Wild Nothing popped into my view at CMJ 2010; Jack Tatum ’s dream-pop project played a lot of shows and then some more during that festival, which made it easy to see them at least once. Jack Tatum's Wild Nothing is back with the follow-up to his 2010 LP Gemini . His sophomore release is titled Nocturne and was recorded by Tatum while living in Savannah, Georgia. "Paradise" demonstrates just what we can expect from the new album. It's an atmospheric, synth-fluffed jam centered on a hazy, rainbow colored melody. Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak is releasing her second 7″ single as part of a series for her Flock of Dimes side project on Merge Records next month. "Curtain" is the single's a-side. Wasner described the lyrics as documenting "the thoughtless, obsessed joy of new love." The tune's heart and soul, however, is it's beautiful, reverb-soaked melody led by a Wurlitzer organ and warped, sparkling guitar glints. It's a slice of gorgeous, obscured pop. Jack Tatum and co are back with a new album this month. Nocturne is apparently based on the lunar cycle, which I find to be a pretty neat idea. I'm hoping for lots of the echoing, synth-laden sound showcased on "Paradise", and I'm sure the boys will not disappoint. The album is out 8/26, check out the link below for tour dates etc. Peace.
