Jamie Smith, better known to you and me as Jamie xx , released his debut album today: a compete remix of Gil Scott-Heron's 2010 album I'm New Here . The re-fixed version, We're New Here , is a journey through the minds of two people separated not only by age - 39 years to be precise - but stylistically too. Gil, a modern jazz and blues legend; Jamie, one of the best young electronic producers around . The pair have only met briefly and have exchanged thoughts [...]

Happy Valentine's Day. Deal with it. It's not the time to wallow about being alone if your single, it's the time of year to appreciate love in all it's forms, from all it's people. Eat a heart-shaped cookie today, give a friend a hug, or a loved one a kiss, and enjoy the love. And here is a mix about hearts skipping beats. I hope yours finds a reason to skip a beat today too. "Allo Darlin' - My Heart is a Drummer" "The XX - Heart Skipped A Beat" [...]

Here's a little something from BBC Radio's "Live Lounge". It is a cover of The xx's "Crystalised", which is one of my favorite songs from them already. I am a diehard Gorillaz fan and have been for quite some time, so it's no surprise that I love this track. I will scrape up an audio file soon and get it up for your enjoyment, but still being in Mexico, I have absolutely no bandwidth to go find/rip anything right now. Enjoy.

Star Guitar are a new Belgium duo, who can only really be compared to a couple of acts, the first the Twelves and secondly Aeroplane - why I hear you ask? Well, first of all they are looking like the next act to be labelled as remixers du jour, similar to Aeroplane, and secondly they have a remixing style very much like The Twelves - taking tracks that aren't dance tracks and bring them to the dance floor with skilful savvy production. They're part of the same French label Paranoiak, who look after the fantastic Irish Steph, who [...]

Robotic Pirate Monkey is composed of three fellow Boulderites Matt Berryhill, Matt Flesher and Andrew Hathaway. You may remember me posting their remix of Jordan Corey's "Breaking All The Rules" or their remixes of Modest Mouse and Trouble Andrew. If you like those, I have some good news for you. They just recently released their debut EP for FREE. It includes four brand new originals and six remixes that you may or may not have heard before. The whole album is sick but the four below are my favorites excluding the [...]

We were already amped about the massive line-up for Øya Festival in Norway, but after seeing the list of artists scheduled to perform at Nighttime Øya, our anticipation has gone through the roof. Øya has teamed up with some of the best clubs in Oslo to keep the music going after the park closes at 11 PM. Diplo, Caribou, Four Tet, Jamie XX are among those who will illuminate the nightlife scene in the nation's capital each night after the festival. As for the festival itself, Yeasayer, Die Antwood, and the Flaming Lips have been added [...]

For the first time, EF had a correspondent entrenched in the manic heat of Bonnaroo to report back on the highs and lows of this rural Tennessee institution. Here, contributor Laurie Kamens considers the most over and underrated acts from this year's festival. Billed as a modern-day Woodstock, over 100 bands played this past weekend (June 10-13) in Manchester, TN at the 9th annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The Tennessee farm was packed with over 150,000 heat exhausted hippies, hipsters and frat boys for four days of music, mud, comedy and body odor. [...]
At long last, Letters have no Arms is pleased to present you with our official look back on Primavera Sound 2010. What were our highs? Our lows? Our favourite food? Scroll down, where all will be revealed! The 2010 edition of Primavera Sound marked the ten-year anniversary of the festival, and to honour this special occasion, the organisation asked forum users to list their favourite bands over the years, which the organisers promised to subsequently do their very best to book. They were relatively successful in this pursuit. Below is the group of bands that reached the [...]

I don’t know where to start. This time last week I was a sweaty mess of half wrecked excitement somewhere in the centre of Barcelona. Now I’m sitting with the sniffles alone in my bedroom trying to figure out how to consolidate one of the best festivals of my life into a word count below that of the Oxford English Dictionary. I arrived at Bristol airport at 5am on Wednesday after about three hours of sleep on my friend Sophie’s sofa. I got in the boarding queue early so I could get a window seat, all for the [...]

Wow, where do I even start? The whole weekend is just a complete blur now. I'm going to need the whole day to just sit here and unwind. It was amazing, hot, cold, uncomfortable, rainy, sunny, expensive and yet somehow still totally worth every penny. Saturday -A few hundred people have arrived and the mood is one of general relaxing for one of the first acts, Shabazz Palaces. I missed Dawes, so I don't know how that went. I strayed from the main stage a little bit, but they have a pretty [...]

Iggy Pop ^ Photography credits: ^ = Leah Pritchard * = Ama Chana Friday Having left Glasgow at a ridiculously early hour to ensure prompt arrival at ‘My First ATP’ (Early Learning Centre™), it is more than slightly disappointing to encounter traffic issues on the M5 and miss Broadcast entirely and only just catch the closing chords of Built to Spill . Cold Cave ’s is the first full set we see, in the dark, mid-sized [...]

When The Line Of Best Fit asked me to write a blog from ATP I agreed instantly. All Tomorrow’s Parties is one of the highlights of my year. It’s basically just a chance to get really drunk, go on some waterslides and watch loads of amazing bands with your friends, maybe not in that order. So when my editor told me this blog didn’t need to be done until after the festival I was even happier. Who wants to be running around looking for wifi when bands like Boredoms, Iggy, and Ponytail are playing? Exactly. The only problem [...]

The summer just got a little more exciting. The initial line-up for Oslo's annual Øya Festival is so huge, there's no way we can pass this one up. Robyn, M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem, Miike Snow, Major Lazer, The xx and Raekwon are just some of the artists on the initial line-up, along with several local Norwegian acts. With both Diplo (Major Lazer) and Robyn on the bill, we're hoping that their recent studio collaboration will manifest itself onstage. The five-day festival will be held from August 10-14 in Middelalderparken, a picturesque medieval park surrounded by sandy beaches, the Oslo [...]
If you're in Sydney then no doubt you'll know Purple Sneakers. I think next time I'm up there I'm gonna get to one of their nights. My cousin says it's pretty rad, so should probably give it a shot. But, as I read the promo email properly, I see that they're planning on doing some [...]

Over time hit songs seem to be recycled by anyone and everyone in the form of a cover. Some butcher a brilliant track, while others have the uncanny knack of 'making it their own' (apologies for borrowing an overused Australian Idol cliché). We've decided to pick out a few of the lesser known covers, or perhaps songs you didn't even know were covers in the first place! You've Got The Love Original: The Source Ft. Candi Staton - You've Got [...]
