Okay, we think we've made it clear in the past that we are big fans of Mikey Perry . We've talked about his shows with Surecut Kids , and we've talked about his mixtapes, remixes and releases under his solo guise, PACES . So let's just cut to the chase on this one? No BS. 'The Pact' features the uber-talented Melbourne songstress Chela , you may know her from her vocals in that Clubfeet track you love, and is a ballad for the bass [...]

Sydney producer extraordinaire FRAMES joins us for this week's 'SOUNDCLOUD WRAP'; a now regular series on PURPLE SNEAKERS which sees our friends, tastemakers, bands and producers walk you through 10 clips that they're currently obsessed with. Our subject for this week has been a busy boy lately, his new single 'Slow' drops worldwide on May 31st after having been premiered on triple j by WHAT SO NOT in their May 18 exclusive mix. FRAMES describes the track: "It's [...]
Of course it makes sense for a country with a climate as unrelentingly bleak as that of Sweden to pump out music ever entrenched in the key of melancholy. And by that same logic, it makes lucid sense for bands from Stockholm and the surrounding areas to favour the sunless stylisation of, say, dark-wave . As such – yup, you guessed it – may we introduce you to the grim disposition of Nordic four-piece Fun Control , and their forbidding début track, Trickle-down Effect. Vocally redolent of Dave Gahan, lyrics of pistol barrels pointed right between the eyes – [...]
Bit by bit; piece by piece; blog post by blog post, we're getting a pretty transparent picturing of Kisses' unimpeachably sprightly sophomore recording, Kids in LA . First came The Hardest Part ; then Huddle and now, as the anticipation hots up over their imminently Cascine-released endeavours, the duo comprising Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson turn us onto Air Conditioning. Perhaps the most progressive of the three unveiled thus far, there's an icy, unmistakably '80s electropop aesthetic palpitating away at its core as Kivel impersonates an unprecedentedly jovial Oliver Sim atop a glacial backdrop composed of [...]

I've recently been led to believe in Southampton FC full-back Luke Shaw being just about the South Coast's most precocious talent though as the dark ambiences of Cholombian here seep into the periphery of attention like a littoral mist, that may be all about to change. For Breathe Slow is a broody work of understated brilliance from the proficient youf – an intense hunk of instrumental hip hop, hemmed in with neat stabs of manipulated guitar and muffled beats which all render it pretty redolent of those more intricate bits on an Edan LP. An arresting one, [...]

The release of ardently anticipated Coexist in the albeit fading shadow of xx, the xx’s second album, garnered doubt as to whether the duo turned trio could produce an album to even contend with the critically acclaimed and almost universally popular debut album. Perhaps the departure from darker sounds should’ve been expected, but the characteristic style of the xx prevails and shines in its hauntingly, almost transcendental beauty. The lighter, ethereal marriage of melodies in Coexist not only manages to appeal to fans of the more arcane xx, but also intimate the [...]

With The xx once again scaling the dizzying heights of most critics Best of Year lists for their second album, Coexist , the London three-piece hardly needed to give us much more, yet along with a visit to Radio 12s Live Lounge today, the group have put their take on Wham!'s Christmas classic up for free download. It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from The xx covering Wham! I.e all the frivilous campness is replaced by brooding intenstity and scowls. Cheer up chums, Christmas is just around the corner.
A little over a year ago, I discovered a diamond in the rough that is Soundcloud. Hailing from British Columbia and producing under the name Ianborg, I had to know more! I quickly latched on to his soundcloud feed like a 15 year old groupie for the Beatles, and was never disappointed; each track progressing [...]

La semana pasada esta fue la carne que pusimos en el asador en nuestro tercer Neon State de esta segunda temporada. Carne de picaña, exquisita, en su punto, con mostacita [....]

"The purpose and creativity behind every song is so apparent, Coexist becomes infectiously appealing..." The xx | Coexist From the same school that produced Hot Chip, Burial, Four Tet, and Xan Tyler, but denying its influence, The xx seem to have been shrouded in an undeniable sense of nonchalant cool since their conception in 2008. Their debut album, xx , was received with unprecedented acclaim – everyone trying to get in on the glamour of their quietly sexy sound. Yet, true to their creatively independent nature, The xx made us wait – quite [...]

The trio's second album is set for release on Monday (September 10). The London band will celebrate the album's release with a trio of intimate UK shows this month. The xx's second album Coexist is only a few weeks away, which means it's about time they drip-fed us another little slice of it. You know, incase we weren't already excited enough. We've already heard 'Chained', and 'Angels', and 'Sunset' isn't a huge departure from either of those tracks or the generally accepted xx template either. But rarely does a band seem so sure of what it is their songs should sound like without ever dropping the standard below jaw dropping. Coexist is shaping up to be one of the albums [...]

We're not technically sure when it's ok to describe anticipation for The xx's upcoming record as 'fever pitch', but by hum we're going to start doing it right about.......now. So, with anticipation reaching fever pitch the pesky trio have only gone and let us suckle at another of Coexist 's swollen teets. Woah. This post is getting pretty weird huh? In this ditty the singer of the song sings about missing someone. "We used to be closer than this" sings the singer, presumably imagining a person or a close pet whilst doing so. [...]
