![[Introducing] – Frànçois And The Atlas Mountains](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4046525_lg.jpg)
Tweet As the story goes, when Frànçois Marry arrived in Bristol, England from France in 2003, he wrote a note accompanied by a picture asking for people to make music together with, taped it in his window, then proceeded to check out local car boot sales for instruments. Starting out with a hodgepodge of found instruments (including a keyboard he played with his foot), Frànçois began playing live in Bristol in early 2004. 2005 - 2007 saw him collaborating with various local [...]

Like the cartoon wherein a baby wearing a sash inscribed with the current year waves goodbye to a hoary old man whose sash displays the year past, The Small Cities have concerned themselves with new creations during this time following the great annual refresh. Recently, their labors have been in preparation for the release of With Fire , a full length album slated to launch March 3rd, in tandem with a kick-ass release show that is taking place (unfortunately for those of us further east) in the Twin Cities. Amidst the storm of detail work and all around [...]

Neil Thomas Douglas As I understand it, yesterday was Robbie Burns Day and while I may have missed out on my annual tradition of posting something suitably Scottish to mark the day - a tradition I've marked exactly zero times in the past forever years - I'm going to make up for it a little bit by leading with some Scots-related content. Firstly, We Were Promised Jetpacks have finally scheduled a second North American tour in support of last year's In The Pit Of The Stomach [...]

I Wild Beasts ospiti delle Copenhagen Session del sito They Shoot Music They Don't .

![[Listen] Alt-J - "Fitzpleasure"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4004736_lg.jpg)
From their AA sided single Matilda / Fitzpleasure, which will be released courtesy of Infectious Music , comes "Fitzpleasure" from Leeds quartet Alt-J. Don't let the lead in on this song deceive you because the bright vocals quickly blend with a heavy bass fuzz, guitar scratching and percussion that will draw you into focusing on all of the intricacies. The band will be heading out on tour in February with Ghostpoet before joining Wild Beasts on their tour in March. Be on the lookout in May for their debut album. We'll [...]

![[Listen/Download] – SolarSolar – "Albatross" (Wild Beasts Cover)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3991598_lg.jpg)
Tweet Listen to and download SolarSolar 's cover of Wild Beasts ' "Albatross" . As I've said before , one of the bands I am most excited to hear more from this year is SolarSolar . Their album doesn't drop until February, but they've generously sated my thirst in the meantime with a rather lovely little cover of the also-brilliant Wild Beasts ' "Albatross" . It's [...]

SolarSolar - Albatross [Wild Beasts] | od | bx watch the original
I'm still here. It's been tricky finding time for regular updates with the way my life's been scheduled lately, but I'm still here. The normal week-daily posts will return in about a week or so, when I'm back to my old routine and can make the time to start working through the piles that are forming in my inbox. In the meantime, check out SolarSolar 's recently released cover of Wild Beasts ' "Albatross," which repaints the original track in the glitchy, hushed tones that I love so much about this band. It comes in time to [...]

Editor's Note Happy New Year! Some of you are probably wondering what happened to us. Well work, family, and of course organizing our little (not so little anymore) variety show Snob Theater has taken quite a bit of time away from the website. We've had probably the best year so far and I'm happy to announce my favorite records of 2011 to launch the reboot of Kata Rokkar. I don't review albums at all but i do listen to a shitload and it's been a great and surprising year for new music. [...]
Well, 2011. You were quite the year! So much so that I've only been able to recover enough to think about you a full week into 2012. Crazy, huh? New jobs, lots of change, oodles of shenanigans, and yes, lots of good music. So much so, that I undoubtedly missed vast quantities of things that [...]
There was so much really great music that I heard this year, to the point that putting together these lists was quite difficult and time-consuming. But even so, there are still a lot more albums out there that were recommended to me by others that I simply never got the chance to hear, as well as some that I felt needed more listens for me to fully absorb them, so they sadly won't be showing up on here (Danny Brown, Julianna Barwick, The Weeknd, Fucked Up, PJ Harvey, Main Attrakionz, Tune-yards, Yuck…I could go on and on). I'll [...]

Another year, another astonishing array of releases to get you through January to December. But where last year had some very clear cut winners across the board (from the likes of Arcade Fire, Kanye West and LCD Soundsystem), this year has not appeared so obvious. But, better late than never, Hotcakes brings you an eclectic list carefully decided by our five writers. Enjoy! 30. Givers - In Light 29. Balam Acab - Wander / Wonder 28. The Black Keys - El Camino 27. Gui Boratti - III [...]

2011 - irgendwie ein komisches Jahr. Zumindest musikalisch gesehen.
