The first day of the original Woodstock Festival was August 15, 1969 so next week will mark the 40th Anniversary of the festival. There were reports earlier this year that there was going to be a free festival this summer to celebrate this anniversary but formal announcements never followed. MUSIC NEWS - Jefferson Starship, Levon Helm Band and Country Joe McDonald are among the performers that will appear in Bethel, New York, on August 15, 2009 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original Woodstock Festival, Billboard.biz reports .
