Before we get into Saturday, let's not bury the day's big lede: R. Kelly joined Phoenix on stage to perform his biggest crossover that isn't from the Space Jam soundtrack, "Ignition (Remix)." Not quite the Daft Punk cameo folks rumored, definitely worthy of its own post. Which is here . Earlier in Day 1, in the space I will affectionately call EDM Town - where the electronic music tent is located - it was hard not to feel like we had been transported to another festival. Everything was a little more neon, everyone [...]

Set times for 20132s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival have been announced, and if you're like us at BBLA HQ, you're already mapping out a game plan for whom you want to see. The thing is, every year always presents some conflicts leaving you no choice but to choose one band over another. Conflicts in the desert may vary in degrees from person to person, but here are a few that are causing some hair-pulling ... Friday [...]

Similar to our weekly collection of MP3s , we decided to start ranking each week's best videos. So, from here on out, our favorite weekly videos will be ordered in quality from 10-1. Who reigns champ this week? Grab some popcorn, sit back, and find out. 10. The xx – “I Miss You” (Beyonce Cover) Turns out everybody has Beyoncé on the mind. The clip is standard fair for a live in studio video, but the energy and looks exchanged between Romy Croft and Oliver Sim perfectly encapsulate what makes [...]

I saw a lot of great shows in 2012, from all the great shows in NYC during CMJ, from my trip to Bonnaroo, and my duel visits to Chicago for Lollapalooza/Pitchfork. I saw many bands both big in small in a wide variety of venues, and made many good memories along the way. When it came down to it, these shows were my absolute favorite concert moments of the year: 1. Radiohead @ Bonnaroo (June 8, 2012) 2. My Morning Jacket @ The Capitol Theatre (December [...]
About 200 of you guys participated in our annual readers poll, and the results were tight. You had the chance to vote for 5 albums, and I gave each album a point value, decreasing with each vote. So first place got 5 points, second place got 4, etc... The race was very close between Frank Ocean & Tame Impala, but in the end, Frank Ocean took home the Orange gold. All in all, the taste of you faithful bunch alligns quite well with mine, minus Mumford & Sons. In total, 252!! albums were voted for, which is insane. [...]

If you were wondering where the " Best of " list for Non-Canadian albums of 2012. Here it is. For now I am going to " Best of " list my Top 12 favorite albums that came out in 2012. It might be typical to who will be in the list but at least it will open up a the dialogue on who should or shouldn't be. So check it out! Hope you will agree or disagree 1. Dirty Projectors - Swing [...]

In eighth grade my English teacher assigned the class a research paper on a modern artist. He suggested subjects for us, and said I might like to write about German painter Max Ernst. His reasoning ... read more
We finally launched a redesign! And today's music is in celebration of it. Hope you guys dig the new SOTO. Enjoy. : Thee Oh Sees - Flood's New Light : The heat in Texas has finally reached that point (as it does every year) where I'm just done with it. So, when I say that this track makes we want to get out and have some fun in the summer blaze, then you know it's a good one. Putrifiers II will be released on September 11 via In The Red Records , and then four [...]

Here is this week's music singles chart for the week ending August 12 - 18. It is still a few weeks left before summer is going to end. This week's #1 single goes to UK's The xx. Looks like there is high anticipation when Coexist drops on September 11, 2012. I prefer Chained more than Angels. There are four new debuts from Jens Lekman and Wild Nothing. Check it out! This Week Last Week [...]

"You are the music while the music lasts." -T.S. Eliot Cat Power - "Cherokee" (Nicolas Jaar Remix) “Cherokee”, the second single from Cat Power’ s upcoming LP Sun (September 4th, via Matador) gets a spooky reworking courtesy of producer Nicolas Jaar . By replacing the piano and drums with organs and strings, Jaar shifts the mood entirely, creating spacious ambience. Chan Marshall’s pleas of, “Marry me, marry me to the sky,” are now drenched in reverb. Instead of addressing the listener directly, it [...]

photo by Dave Lichterman Songs from Coexist , the xx 's forthcoming sophomore album, are continuing to trickle out onto the internet, but instead of being unveiled by fan footage, the newest song to be revealed was released by the band themselves. "Chained," the second track on Coexist has yet to be played live, but you can hear it now in a visually enhanced video released by the band this morning. [...]
When The xx formed, they were about the age Chief Keef is now. On a basic level, they're not similar musicians; Keef is a rapper, The xx is a rock band. But both have pushed ... read more
2010 was a fantastic year for music and a very good start to a new decade of it.

Oh what a night. One of my newest favorite songs is Atlas Sound's "Quick Canal." I'm hearing that Deerhunter is taking a break and that is just fine as long as the output is as good as this song. Though the Atlas Sound releases overall are less aggressive than Deerhunter --an element that will be missed. Also this week the new Basement Jaxx made the rounds. My favorite track from it currently is "My Turn." This week Banshee Beat is going to be soundtracking my life. Since coming across this Johnny Disaster mashup [...]
