I would beseech you, in interest of your own capacity for living life, to give this album a chance...

While I've been hearing rumblings about an artist called " Birdy " for a while now, until yesterday I had NO idea who she was or even what sort of music she made. Perhaps I was subconsciously confusing her with Birdman , the Cash Money rapper? Whatever the reason, I'm highly embarrassed. I've seriously been missing out on an extraordinary talent. Thankfully and fortunately, Ellen DeGeneres featured the talented singer/songwriter on her daytime talk show yesterday, where she performed her debut single, a hauntingly beautiful [...]

What joy we festival lovers received today! Aye, the line-ups for two of the best festivals of the summer, Sasquatch and Primavera Sound, were released, and are they ever a gift from the festival deities on high. Both are absolutely stuffed with bands that we love and have been geeking out over for months if not years. Sasquatch, one of our favorite line-ups from last year as well, boasts artists that will sound breathtaking in the Gorge. The dreams you have about seeing Bon Iver under the stars and surrounded by landscapes as picturesque [...]

Unless you live under a rock, you know who Birdy is. Her music has been featured in several shows, including the hit show Vampire Diaries . That was the first time I heard her rendition of Bon Iver's, Skinny Lover . Then a few month's later her xx - Shelter cover was featured on the show. Afterward, I could NOT escape the covers and the moody Sophie Mueller translation of the track via the delicious video did not make me forget her at all. [...]

The music world introduces us to new talents with every change of the season. A talent that should most definitely be recognized is the sound of Jasmine Van Der Bogaerde, or Birdy to her fans. Born and raised in Lymington, England, Birdy was raised in a family of musicians. Her mother was a concert pianist so she took up the piano at the age of six and began writing her own music a year later. After winning the UK open mic in 2008 the 15 year old musician became a youtube phenomenon with her breath-taking cover of [...]
Arguably one of the greatest compilations of music ever created, (I will argue this) ‘Somebody’s Porridge’ is the first instalment of what hopes to be a long-running series of curated playlists. Seventy-seven tracks (numerical symmetry really does it for me) smeared far and wide across the aural spectrum; you’d be hard-pressed to find a more eclectic selection. Several of the tracks have never had a formal release, a few are made by friends of mine, some are classics and a bunch are just plain old fashioned face-melters. All of them are outstanding tracks that I’ve spent [...]

The blogosphere was set ablaze a few days ago stemming from news of one of the bigger collaborations in the indie scene of recent. Following their chance meeting at the Austin, TX music extravaganza SXSW , minimal producer James Blake and Wisconsin crooner Justin Vernon decided to work together and have previewed the culmination of the upcoming October release of Enough Thunder . Listen to the auto-tune heavy track that's causing the spontaneous combustion of ironically bearded hipster heads everywhere below.

James Blake & Bon Iver have just put out a new track together. "Wait, what? Did I just read that right?" Yes, yes you did. While this may not be as epic as the recent Kanye/Jay-Z collab in the opinion of some (it is) you can bet its making [...]
Moving Mondays is back with Birdy's new single - a cover of The xx's 'Shelter'. At only 15 years old, she shot to fame earlier this year with her cover of 'Skinny Love' by Bon Iver and now it looks like she's here to stay. And with a voice as good as hers, she's more than welcome.
The soulful songstress Birdy aka Jasmine Van den Bogaerde has recorded a cover of The XX's 'Shelter’ which is due for release in early July. The rawness of this track mixed with the haunting piano is an impressive interpretation of the original and showcases her vocals and delivery style which appears to far exceed her tender age of 15. A first impression is a lasting impression. At least that is the conventional wisdom. And I'd argue that whatever wisdom lay in that theory with regard to social interactions applies equally to a listener's interaction with music. If you have a negative reaction (i.e. boredom, indifference, or outright dislike) to the first song you hear by a band, it can be very difficult to overcome that first impression. And although people are listening to music as "albums" less and less frequently, an album's opening track is nonetheless often a band's first opportunity to connect with a listener. Additionally, opening tracks [...]

Every year, I seem to always get into a kind of post-new year rut after all the excitement settles - I still write last year's date on papers, make resolutions I forget about at the first sign of real stress, and am effectively comatose after digesting the binge of music, movies, people that seem to come from all directions with the conclusion of every year. It's not until something comes along, as it always does, that doesn't already have a context, that's not associated with any year but the present, that i start to really settle into the new year. [...]
Time to drop an enormous payload of New Music on you. With no further ado, in alphabetical order, here's what you need to be aware of... Minnesotan MC Slug is back with his increasingly freeform band, Atmosphere. I am not sure this is a good thing, as he seems to have peaked years ago with his [Read Full Post...]

*MP3 : The xx - “Basic Space” *MP3: Bon Iver - “Flume” Times of great upheaval are also often times of great introspection. The current economic recession has forced people in many sectors and industries to rethink how they do things, on the cusp of an age when environmental factors are beginning to force us to change the very way we live our lives. None of this [...]

25 days left to go until SXSW. Not that I'm counting or anything... Big show coming up this week - Muse and Silversun Pickups at Gwinnett Arena which I'm beyond excited for. I'm just hoping that Muse plays more of their back catalog because, let's face it, their newest album sucks big donkey dick. There I said it. And I feel better for it. As for this week's offering, I happen to think that "Black Cab Sessions" are AWESOME!!! Aaaaaaaaand I just tested it and I only have permission to post the Bon Iver. My [...]
