Dan Deacon is coming to the 40 Watt club on December 11. We're giving away a pair of tickets! I've lost track of how many times I've seen him, but it's always a blast. My friend Dottie says the opening act Grand Buffet should not be missed. (I would never miss a buffet.) The video for "True Thrush" off Dan's most recent record, America , is a visual game of telephone. A couple of my Baltimore buddies pop up here [...]
Dan Deacon's new video for "True Thrush," based on the game "telephone," is a celebration of silly antics and a glimpse into memory distortion.

Future Islands, with Ed Schrader's Music Beat and Javelin / Mr. Small's / 10.26.2011 / 8:00 / $12 Words by Brendan A Future Islands show is as much about theatre as it is music. I'm not saying they stage mini plays or anything like that, but there's definitely a heavy aura of artistic performance associated with their stage presence. In particular, singer Samuel Herring jumps around, pounds his chest, glares at the crowd, shouts to the heavens ... It's fucking powerful, I assure you. You have [...]

Dan Deacon plays the first night of his solo tour tonight at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ (though there is a big gap between this and his next show on October 29 in Asheville, NC). This will be the last chance to catch his solo set, as he'll be touring with his ensemble in 2012. In other Dan Deacon-related news, the Wham City Comedy tour also has some dates coming up--many of which overlap with Dan on tour. The full schedule for both is below. Dan Deacon tour dates: 09/21 - [...]

Aside from being an eccentric electro composer, Dan Deacon also moonlights as a member of the Baltimore, MD art collective Wham City . This fall and winter, Deacon will be a busy boy as he splits his time between select solo shows and as a part of the "Wham City Comedy Tour 20113 . Maybe his dynamite work ethic is why he and Francis Ford Coppola are artistic BFFs ? Deacon's solo dates will be spread out between Wham City shows and extend into the end of this year. After hitting Hoboken tomorrow, [...]
The second annual MoogFest has added to the already impressive pool of talent set to descend on Asheville, NC between October 28th and 30th. Other new additions include Kode9, Atlas Sound, Portishead off-shoot Beak>, Glasser, Stickmen (Tony Levin & Pat Mastelotto), Lunzproject (Hans-Joachim Roedelius & Tim Story), and Dan Deacon's Wham City Comedy Tour. Even more acts will be [...]

As harbingers of party vibes go, they don't get much better or more ridiculous than Dan Deacon . In all our years of attending gigs, we can say without doubt we have never had as much fun as when attending his shows, which are to all intensive purposes a children's birthday party soundtracked by high octane and somewhat mental spazztronica. Games we have played whilst at a Dan Deacon concert include the following; forming a human tunnel out of the back of the room, down the stairs and out onto the street leaving only the band in the venue; musical bumps; [...]

Adventure - Lesser Known MMM 1/2 Adventure, the electronic project of Baltimore and Wham City resident Benny Boeldt, owes a lot to the electronica that was birthed in the ‘80s. Lesser Known , his second full-length, ditches the 8-bit, electronic frame of Adventure’s self-titled debut in favor of pop hooks and more dynamic, profound – not to mention dance floor-ready – electropop songs. And while Boeldt has added vibrancy and pop accessibility to his [...]

With a hint of eyeliner and an 80’s style wig, multi-talented musician and comedian Ed Schrader has been known to transform into a mullet-wearing, Labyrinth-era David Bowie impersonator. According to his Wham City bio (Schrader is a founding member of the Baltimore music and art collective Wham City), Schrader openly claims of having an open obsession with Bowie, to a point where it’s a problem. There’s plenty of other Bowie eras that Schrader could delve into and obsess over in his comedy routine, but instead, he focuses his energy on other projects such as the Ed Schrader Show, [...]
![[Listen] – New Song By Future Islands – “In The Inkwell”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2948851_lg.jpg)
My boy Anthony "Soft 83 Fantano (he likes it when you call him that) kinda gave Future Islands' latest album "In Evening Air" a poor review, but thanks to him enjoying this song it's now being posted here, because I wasn't even aware of its existence. When I say he gave it a poor review, I mean it just wasn't as glowing as I'd give it if I had half the "writing" ability as he does. He did make some valid points and some I will never agree with, but as always his reviews [...]
For those living in baltimore (or even a lot outside) wham city isn't as unknown as they used to be, but i still thought this short mini documentary of the baltimore art collective was worth posting, and gives a more insider look than a lot of people might have previously had. Their whartscape this year was unsurprisingly amazing, and we look forward to whatever they have plans for in the future (whartcape or not).
We gave you a good amount of tease leading up to Whartscape a couple of weeks back, and after a great whirlwind of a weekend, contributor Marian McLaughlin has compiled her experience at the festival into a swift little package. Theatre, comedy, performance art and, of course, bands for days, this year's festival promised to be big, and it delivered. Check out these video clips that Marian has put together and a selection of photos from the weekend as well. Enjoy! [...]

Simply taking a look at the Whartscape 2010 lineup on Wham City's homepage feels like a sensory overload. Four straight days of music, this weekend, from July 22 to July 25. Like most music and art festivals, Thursday serves as a kickoff day, and the stream of live music only runs for a portion of the day, from 4 pm until midnight, at the Charles Theatre. But for the next three days of the festival, the music starts at noon at the Current Space and runs well past midnight throughout the H&H Building. [...]

MP3: Lizz King - Mr. Fella MP3: Lizz King - Till They Do Where do I begin? All Songs Go To Heaven was, to me, quite unprecedented. Honestly, I didn’t even know about its release until Greg posted a preview for Lizz King’s album party at the Windup Space. Shows how informed I am. I'm just glad to not have missed out. Now, although there are a number of routes I might take to [...]

MP3: Lizz King - Mr. Fella MP3: Lizz King - Till They Do Lizz King is a joy to behold; her opening performance for Daniel Johnston back in 2008 was an astounding moment that still sticks with me today. So, it is with equal joy that I announce local label Ehse Records is finally releasing her debut full-length All Songs Go To Heaven . [...]

MUSIC NEWS - Dan Deacon is heading back out on tour next week with his buddies Nuclear Power Pants, traveling once again in his veggie oil bus (they'll need veggie oil this time too, same offer stands from the last tour if you're able to help provide them with veggie oil along the way). We've listed the complete, final, updated tour dates below. To celebrate the tour, Post Typography designed an amazing new poster (at [...]
