It'd be nice to have Carrie Brownstein around as a friend. Just ask her Portlandia partner-in-crime, Fred Armisen, who says that their unique friendship together is "all of the things that I’ve ever wanted." No kidding; did you see what she did for his Saturday Night Live send off? That's true BFF material right there. Whether she's behind the guitar or under a grey wig somewhere in Portland, there are many, many, many reasons why we love her. Here are five, courtesy of Consequence of Sound . The one-man band got by with a little help from his friends

Fuzz.
Filed under: News , Movies Astrid Stawiarz, Getty Images Carrie Brownstein 's career has taken her from the Riot Grrrl scene with Sleater-Kinney to "Portlandia" and back to the rock world with Wild Flag , becoming an inspiration to women and men all around the world. She sat down with the producers of " Makers: Women Who Make America ," a PBS and AOL documentary airing tonight. In it, Brownstein discusses [...]

Tonight in Portland I had the super-pleasure of seeing Drew Grow and Janet Weiss perform raucous, airtight covers under their new band name Slang . Both taking a night away from their other music (Drew Grow & The Pastors' Wives are finishing mixing a new album, and Janet is busy with Quasi and Wild Flag ), Slang just radiated joy and fun - two things that I so love in my music, and often miss. This song has long been a favorite of mine, and was one of the covers [...]
For The Key’s year-in-review, we asked our trusted sources – our writers and photographers, XPN’s on-air staff, fellow bloggers in the Philly scene and even a few musicians – to send us their Top Five Whatevers. Could be the traditional music route – albums, songs, concerts of the year – or it could be only ... Continue reading
In case you couldn't tell, we've been having a difficult time dragging ourselves away from Twitter this morning. Since we've already brought you one of the strangest and most unpleasant celebrity reactions to the election, now seems like a good time to celebrate a tweet that lives at the intersection of people we love and things that make us cry tears of joy. Wild Flag guitarist and Portlandia star Carrie Brownstein has a gay dad, and now that Washington has passed same-sex marriage legislation, he's getting married! Seriously, feel free to tear up. We did.

Cast a cursory glance over Rolling Stone's Garnier-subsidised Women Who Rock subsection , and you'll most likely find yourself thoroughly repulsed by the truly bizarre gender bias of it all. Sickening like the taste of saccharine fruit-scented shampoo, it's a way of thinking that appears immediately antiquated in a time quite patently still tormented by the great inequality of the sexes. Grrr. This became pretty apparent when Wild Flag gallivanted into our every thought towards the tail end of last year , only for umpteen a review to reference the band's sex status as being, uh, exclusively female. [...]

Wild Flag played Prospect Park the way a punk band fronted by Carrie Brownstein should. Their self-titled LP is available here .

"The music is made first, and the interviews or photos to keep it alive come later as a necessary evil, I suppose." -Jack White Event: Dirty Projectors at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park (7/10) Photographer: Michael Zonenashvili What Michael Says: "Why not take a great photo of any of the three beautiful girls on stage? Well, there was no light on them, so instead I went for this one of Dave Longstreth's flowing hair." [...]

Wild Flag - Boom Live at Pitchfork Music Festival 2012 Portlandia star and former Sleater-Kinney frontwoman Carrie Brownstein’s Wild Flag performing my album fave Boom from their self titled album of last year.

Earlier this month, Boston postpunk stalwarts Mission Of Burma released their fifth studio album, Unsound via UK label Fire Records . As per usual, it features tape loops and production from Mr. Bob Weston (of Shellac ). The albums continues Mission Of Burma 's record of releasing solid records with great songwriting (just sayin'). Listen. Downloadable: Second Television (mp3) You can purchase a physical copy of Unsound @ insound.com . You can purchase a (discounted) digital version of Unsound [...]

Whether their fans of Carrie Brownstein's comedic turn in the hipster sketch-comedy show Portlandia or they're fans of bands like Sleater-Kinney, Helium, and The Minders of which the bandmembers used to play in, or they're just really into girl-power, people turned up in waves to check out Portland super-group Wild Flag. The band started things off right by opening with a cover of Television's "See No Evil" and then they continued to melt faces with their upbeat and extremely catchy guitar rock. Carrie and Mary Timony both took [...]

No summer storm could quash the fervor that accompanies Pitchfork Music Festival . While the crowd did at times seem abnormally small compared to recent years (especially on Friday), the anticipation running through those who dared to brave the thunderclaps on their bikes on day one, or those who braved crowded CTA busses on day two, or those who hitched a ride in from the suburbs on day three didn't dip a bit. Thanks to the chilly pulses of wind and rain, there were some new fashion trends to add onto your typical face-painted nuts in swimsuits [...]
Thee Oh Sees' John Dwyer called out to Ty Segall a couple of times during his band's show at Pitchfork Music Festival Sunday. Segall was playing across the park on another stage. Later, Segall asked the entire audience to yell Dwyer. The joke is that these guys had to compete with each other even though they largely have the same fan base. If you're a fan of both bands (like me), you had to miss part of one performance. I watched the entire set by Thee Oh Sees and ran across Union [...]
