With huge new albums dropping this week from Killer Mike, Tenacious D, Beach House, Best Coast, and more, it seems a little blasphemous to be looking ahead to the next crop of discs. That said, the mp3s we have for you this week are good enough to take up a solid portion of your listening time. Between a peek into a video game soundtrack from HEALTH, the return of sludge metal heroes Baroness, and a NEW TRACK from indie-psychers Yeasayer, this ten-pack should whet your appetite for another crop of stellar album releases sprouting up in the near future. [...]

The band's name has become an odd bit of wordplay recently as fans of Yeasayer have been saying "yea" quite a bit for the last 24 hours. Why? Because Yeasayer has finally given us something new to sink our teeth into. Am I crazy about it? No. Is it along the same line as previous Yeasayer material? For the most part yes... and for that reason it is good (most certainly not bad), but it is a little less hopeful than Odd Blood and a smidgen funkier. Listen to that bass line, it's gotta [...]

Yeasayer's 2010 album, Odd Blood , was a sensation. Such a sensation in fact that we named it the 5th best album of the year . We have no idea whether this will be on the forthcoming album. We don't even have any official word that there is a forthcoming album. All we know is that 'Henrietta' was recently shipped to those on the bands' mailing list. It's a pretty icy pop song, cold slabs of synth and chilled melodies sit alongside beats. It's very good to have them back.

"I too lived - Brooklyn, of ample hills, was mine." - Walt Whitman, "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" By this point, it's an old story that Manhattan has lost much of its cultural capital to its neighbor across the East River. Nowadays, if you want cutting edge art, if you want to find clusters of musicians meeting at bars and coffee shops to talk shop, if you want to find the venues and neighborhoods that foster a multi-colored collaboration between the arts and across genres, cultures, ethnicities, and classes, you go to Brooklyn. Thirty years ago, you could say the [...]
We're really excited to bring you the newest single from Columbus native and Yeasayer multi-instrumentalist Ahmed Sallab, aka Sinkane. "Runnin'" is fueled by funky electric guitar heavy on the wah-wah, and some fresh-t0-death drumming as well. I've gotta say, I was immediately reminded of the song "Fly Like An Eagle" when I first heard the [...]
The latest single from experimental pop duo Tanlines previews the upbeat sound of their upcoming album.

Memory Tapes (AKA Dayve Hawk) has been growing quickly on us since we featured " Wait In The Dark " in our Weekend Burn about a month ago (see our Weekend Burn archive here ). Since this time, we've realized how remixable Hawk's music was and to no surprise, did we find not only Memory Tapes remixed by multiple well-known DJs, but that our boy Dayve did quite a few himself. In the list below, you'll notice yet another Phoenix remix. If you're interested in more of these, we just put our [...]
Strange Talk is yet another fine national treasure of ours to grace your shores.

Photography by me ... Last week, one of our own got hit by a car while riding his bike to a concert, Dyson of dyson sound and this humble little collective. As you know, I ride my bike, let's just say, a lot. It can be nutsos out there, bad drivers, bad cyclists, bad roads, and lots of really bad people. I don't know all the circumstances of Matt's accident, but we here at the paper crane collective wish him nothing but best wishes and get wells and hugs and [...]
Regular readers know this by now: the aim of Obscure Sound is to expose quality artists that, for whatever reason, have yet to achieve substantial recognition despite their excellent material and prevalent talent. I like to believe the music blogosphere has a profoundly positive effect on a music industry currently plagued by a money-first ideology [...]
![PART 6 – Maybe Gucci Mane Was Right… [Bike for a Cure – California Cornbread’s Ride Across the Country]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3291224_lg.jpg)
I always feel strange starting any sentence by saying, " As the wise Atlanta street prophet Gucci Mane once said... ", because he has an ice cream cone tattooed on his face. Of course, I have the New Kids On The Block logo tattooed on my chest, so maybe I don't have a place to speak here. Anyway, I digress... Valentines Day turned out to be a big day for music didn't it? Not only did every dj under the sun release some form of Love-related mixtape, but Yeasayer released their new music video for I Remember and offered up the accompanying EP for free. The EP features the album version, a remix by Painted Palms and Villa's dreary and romantic version. Grab it free with the video widget. I Remember (VILLA remix) - Yeasayer
To read the list from the top (#25), click here. I've spent a huge amount of time reviewing 2010 - and with this post I firmly ground myself into 2011 and pledge to get back in to the swing of new releases. Forward thinking from now on. I wanted to put 2010 to bed with a decent post however, so for those of you who have been following my lists as they (slowly) unfold, this is the big finale - my top ten favourite albums of 2010, hope you enjoyed listening to them as [...]
We're nostalgic already. Remember Kanye's album? That was dope. Seriously though, we had a great year and we hope you did too. Here's a little something we put together to put all our love for 2010 in one place. The list was made by averaging Matt, Steve, and Ethan's 25 favorite albums of 2010 (Arnold's opinion, though very highly regarded, was not included because he doesn't like to confine music to lists...or he just didn't make one). Click on the artist to see what we've had to say about them previously, and click the album art on [...]

So. It's that time where we decide to rank our children and tell which ones are our favorites. It can't be good for their selfestime but damnit, it makes us feel good. 10. The Tallest Man On Earth - The Wild Hunt The sophomore release from this amazing UK songwriter won my heart over and made me cry just a little. "Tallest Man On Earth - King Of Spain" 9. Avi Buffalo - [...]

As the endless round-up of year-end lists continues to grow, we turn from the critics to the artists who helped shape the sound of 2010. As a special holiday treat to you, we’ve picked a special class of singers, musicians and groups — artists we consider among the most creative emerging stars in pop — to participate in our special year-end feature, exclusively sharing with us their reflections on the albums, songs and performers that made their year really… pop . And in many cases, their answers were surprising. So far we've asked [...]

Another year rolls around and there is nothing better than thinking back over the year and perusing the greatest albums. It's always a hard choice, as the albums that get released during the year contain a plethora of hits. I've managed to narrow down my top ten songs for the year, and in doing so casted these songs as my vote for the Triple J Hottest 100! Here they are... 1. LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean 2. Arcarde Fire - We Used To Wait [...]
