With The xx once again scaling the dizzying heights of most critics Best of Year lists for their second album, Coexist , the London three-piece hardly needed to give us much more, yet along with a visit to Radio 12s Live Lounge today, the group have put their take on Wham!'s Christmas classic up for free download. It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from The xx covering Wham! I.e all the frivilous campness is replaced by brooding intenstity and scowls. The xx 's sound is already pretty stripped down as it is, but the minimalist stylings of the UK outfit were stripped down even further when they dropped by Dermot O'Leary's BBC Radio 2 show. Four Tet made sure to bombard his Twitter account a few days with reminders that his remix of The xx 's "Angels" would be debuting on Huw Stephens' BBC Radio 1 show, and now you can hear what the UK producer was so excited about. As the man himself gave us a heads up on Twitter earlier, BBC Radio 1 just aired a fabulous remix that Four Tet did of the xx's "Angels". We all know how beautiful that original composition is, but the master of remixes has added his own delicate touch.
