Another week, another Portland group unveiling a beautiful set at the Daytrotter Sessions . This time, it's White Hinterland , stripped down and sonorous in their simplicity. While the duo is usually known for more produced and programmed sounds, here they step away from the electronics in favor of a single piano and singer Casey Dienel's richly alluring voice. Like all Daytrotter Sessions, this one showcases the band in a new light, intimate and humble, yet White Hinterland's stunning turn here more than just a change of pace, it's a revelation. You can hear the first track of [...]

Download: Alan Wilkis - Shadow ft. Lyrics Born & White Hinterland New music from Alan Wilkis' upcoming project PRINTS , second leak titled "Shadow" featuring Lyrics Born & White Hinterland. Stay tuned for more from PRINTS !!!
Portland home-recording type Casey Dienel has carved out a niche for herself making evocative, elliptical music as White Hinterland. This makes her basically the opposite of Katy Perry, whose " Teenage Dream " is the sort of anthemic big-pop yowler that you can get stuck in your head just by reading the title. But as part of a new Daytrotter session , Dienel successfully converted "Teenage Dream" into something that belongs in her sound-world. Listen to it at Disco Naïveté .

White Hinterland have successfully covered popular (pop) songs before, like Justin Timberlake , Neon Indian and Björk - their spellbinding take on Katy Perry's Teenage Dream , performed on Daytrotter , makes you re-discover the song in its entirety, a perfect add to their list of mesmerizing covers.
Alan Wilkis' production first caught my attention with his KickDrums collaboration this past October, which was the first release from his PRINTS series. The interactive 360-degree music video for that was on another level, too. Well, now he's back with the second release from the series, and it's another jam. Showcasing some soulful singing from [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , RPM , New Music , New Releases Alan Wilkis Alan Wilkis is one of Brooklyn, N.Y.'s best kept secrets. The producer has been remixing the likes of Yeasayer , RJD2 , Phantogram and many others to great critical acclaim, but now it's time for the beatmaker to put on his bandleader cap and step out on his own. Wilkis' newest project, 'PRINTS,' is a multimedia [...]
Serge Gainsbourg cut "Requiem pour un Con" in 1968 for Jean Gabin's film Le Pacha (see clip below). Forty years later Casey Dienel, under the nom de tune, White Hinterland, released the Francophone, six song, Luniculaire ep. I've been revisiting the collection for the first time since its release - specifically Hinterland's take on "Requiem." [...]

One of my favourites, Alan Wilkis has recently finished his new project, PRINTS, where for each song, he collaborated with a different vocalist and worked with some incredibly-talented people, including Lyrics Born, Childish Gambino, and White Hinterland. The first single is called "Come and Go", it features The KickDrums and is avaliable for free download here. Now, Alan has released the 360° panoramic music video for "Come and Go." He co-directed the video with David Sosnow, he says of the process "By using the 360° technology, I wanted to create a fully-immersive experience [...]

Next week, White Hinterland is embarking on a solo tour, starting in Manchester at the Ruby Lounge on November 27. The band will be opening for Little Dragon throughout the end of November and early December, culminating in a headline show in London at White Heat at Madame JoJo's. Check out the mystifying video for White Hinterland's 'No Logic', featuring poignant shots of the drummer and singer:

5 Songs is a weekly series where we point out the strange, the grand, and the unique connections between our favorite songs. Let's get weird. Words by Chris Carosi It's a drag to think about love sometimes, and these 5 songs take into account the fragility of love in the form of li'l animals, and use them to expose truths about abandonment, sexual congress, and asphyxiation. You go, girls! [...]
Prints is a series of singles, remixes, and videos that Brooklyn-based Alan Wilkis has been working on for nearly two years. Each "print" features collaborations with different vocalists: Childish Gambino, Lyrics Born, White Hinterland, and more. Wilkis' goal was to draw each artist out of their comfort zone to create a piece of work that is unmatched. His first "print" features The Kickdrums; whom he's co-produced their recent album, Meet Your Ghost . The print takes The Kickdrums sound to new heights and that's what Wilkis is trying to do. He slowed down the track, but it still felt [...]

Seeing as I've always wanted the job of picking music for soundtracks (how do you get that by the way?), I came across a few gems that I wanted to share while watching a couple flicks. White Hinderland - Icarus Maxence Cyrin - Where is My Mind? (Pixies Cover) Richard Hawley - Tonight the Streets are Ours

This song is straight out of a dream. Sit on the patio, burn incense and allow your ears to drink in the generous, let loose tune of White Hinterland (aka homegirl from MA, Casey Dienel). A summer evening to embrace? Yes, lovely listeners. Download: Icarus - White Hinterland

The self-titled album from Sea Oleena emerges delicate and ethereal in its aesthetics, but upon closer listen reveals to be mired in a drunken, anti-dream purgatory. Charlotte Oleena describes the album as "three seasons' worth of endless nights and half-lived days". The opening track 'Southbound' displays a pulsating warble akin to Wilco 's 'I am Trying to Break Your Heart', but gravitates towards unease rather than self-pity. Mrs. Oleena sings: I read the Book of the Dead backwards, and then I made my way to someone with a name-tag for directions to a [...]

I got an email from one of our readers telling me about a site that flat out ripped off the entire EMPT style, I mean we're talking a straight bite here. I have no problem with people borrowing from us but completely stealing our names, concepts and vibe doesn't make any sense to me. EMPT is a complete reflection of me and my friends and I won't sit here and watch pose as us - You gotta see what I've seen, look where I've looked Touch what I've reached, and take what I've [...]

and it could not have come any sooner! finally, my heart has thawed and seattle is slightly warming again. this mix is for a long drive on a cool sunny spring day or maybe just for daydreaming about the blossoming outdoors while stuck in the dismal office. life seems on a general incline, so i picked songs that hit all those über-sexy high notes: this bitch starts out slow, by the end, she is fire....please get absolutely fucking carried away and enjoy!
