World renowned and Grammy-nominated Deutsche Grammophon recording artist Avi Avital recently linked up with B3SCI on the mean streets of Austin, TX to chat about his musical relationship with the mandolin and to play us a new song. We captured Avi doing what he does best with this unique and special performance at the Bungalow on Rainy St. during mid-day SXSW 2013. Avi really gets into it about half-way through, such an awesome moment. Check it out below... Avi Avital ( Facebook )

"Baobab is the solo project of author / producer Phil Torres. Whitney Trettien and Josh Stohl join Torres for the live shows; together, they loop guitars, synths and electronic beats over live drumming. BAYOHBAHB, the project's second installment, was released through Hand Eye Records early in March 2012 (April 30th for vinyl). BAYOHBAHB, Phil Torres's second full-length, is the work of almost six months spent recording - recording at his home in Durham, as a litter of foster cats romp over cords; in the cool summer cellar of an historic mansion in rural North Carolina, on borrowed mandolins and banjos; [...]
That inscrutable Swedish psychs Goat should return with a single entitled Stonegoat seems to make absolute sense. We've previously become acquainted with Goatman, Goathead and Goatlord alike, though this rare delicacy from the enigmatic Korpilombolo ensemble could only be more appositely entitled were its sleeve to signal prerequisite directions for maximum enjoyment: roll; kindle; toke 'til smoked . Though that may go some way to intimating toward a languid inertia when in fact, quite antithetically, Stonegoat reeks of a giddy, if ever primordial euphoria that's at once both conscious and conspicuously active as squiggly guitars shadow elaborate [...]
Tweet Follow @acidjacknyc [Photos courtesy of P Squared Photography ] The impenetrable Swedish collective Goat became a lot better known in the gap between when PopGun Booking announced their U.S. debut at Glasslands and when the show finally happened - by then at a sold-out Music Hall of Williamsburg . Their first proper release World Music is exactly that - European psych-rock mated to the sounds of the Western Sahara. Shocking Blue [...]

Ritmo Con Ache. In the spirit of culture, fun, and afro-latin dance music, this song by Jose Mangual Jr. is one catchy tune. The rhythm is sensual and slow - encouraging hip swaying and spinning. An occasional trumpet accent juxtaposes nicely with the steady drum back beat. Like all Latin dance music, the song is the epitome of unique styling, combining vocals with a plethora of instruments. It is a song to match the weather - cheery, bright, and inspiring. "Ritmo con ache para que baile mi gente" and here comes summer. [...]

Following on from Redg Weeks' superlative Run To Your Mama redux of a couple weeks back, the In to Weeks' Vada – Geoff Barrow – here clambers up the reverb tower to rework a previously unreleased Anika track entitled Bloodhound. Typically claustrophobic though at that same time a little more loose in contrast with the usual brood, the adopted Berlinerin returns with quintessentially inauspicious lyrics of "They're coming to get you/ They won't stop 'til you're found" which ooze forth from gloopy gusts of echo and fade. Similarly rhythmically, there's an [...]

“I don’t want to bore people to death," declares Koby Israelite. The world is abundantly full of mind-blowing instruments, but one you'll always remember is a Sousaphone . It's related to the tuba and predominantly designed for marching bands, wrapping around the body of the player. It's instrumental hug. What the world is not full of is people like Cosmo Sheldrake - a looper, composer and multi-instrumentalist. And yes, one of those instruments is a sousaphone. Cosmo pieces together a world of influences from Mongolia to West Africa, blues to classical and folk to Balkan brass into an all [...]
