Enough time has passed now from when I was receiving a remix of The xx every bloody day (that's how I missed the superb Matthew Dear remix - brain overload - hear below). But you can't say no to a Four Tet remix and here, he turns the song into a typical (by his standards) nine-minute jam. This is the proper version uploaded by Hebden himself - this ain't no radio rip. The xx - VCR (Four Tet Remix) [...]

Time to drop an enormous payload of New Music on you. With no further ado, in alphabetical order, here's what you need to be aware of... Minnesotan MC Slug is back with his increasingly freeform band, Atmosphere. I am not sure this is a good thing, as he seems to have peaked years ago with his [Read Full Post...]

Warpaint's vaguely tribal, sublimely smoldering post-rock has mesmerized plenty of fans the past year — especially, it seems, guys who sample the all-female quartet's wares for the eye candy and walk away under some sort of magical spell. The foursome's recent set at FYF Fest certified that Warpaint has it down, and everything else is falling into place. Their debut "The Fool" comes out Oct. 25 on Rough Trade, and the band is joining Mercury Prize winners The xx on tour. Here's your chill pill: ||| Download: "Undertow" [...]
Hey all - sorry about the silence, my last post ought to explain it. On with the show... Sexion D'Assaut - Désolé ( mp3 ) On this popped in H&M. Out came my Shazam app. Did it work? Did it fuck - the bastard just 'searched' for ages, then finally admitted its miserable, pathetic failure. I swore a lot (hard to believe, I know), sulked, and then typed in a guessed translation of the only lyric I remembered. And Safari came up trumps where Shazam failed. Well done Safari. Go fuck [...]

Thoughts on New Music by Nick Parker Upcoming Show: The Orpheum Boston 10/3/10 onsale now In an age of furious punk and industrial rock and roller’s ranging from Titus Andronicus (appearing in Boston tonight ) to Sleigh Bells , London’s The XX [...]
The xx might be one of the most remixed bands in history. At least the most with only one album under their belt. But what an album. it has soundtracked everything: the British general election, the World Cup, festival coverage, and so much more. And here we have a remix [Read more]
New Music | The xx | Dark Sky Like Florence, The xx are incredibly annoying. Sorry guys, but really. However, thanks to Dark Sky I literally couldn't resist this remix. Full on garage style, 2 step to the beat now. I said now.

What happens when one of your favorite bands covers one of your least favorite bands? It's a question I never thought I'd have to answer, save for the occasional ironic cover of some Top 40 hit makes. This week though Brooklyn's The Antlers decided to cover minimal buzz band of the moment The xx , and I was forced to face on of my favorite bands doing their artistic best to do an earnest cover of one of my least favorite. In their take on "VCR", The [...]

Much like Danger Mouse's critically acclaimed break through mash-up of The Beatles White Album and Jay-Z's Black Album to create the Grey Album, Wait What has attempted a similar feat by bringing together two unlikely, though strangely complimentary, sources. The xx and Notorious BIG have been smashed together to form the Notorious xx. While not on the same level as Danger Mouse's serious deconstruction, Wait What has provided a new take on an xx album which has already be re-worked by countless others. Here's what Wait What had [...]

San Francisco-based DJ/Producer, Wait What finds ways of infusing the vocals of the Notorious B.I.G (among others) with mood driven melodies of the XX, resulting in a surprisingly pleasant mix. For that reason, this one goes into the brilliant pile. Released on March 25th, the album commemorates the thirteenth anniversary of Life After Death ’s release. Alfie MacGibbon aka Graphics, is an up and coming dubstep dj/producer hailing from oxford. We’re always looking for new producers who show potential in their music and this 17 year old boy definitely is! Graphics’ sounds are very unique, producing bass driven experimental dub tunes, with some very obvious electro sounds creeping through. He’s already stirring some hype up through blogs and is one to watch in 2010. First up, we have Graphic’s remix of The XX ’s track, one of my favourite dubstep tracks I’ve heard in a while He gives the song a completely new [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , New Music , Exclusive Fans of U.K. electro-pop act Hot Chip can attest that their live show is something of a majestic experience. Swirling lights, climatic crescendos and the band's willingness to mess with their own arrangements typically make for a memorable experience. While many bands' live albums come out as a way to make some cash, other acts, as in Hot Chip's case, release the concert experience because the fans are hungry for it. "A lot of people say [...]
Miss me? I yearned for you and some new music news, but the extended 3-day break from the site (and life, in general) was warmly welcomed on these tired bones. Up and at 'em! Beaston-faves, The Fire and Reason [...]
Starting the work week off on a Tuesday should be a practice instituted forever. It makes for miles of smiles knowing that there's no case of the Mondays here in Beastonia. Just because we lost a day, doesn't mean we skip a bea [s] t. And on we roll... Major Lazer [...]
Sorry this is a bit late...but for once, I decided to sleep in (all the way til 7am!) and then it was straight to work for a 2 hour meeting. But hey, our slight delays don't downgrade the level of radness we've got below. So here we go,...it's not breakfast, it's brunch. Either way, I'm starving for food and new tunes, so let's get rolling. [...]

We've posted The xx often the past few months and it's no secret we're big fans. I'm eager to see what the band has in store in 2010 and hopeful they can maintain the high bar they set with their debut. As we await their tentative next footsteps, I'm going to share what will probably be our last mention of the XX until their next release. I've been preferring edits lately over remixes. By nature the execution is much more subtle, focusing on adding to, rather than completely reworking, an original. Skinny Friedman of [...]

Filed under: New Music , Music Appreciation The XX may be the 'it' band of the blog-reading set, but they are also huge fans of a more mainstream 'it' girl: Beyonce . "I think she's one of the most exciting performers of our generation," vocalist/bassist Oliver Sim tells Spinner, echoing recent statements from fellow indie acts Arctic Monkeys and Of Montreal. "I went to see her in concert in May, and she is an amazing performer with an amazing voice. It's gotten to a [...]
This has been a difficult year for music in Chicago. Electronic music particularly took a hit with Sonotheque closing it's doors and the recent announcement that Lava Lounge would transition from a DJ-centric venue into a cocktail lounge in the new year. Nightlife by and large felt at a standstill and I personally chose to spend the year away from the club lights, checking out touring acts and the annual music festivals. I reviewed many of the shows you'll find mentioned below for Chicagoist and I've included links to the full reviews where applicable. [...]
