As One For The People quite rightly contend, the soils of the Australasian continent are becoming increasingly fertile – at least from a musical perspective. And riding high on this crest-like upward trend are Perth four-piece Braves , whose Sorrow EP interpolates oneiric pop proclivities in a nebulous lo-fi backdrop of dizzying guitar lines and giddy cymbals. It's insouciant, and sporadically brattish (opener Sadko In The Underwater Kingdom sounds like Blink-182 reared on No Age and other such shitgaze ) though its crowning moment is also its ultimate – the self-confessed heartbreak-pop of Hallows. A disorientating [...]

Hidden Shoal Recordings is proud to announce the signing of Australian experimental/ambient duo Gilded to its roster of artists. Gilded operates around the intersections of melody and texture, movement and pause. The project brings together the similar but distinct musical directions of West Australian experimental musicians Matt Rösner and Adam Trainer, forging a new approach to composition and sound creation that is based as much around rhythm and repetition as it is around drone and abstraction. The title of Gilded's debut album Terrane comes from a geological formation that has become dislocated from its [...]

Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the release of the single ‘ Faithless Friend ’ by Perth-based compelled acoustic spacemakers Fall Electric . ‘Faithless Friend’ sees Fall Electric in full rock mode. Edgy, overdriven acoustic guitar is lent friction and gravity coupled with cello stabs and bows, woven around urgent, tumbling drums, with Andrew Ryan’s compelling refrain, “Do you think the warmonger was a happy kid?” spilling across the top. The song canters and bucks frenetically before fading away in a wry homage to the Nirvana classic ‘Something In The Way’. The single also includes the bonus track [...]
