There's something about the combination of x's and y's in a name. First we had The xx (and Jamie xx, of course), then xxxy, and now xxyyxx. The precedent set is a high one, but fortunately [...]

I tried to get this online yesterday when it dropped but ran out of time before my gig, but today is the perfect day to sit back and enjoy the new Essential Mix from Jamie XX . Jamie has quickly established himself as one of the best producer/DJs at the moment coming out of his band The XX and smashing the game. Getting the chance to create a mix for the legendary BBC Radio 1 Essential mix series would be and huge thing [...]

After releasing the wildly successful single "Far Nearer" and his Gil Scott Heron remix project I'm New Here earlier this year, it's already been a pretty great year for Jamie XX's solo career, which sees him stepping away from his main outfit The XX to pursue garage and dubstep-inspired electronic music. He's already recorded two excellent DJ mixes for the BBC this year as well (for Benji B and Radio 6), but this weekend the spotlight is on his 2 hour long Essential Mix, a series which has played host to a number of highly influential producers over [...]

The blogosphere was set ablaze a few days ago stemming from news of one of the bigger collaborations in the indie scene of recent. Following their chance meeting at the Austin, TX music extravaganza SXSW , minimal producer James Blake and Wisconsin crooner Justin Vernon decided to work together and have previewed the culmination of the upcoming October release of Enough Thunder . Listen to the auto-tune heavy track that's causing the spontaneous combustion of ironically bearded hipster heads everywhere below.

Part two of Coco's experiences at Field Day 2011... (Part 1 is here. ) Time was tight as I had to rush to Jamie xx ’s set, I had less than 10 minutes to do so. And with no surprises at all, I found myself lost in Victoria Park again. Fortunately, I did end up at the right stage for Jamie xx. Whoa. It was a DJ set from him and people danced like wild animals - not joking. There was a man who [...]

I came across a track from this new 2011 LP on a MOG mix done by David Byrne, which was quite eclectic and enjoyable. It peaked my interest enough to pick up the full album, and upon further listening, I'm really glad I did. For those of you that don't already know (like me), Gil-Scott Heron was a soul/jazz/spoken word artist coming up in the 70s. He recorded an album last year titled I'm New Here. This album is a completed reworked/remixed version of that album done by Jamie Smith aka Jamie xx from the indie group XX, who I [...]
Ah summer time! Debating whether to get out of the sun for a few minutes to go get an ice cold beer because your just too ruddy comfortable. Your friends are all together in a summer oak meadow with a pair of speakers, a swimming lake and a sniff in the air that you might [...]

Jamie xx has dropped a video teaser for his solo track titled " Structures ".

Click image for more artist information Sounds like: Jamie xx, Crystal Castles "The xx - Untitled New Track" What's so good? This track just emerged on my Tumblr dashboard labelled as a new track by The xx. After playing it, I think it probably is more than an elaborate hoax. Although we have no idea where this came from, or what exactly it [...]
The xx : (not so… new song) - Snippet J’ai de la chance d’avoir de si bon lecteurs. Ce n’est donc pas un titre si nouveau de The xx. Merci Avalonjade et désolé… I’m blessed for having such good readers. So this is not such a new track from The xx. Thanks Avalonjade and apology…
Haunting new music from Jamie xx, a drunk-dialing slow burner from Drake & a new mashup combining Nina Simone and Rihanna with a track from the Beastie Boys' latest.

Unfortunately, there won't be a Jamie/Gil follow-up to this year's We're New Here . Heron's untimely passing ensures that the collaborative effort remained a one-time deal. Still, the London lad is still keeping the Internet aflame with finely finished, bouncing club jams such as his recent drop, "Beat For." For those familiar with his BBC1 "Colette" mix, "Beat For" takes a section of that mix and grants it a solo, mastered 5:46 run time. The eerie electronic effects shimmy in and out of the song, as Jamie's trademark bass lurks deep in the song's heart. Cymbals [...]
It's been a while since we last played the world's best and most likely only game involving a music blog aggregator's search function, Hypem Hunting. In fact, I think it's been about a month, which is pretty bad considering I was doing them weekly for a while. But alas, here we are again. This week's theme is "far", mainly because that was this week's fairly common word that I picked. Here are the songs that I found. Now, normally I say that the beauty of this is that I find songs that I probably [...]

Nowadays, every hipster musician is a remixer. And none more so than Jamie Smith. Starting his speedy ascent to success by way of a Mercury Prize with band The xx , Jamie quickly replaced his surname with the 'xx' identity and gave birth to a moniker now synonymous with remixing. His interpretations of Gil Scott-Heron 's I'm New Here material garnered some pretty high-profile praise, and now he's back with a steel-drum driven 123. Have a listen below: 'Far Nearer' re-interprets the vocal phrase of [...]
