off and my post will come later in the afternoon, from there it [...]

via The Decibel Tolls The last album on my chrono-ordered list, Deerhunter's Microcastle/Weird Era Cont. was probably the biggest surprise for me this year. I'd never been a huge fan of Deerhunter because, well, I didn't really get them. I liked Atlas Sound a lot, which I discovered earlier in the year , but I never got around to liking Cryptograms , the last Deerhunter album (I'm going to give it an honest try over the next few days). Then again, I used to [...]

Dead band members, armed robbery, comas, confused sexuality, 'poop journals', self-loathing, child abuse, genetic disorders, nervous breakdowns and walkouts – this is the context that framed Deerhunter's output in 2007. The music may have been good enough to stand on its own but, whether the listener was interested or not, it came with side stories. Speaking to frontman Bradford Cox a year ago, it was clear that his music was so closely related to his personal life that to [...]

One of the finer releases of 2008 has finally been released in physical form, after its earlier leak and subsequent digital release on iTunes last August. Microcastle is the much anticipated follow-up to Deerhunter's 2007 breakthrough album Cryptograms . The new release comes packaged with a special bonus CD containing another entire album entitled Weird Era Continued . I know I've said this before, but frontman Bradford Cox is the single most prolific man in music today. After all, earlier this year he also released an exceptional album under his side project [...]
ALL THE RAGE: Deerhunter words: Jamie Milton Yesterday I decided to get the ball rolling for the nominations process in our "act of the year award". I hadn't given anybody a restriction on who they could choose but when I put the question to a lovely forum, the response was pretty unanimous from the off. It's been an almighty year for Bradford Cox. Since 'Cryptograms' split opinion in half, since the band got sack-fuls of equipment stolen after a show, he and [...]

Tomorrow, Deerhunter's monolithic double disc Microcastle/Weird Era Cont. drops courtesy of Kranky or 4AD , depending on where you live. Yes, it leaked, and we all greedily took. We all witnessed the Lord of the Flies -esque free-for-all, and the subsequent fallout from the blog debacle - in addition to the rueful behavior of the fallible, sinful collective of scalawags and pirates known as your peers and neighbors. And after the dust settled, we all found out that Deerhunter had recorded an incredible collection of music. [...]

Like me with this site's design and layout, Deerhunter likes to tweak and change and constantly alter the forthcoming Microcastle/Weird Era Cont cover. The original, found here, will still be displayed on the domestic Kranky vinyl release, though. There's also this one floating around that appears as the proper art via iTunes. So... what do you think? I think it's awesome - it's like Belle and Sebastian gone metal. And as you might note on my FaCeBoOk , "skulls" are one of my many refined interests, so obviously I [...]
Deerhunter - Vox Humana This is one of my favourite tracks from Weird Era Cont. , the 'extra album' recorded to accompany the physical release of Microcastle , both of which have suffered from well-publicised leaks over the summer. Vox Humana catches Bradford Cox indulging in a moment of nostalgia while showing off that shimmering Doo Wop influence once again. Be sure to pick Microcastle on vinyl come this Halloween, I know I will. Microcastle and Weird Era Cont. will be [...]

Deerhunter - Calvary Scars II / Aux Out unmastered, raw and pure... de-abia astept sa iasa albumul

**For maximum effect, please read the opening paragraph with the inflection of a radio theater narrator circa 1955 or so** When we last left our heroes, Kenny Bloggins and friends were destroying the paradigm of lame and old hat record reviews with a critique of Microcastle in real-time, before your very eyes. After careful consideration and a positive response from readers, the real-time review is back for another go with Weird Era Cont. Keep your dial locked to this station for keen adventure that can only be described as 23 skidoo! For you listening [...]

Inspired by the Deerhunter blog debacle that unfurled before everyone's eyes last week, I'd like to review the new Deerhunter album, Microcastle , in real time as I listen to it. Microcastle is available now on iTunes, and will be realized in the third dimension on October 28, courtesy of the smartest people alive - Kranky Records . Mashin' play... "Intro" (1:21) - I was hoping for a fun sketch or the like - ya know, somethin' similar to the opener "Recognize" off [...]

Inspired by the Deerhunter blog debacle that unfurled before everyone's eyes in real time last week, I'd like to review the new Deerhunter stereophonic delight Microcastle also in real time. Microcastle is available now on iTunes, and will be realized in the third dimension on October 28, courtesy of the smartest people alive - Kranky Records . Mashin' play... "Intro" (1:21) - I was hoping for a fun sketch or the like - ya know, somethin' similar to the opener "Recognize" [...]
I'm going to bat for Bradford and pals. Deerhunter has been good to us. On their blog , bandleader Bradford Cox has been pretty great about providing new songs and sneak peeks of forthcoming material. While posting a link to the new Atlas Sound 73 , via Mediafire, Bradford unwittingly provided a public portal to all of his uploaded material, including two not-yet-released albums, unfinished demos, and the famous Deerhunter "micromixes." In essence, his diary was discovered. As you can imagine, a free-for-all ensued. One of the thieves made to the [...]
