You've got to hand it to Tim Presley. He can bring a nice psychedelic country number with Darker My Love , then turn around and bang out a noisy little garage rock number on the other hand. As we've mentioned before, Presley's White Fence project is set to release one of two albums for Woodsist on April 3rd titled Family Perfume . And rumors have it that he's also in the works with Ty Segall on a joint project. If he's going [...]
Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars Those of you familiar with Wooden Wand will surely recognize the work of James Jackson Toth, but it's possible that his early project as Golden Calves might have slipped under your radar. Luckily for you, Woodsist has run a small reissue of of his two releases, combining them into one double LP collection. While there's definitely some enjoyable moments on places, many listeners will find the tinkering a bit too much at times, and seemingly [...]
Decent tea-sipping '60s-esque Brit-folk for the beard and sweater set.

When it comes to gut reaction, there are always going to be albums that come out that you know are either going to make your heart sigh, or make you puke blood for as long as it takes to expel their foul stench from your system. Keep it Together , the latest album from The Doozer, achieved neither reaction. This is an album I really wanted to like, and hoped it would make me feel the heart sighing thing. I listened to it again and again and again, looking for that special ingredient. But while it [...]

In 2010 kregen [...]

People want to love Tim Presley for his Darker My Love role, but as we're based in Austin, I'm more a fan of his Strange Boys role. All that aside, dude's also got a pretty nice little solo project called White Fence . This year he'll be releasing a two volume set of tunes, under the title of Family Perfume . The first volume is slated to hit stores on April 3rd through Woodsist [...]

Tweet vaso link Why not create a list that's not limited to albums? Actually, I stole the idea to do a 'Favorites' list from Andy after telling him the struggles of choosing my top 10 albums. Sorry, Andy, but it's a damn fine idea. Perfect for someone so musically indecisive as myself. Instead of having to listen to and rank album after album, I was able to thumb through my mind and rabbit-ear the songs I incessantly repeated, the few [...]

Despite the low-fi label that has been attached to the musical descriptions of both WOODS and Purling Hiss , neither band had anything but high energy and a lively rock 'n roll spirit emanating from them last Saturday when they performed at the Rock & Roll Hotel on H Street. WOODS created their rock 'n roll ambience with more of a classic '60s vibe. Long, delicate tracks created a trance-like state that seemed to borrow from both the sitar days of The Beatles and the "Soul Meets Body" era of Death Cab For Cutie. [...]

[Photos by acidjack] I have wanted to see Royal Baths for over at least a year now, since this site last attempted to cover one of the band's New York shows. Last year's ill-fated attempt was a gig at Monster Island Basement that, let's just say, suffered from some human failings. But I didn't care - the band's debut album on Woodsist Records , Litanies , was one of my absolute favorites of last year. Woozy, dark and catchy as hell, the record sounded perfectly like their hometown of San Francisco, evoking that city's [...]

Everyones favourite psych-folk weirdos Woods have decided to cover one of the truly best Christmas songs of all time (in my humble opinion). The original by the Vince Guaraldi Trio was part of the album A Charlie Brown Christmas - everybody must remember Charlie Brown and Snoopy, right? Anyway, Woods have done a perfectly fitting cover in time for the holiday season. And never have I heard such a grateful Christmas-themed cover in respect for the original(s) since... Weezer 's Christmas with Weezer ? Admittedly, Mayer Hawthorne did [...]
from the woods / kurt vile tour split on woodsist Filed under: mp3 , music stuff Tagged: kurt vile , music , skull , woods , woodsist

Photographs by Nathan J. Haynes On Classic Rock Magazine forums there are such halcyon topics of conversation as "How Long Was Your Hair?", and "Haircuts (Huge Regrets)". For pages, outraged debate ensues reflecting upon the incomprehensible reasons as to why Steve Vai cut off his wavy locks. Will he still be able to even PLAY the guitar?! Will he still be as wild with short hair? It's a bit like when the young impressionable musician decides that his idol's more expensive guitar will make [...]

Run DMT // Dreams Do you know how long I've been waitin for a proper debut from Run DMT ? Last year's free and mediafire-only releases Bong Voyage and Get Ripped or Die Trying had me basically frothing at the mouth. Those releases were like the musical equivalent of a high-speed trip through years of multimedia overload with your eyes taped open. And since that time Run DMT has teased us with hints at more [...]

Releasing one of the year's best LPs in Sun & Shade apparently isn't enough for the ever-prolific Woods. Jeremy Earl and company also put out a 7" in July featuring the single "Find Them Empty" and now have a second 7" available on tour: a 5-song split with Kurt Vile. Check out one of Woods' contributions below: the fuzzy and psychedelic "Skull." If you're a fan of Woods, The Fader ran a great piece on the band's and the Woodsist label's current home-base in Warwick, New York. ( via )

[photo by Maryanne Ventrice ] One of the real joys of seeing live shows is seeing an opening band that just blows you away. That was the case with this opening set from White Fence on a stacked Bowery Ballroom bill led by NYCTaper favorites Woods . White Fence's records are the solo effort Tim Presley, who also does time in the Strange Boys and Darker My Love, so for this show his backing band consisted members of Woods, who handled Presley's material as capably as if it were [...]

[Photo by Maryanne Ventrice ] We caught Woods this summer in the unlikely Northside Festival venue of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church ( that recording here ), but it was an equally special treat to see them play the best-sounding venue in Manhattan, Bowery Ballroom . Although the set hewed fairly closely to what we saw back in June, no two Woods shows are alike, and indeed, the jam-heavy favorites "Bend Beyond" and "I [...]
To simply state that I am excited for this year's Woodsist Fest would be an understatement. I'm beyond excited; I don't even think a word exists in the English dictionary that can describe the sensation. The music is only one aspect of this weekend event. Its the people one meets, the Red Woods, nature, nirvana. In preparation for the second annual fest, I've put together a compilation of the participating artists which can be streamed above.
