Jack Tatum's brand of revitalized dream pop continues to be some of the most impressive and innovative music out there. Last year's sophomore album Nocturne was a delicate blend of heartfelt lyrics (see "Only Heather") and homespun ballad (see "Shadow"). It was an excessively pleasant album, and now Tatum is prepping a brand new EP. Empty Estate collects seven tracks that help bridge the gap between Nocturne and whatever is next. And if "Dancing Shell" is any indication, Tatum has been listening to a lot of mid-80's pop. Leaning heavily into the synthesizer patterns [...]
Jack Tatum, bka Wild Nothing’s upcoming EP Empty Estate (May 14th, Captured Tracks) feels like an arrival of sorts. A move from the quieter hum of his earlier work into full-blown pop territory, without losing ... read more

On May 14th, Wild Nothing will follow-up last year's Nocturne with a new EP titled Empty Estate . Recorded by Al Carlson (Clinic, Yeasayer) in New York this past January, the seven-track effort sees frontman Jack Tatum "exploring new sounds, new instruments and a new voice for Wild Nothing." As a first listen, the group has unveiled the video for lead single "A Dancing Shell". Although clip doesn't feature sword impalement , that doesn't make it any less intense. If anything, the barrage of vivid geometric shapes that eventually take humanoid form and start posing [...]

Wild Nothing's video for "Only Heather" was directed by Ryan Reichenfeld and shot in one take. It shows a man walking down the street pretty casually, all while a sword hangs from his chest. Watch the clip below.

Wild Nothing is the nom de plume of Jack Tatum and he released his latest album Nocturne last year via Captured Tracks. The video we have posted below was directed by Ryan Reichenfeld and features "Only Heather", a standout from Wild Nothing's Nocturne . The last one we got for "Paradise" (which starred Michelle Williams) served the song very well. In this new video a very sad, disoriented man walks the streets of L.A. with a sword sticking out of his chest. I'm not too good with "meta-fours" or whatever but [...]

Indie tracks need Indie visuals right? Wild Nothing sure thought so when they brought on director Ryan Reichenfeld for the music video for the band's single Only Heather . Off the album Noctune released in August 2012, Only Heather has a very chill sound, measuring up perfectly to the Wild Nothing's associated genre of dream pop . The music video for Only Heather is a single take dolly shot of a young man stumbling around the streets of LA, oblivious to the fact he has a giant sword [...]

While I'm half bewildered and cannot help feeling bittersweet about just how popular Wild Nothing has become, I just need to get over it, because this music is insanely likable and everyone should love it. ... read more

It's not every day that a Hollywood starlet appears in an indie band's music video, but that's the case for Wild Nothing' s "Paradise" , which stars Michelle Williams ( Dawson's Creek , Brokeback Mountain ). The clip begins with Williams narrating an excerpt from Iris Murdoch's 1975 novel A Word Child , and from there she travels to eye-friendly locales like Los Angeles and Niagara Falls in search of her own version of paradise. Granted, she's a professional, but it's Williams' especially moving and elegant performance that elevates the video to [...]

Our buds The Hood Internet have been working those remixes harder than most people work in general. Over the years we have lost our minds to their awesome interweaving of genres and styles not to mention the occasional back alley blunt. Now they are dropping a 73 this week with Kid Static . There is no question that this is worth picking up. If you live in Chicago, they are having a release party this Saturday at Lincoln Hall with Wallpaper. , DVAS , Kid Color , and Just Desserts .
