The first two minutes are incredible.
Recently named One To Watch Mikky Ekko recently stopped by Annie Mac 's BBC Radio 1 show to perform a cover of The xx 's "Chained" , as well as a live version of one of our new favorite tracks, "Pull Me Down" . The Clams Casino cohort turned the once lush, vocally-layered track into a sparse, soulful number that sounds more Miguel than xx . Here, Mr. [...]
If one were to humanize the music of Jamie xx and then describe her character, one may be inclined to say "affable". After releasing Coexist as a member of The XX in 2012, he returns with a rework of "Sunset", a highlight from the album. The man turns a mellow burner into a groovy bouncer, all while keeping to the original script. Who knew two edits of the same song could be so enjoyable? Amen brother.
The xx - Sunset ( Jamie xx Edit) [ mp3 iTunes free download] This is the perfect way to start the year.
The xx's Coexist was oftentimes a furious listen for some xx converts. True, we nominated the album as one of the other LPs you should have listened to last year-and, [...] The post The xx - "Sunset (Jamie xx Edit)" appeared first on The Smoking Section .
Jamie xx remixed Sunset by The xx. For the next 72 hours you can get it for free as part of iTunes' 12 Days of Christmas here: http://bit.ly/thexxmasEP iTunes: Coexist - The xx
Jamie xx already produced the xx's "Sunset," the most dance-informed song on his band's 2012 sophomore album Coexist . But now he's gone and remixed his own track, turning up the thump and converting it into a six-minute floor-filler, albeit one with a ton of negative space. It's a great example of a remix that keep's the song's original allure intact while adding plenty of propulsion. Listen below. Read More...
Happy Thursday! Here's a new version of "Sunset" remixed by none other than Jamie xx, who felt the need to supply his personal touch on the stellar track off The [...]
Felicidades!
While I waited for The XX's Coexist to match the minimalist thrills of their debut album, and as I pondered why I still lifted my skinny fists to Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend despite its (glorious) predictableness, I discovered an album that struck a darker and colder atmosphere than the former, with all the devastating inclinations of the latter: Raime's Quarter Turns Over a Living Line is a tense, terrifying excursion of brutal ardour, casting a post-industrial gloom over much of anything I've been listening to this year. [...]
Funkagenda drops a nice remix for fans, wishing them a Merry Christmas. The xx is known for making slow and melodic tracks that have the tendency to get picked up by producers and morphed into dance floor worthy jams. Funkagenda takes "Fiction," and injects some electric energy into the track. Download: The XX - Fiction (Funkagenda Bootleg Re-Edit)
When we posted our 10 Best Indie Christmas Songs we limited our list to yuletide jamz that actually exist. Animal New York took a different tack, imagining what holiday songs would sound like if they were covered by folks like Bon Iver, the xx, Wavves, Beach House, Das Racist, and others. (Adam Horne of Bear Ceuse is responsible for the impressions.) The faux collection is called Merry Indie X-Mas and it's pretty amusing. Watch a satirical commercial for it and stream the tunes below.
For those of you who aren't HUGE fans of all that authentic Christmas music, or maybe it just gets old by the time Christmas actually arrives...this one definitely focuses on the electronic aspect applied. It's the xxMAS Rework by TABS of The xx's original rendition of Last Christmas . The xx's version is just a little bit too "Christmassy" for me. I'm one of those who grows tired of Christmas music early. Sorry, not sorry. Either way this is a refreshing rendition to a Christmas classic. If it doesn't get you [...]
The release of ardently anticipated Coexist in the albeit fading shadow of xx, the xx’s second album, garnered doubt as to whether the duo turned trio could produce an album to even contend with the critically acclaimed and almost universally popular debut album. Perhaps the departure from darker sounds should’ve been expected, but the characteristic style of the xx prevails and shines in its hauntingly, almost transcendental beauty. The lighter, ethereal marriage of melodies in Coexist not only manages to appeal to fans of the more arcane xx, but also intimate the [...]
Versión del clásico villancico de Wham! Last Christmas realizada en el Live Lounge de Radio 1 (BBC) por The xx .
With The xx once again scaling the dizzying heights of most critics Best of Year lists for their second album, Coexist , the London three-piece hardly needed to give us much more, yet along with a visit to Radio 12s Live Lounge today, the group have put their take on Wham!'s Christmas classic up for free download. It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from The xx covering Wham! I.e all the frivilous campness is replaced by brooding intenstity and scowls. Cheer up chums, Christmas is just around the corner.
It's no secret that you don't need to be layering your music with a million different sounds and instruments to make it have a unique sound. The xx are a perfect example of this, and fittingly, new kids on the block London Grammar are espousing the same sort of vibe as The xx : minimalist, atmospheric, subdued pop. The trio's debut track "Hey Now" appeared last week, sparse, cold, and reflective, dripping in Hannah's foggy vocals and begging for you to take it [...]
Ohmyxx. The xx are clearly in the holiday spirit of giving because today they are giving us so much. First, the band did a cover of my FAVORITE Christmas song ever, "Last Christmas," by Wham! While my longtime favorite version of this has been the Jimmy Eat World cover (and I swear not just because it was on the O.C. Chrismukkah Soundtrack...), I think even 20-something Seth Cohen would approve of this new version. ALSO, The xx released a three-part documentary featuring some performances and some behind the scenes glimpses. Directed by Jamie-James [...]
