I've recently been led to believe in Southampton FC full-back Luke Shaw being just about the South Coast's most precocious talent though as the dark ambiences of Cholombian here seep into the periphery of attention like a littoral mist, that may be all about to change. For Breathe Slow is a broody work of understated brilliance from the proficient youf – an intense hunk of instrumental hip hop, hemmed in with neat stabs of manipulated guitar and muffled beats which all render it pretty redolent of those more intricate bits on an Edan LP. An arresting one, [...]

One of the breakthrough bands of the year, 2:54 (sisters Hannah and Colette Thurlow ), have been announced as support for The xx on their highly-anticipated US tour in October. They play seven dates together, starting in LA and winding up in Milwaukee, following the release of their self-titled debut album in May on Fat Possum, and after also being personally invited by The xx to support them on their European comeback tour in September. It's been an amazing year for 2:54 so [...]

A nice surprise in the inbox today from Astronauts, etc. , the solo project of Berkeley student Anthony Ferraro. Ferraro turned to electronic music when arthritis prevented him from pursuing a career in classical piano; the result is the Supermelodic Pulp EP (slated for release on Sept. 8th). Each song will feature a sci-fi music video for each of its five tracks, with a loose narrative tying them together. Take a listen, here's "Mystery Colors". For fans of The xx, Bon Iver, Beach House. Sci-fi video below.

New track up from The xx , "Chained" off the upcoming album Coexist (out on Young Turks September 10th / 11th (US)). Pre-order the album here .
Photos by G. I'm having a band crush on The XX right now. The trio from the UK could not have been nicer when I met them recently. I chatted with lead singer Oliver Sim for quite a while about everything from the differences in weather in the UK vs. New York to the success [...]

The Xx , the English indie band from London is out from under the rock they've been hiding and have announced plans for a new album and fall tour. They're unique incredible sound combines emotional melodies over minimalistic sounds. This track " Angels" is the first single off their upcoming record Coexist and comes complete with a very trippy and simple music video. It's almost as if a great film director decided to work with use iTunes visualizer to get his vision across.. Check out the tour dates below for a city by you! [...]

I have kind of a love/hate relationship with music from the xx . I'm a big fan of the groups' signature echoey guitar and I absolutely adore the whispery voice of Romy Madley Croft, but with so many of their songs, I'm teased to think it'll build, ramp up or break out into something bigger. Maybe I'll get used to this one day, as its all not enough to stop me from listening to this band. "Angels" is taken from the xx 's new album Coexist which will be released by Young Turks on September 10th [...]
My new favorite obsession of the year. They're 2:54 and I think I'm going to go and see them in Leeds tonight. What is it about them that enthralls me so? Check this beautiful video: [2:54 - You're Early VIDEO] [2:54 - You're Early] 2:54 are sisters Colette and Hannah Thurlow, joined by Alex and Joel on bass and drums. It's the haunting dual guitars and the seductive vocals that get to me, it's sexy, dangerous and dark at the same time. Vivid, brooding and moody as hell, listening to them conjures up bits and pieces of images from random [...]

From the upcoming (together) EP from Antlers , here's the band doing a dreamy cover of the The xx track "VCR". The EP also features remixes, plus songs performed with Nicole Atkins, Bear In Heaven and Neon Indian. Download "VCR" from Stereogum here .

I waste far too much of my life combing an enormous mass of misinformation for inspiring music, and all too often, when it’s found, it’s been under my nose the whole time. Never has this reality kicked me more forcefully in the balls than when I discovered that art-pop Liverpool band Outfit are actually from Birkenhead, where I willed away the previous hundreds of my years going to school. The entire time, a couple of minutes walk by the feet of an enormously obese (yet genial) man would have taken me to Outfit, who were learning their own chilling strain [...]
