Brooklyn's Yeasayer returns this week with Fragrant World , the band's third studio album and highly anticipated follow-up to 2010?s Odd Blood. Recently, Consequence of Sound’s Len Comaratta caught up with guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist Anand Wilder to discuss the latest album, the online blogosphere, a hypothetical alley way fight with Animal Collective, and more. You said, "On the first album, we were picking these grand themes, and on Odd Blood , we weren't afraid to talk about feelings and what makes us sad." So, what’s going on with your latest [...]
Anaand Wilder is a sharp conversationalist and the lead guitarist for Yeasayer , who are currently on tour in support of their next album, Fragrant World , due out August 21. I caught up with him on a Thursday evening, when he was in Lower Manhattan, “avoiding getting on a subway” for of the interview. Despite being between places, he fielded my far-flung questions without hesitation, willingly answering questions at length, going a bit overtime, for the sake of my annoying curiosity. His thoughts on Yeasayer’s genre and artistic goals, staying relevant and socially-conscious music all lie below. [...]

Ealier today, Yeasayer came out with the following: "HEADING: PSCYVOTV FROM: YEASAYER DATE: 9:24am. Aug. 1. 2012 We have received a message that we are on the verge of embargoed information being leaked through the cracks of the digital universe. Once again an attempt to tell the story before our mouths can spit. In order to have the edge we have created PSCYVOTV standing for PREEMPTIVE SELF-COMMISSIONED YEASAYER VORSTELLUNG or TRACK VISUALIZER. [...]
Instead of merely handing their new album out to NPR, Yeasayer decided to do something awesome for the big unveil of their Fragrant World . The Owl Mag catches up with Anand Wilder of Yeasayer while he grills a burger and gets the scoop on the group's upcoming release, Fragrant World.
America’s East Coast hasn’t had the greatest luck with multi-day music festivals. Remember Vineland? All Points West? Sure, upstate New York plays hosts to plenty of jam-band and electronica festivals, and NYC has CMJ and Governors Ball-type events, but none of those are really in the same league as, say, Coachella or Bonnaroo. Companies that try to build the next “destination festival” northeast of the Virginias always seem to struggle, so for Red Frog Events to call Firefly Music Festival “the East Coast’s premiere music experience” even before its Delaware gates opened for the inaugural outing showed either [...]

I'll only say this as an intro: It's about damn time the East Coast had a great music festival. The long journey from parking lot to festival grounds made me feel like I was on a long march to some unknown and exciting place. I felt like a sheep in the herd, and from an aerial view, that's what we would have looked like. The crowd surrounding me was a mix of hippies, bros, patriotic bros, hula hoopers, bros' girlfriends, chubby frat guys, and hipsters. We were heading somewhere. Somewhere not quite real, but not quite imaginary. What [...]

Yeasayer is the hot word around Firefly this morning! With Passion Pit's unexpected resignation, the people working hard behind the Firefly Festival acted swiftly to fill the hole and pulled a rabbit it out of the hat. Yeasayer is no ordinary rabbit though. The Brooklyn-based group earned the accolade, Most Blogged Artist in the 2010 year-end report from HypeM and are set to release their third, highly-anticipated album on August 20th of this year. Enjoy their biggest hit to date, "O.N.E." below. GROUPLOVE formed in 2010, released [...]

Brooklyn's Yeasayer are bringing out a new album next month. I've been jamming on their latest release from Fragrant World , "Longevity", almost as much as the rest of the world has been jamming on the new The xx. It sounds so good - the beat just brings out all those Arrested Development chicken-style dance moves straight out of you. The chorus is simple, yet to the point. It's something any young person can relate to: Live in the moment//never count on longevity The strings accompanying this track are what [...]

Strip this song back from hype and buzz, and I simply adore it. A slick, funky electro pop tune that leaves me buzzing and dying to know what's next from the third album from Yeasayer. A delight to my ears and a lovely accompaniment to the summer, it is out on 20th August. If you're Latitude Festival bound in July get your bums down to see them. 19 June: Richmond, VA at National 20 June: Asheville, NC at Orange Peel 21 June: Knoxville, TN at Bijou Theater 22 June: Nashville, TN at Cannery [...]

Last month we brought you 'Henrietta', the ruturn of Brooklyn three-piece Yeasayer, who are following up their brilliant 2010 album Odd Blood with this year's Fragrant World . We said of 'Henrietta': "It’s a pretty icy pop song, cold slabs of synth and chilled melodies sit alongside beats. It’s very good to have them back..." Well now we have more! 'Longevity' continues the group's near perfect record for crafting wonderfully wonky RnB. There is something incredibly removed about it all, not necessarily a bad thing when you're dealing with robo [...]
Now, I'm one of those kids who grew up in the Reagan 'Just Say No' generation. So something that promotes drug use isn't my thing. Take for example this weird new video from Yeasayer for 'Henrietta', with a YouTube description that it's 'vignette to take drugs to created by Yoshi Sodeoka. What? Take a trip - however you fancy - with the video below. Click here to view the embedded video.

"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men." -Willy Wonka Best Coast - "The Only Place" If living in California actually is anything like what Best Coast make it out to be in their latest video, I might start believing Bethany Cosentino when she sings, "Why would you live anywhere else?" Dirty Projectors – “Gun Has No Trigger” Is that you Dave Longstreth? It's hard to tell due to the fact that the Dirty Projectors spend almost the entire video in [...]

There is nothing like discovering that perfect sound of summer, and we are pretty convinced it sounds like St. Lucia.
